Hey, I looked at page one, did a "search" and couldn't find this (it it exists, apologies and please delete). Two notable quotes: ""I know this sounds crazy, but I'm getting older," Allen said, via the team's website. "It's like I can't continue to do this. I know when I'm using my youth I feel like I can, but over the course of my career, I'm going to have to learn to adapt and change." "At the end of the day, it's just being smart with the football, smart with the body, and understanding situational football really better," Allen said. "If there's a third down where we got to get it, I'm going to do whatever it takes to get it. But if it's a second and 10, I got 9 yards to go, no need to put the shoulder down and try it. We can get it on third and 1 with our players and trusting the guys around me. And if not, so be it, we'll put Von Miller back on the field and let him go to work too." https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/bills-josh-allen-says-he-needs-to-make-changes-to-his-game-i-cant-continue-to-do-this/

Have no idea about this kid but running a 4.49 40 at 282 lb. is freaking impressive.

It seems like Downs and Flowers are both explosive smaller receivers. But as Flowers has the really short arms. I caught the tail end of a convo between Chris Brown and some PFF guy (I think) who said that no one in the NFL has ever had a 1000-yard season with a wingspan as small as Flowers. That was concerning, hoping that a guy can buck a trend that goes back to the beginning of these measurements. I've read that Downs is very good in traffic so that seems to be a plus for him (and versus Flowers). Downs sounds like he gives you a lot of what Flowers does, without that concern, and is likely to go later. Is there any reason to strongly consider Flowers over Downs given his very short arms?

What would make you want the Bills to Get Out of Round 1?
Nephilim17 replied to Wizard's topic in The Stadium Wall
A player who makes the offense better in 2023. Ah, misread the title. That's what I want. If no offensive player is left who can make the offense better this year, then I'll take a high two and a high three to get out of the first. -
I would have though after his last performance vs. the Pats that he would have bought some goodwill from everyone. I guess I was wrong. Not saying he's the second coming of Bo Jackson, but I think Hines will be a decent change backup this season. And I bet he'll have a few long runs too.

Edge rushers still available in free agency
Nephilim17 replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Playing for 5 different teams since 2019 will make you look old. But regardless of age, that's a huge issue that no one wants him for more than a year. -
Yikes. That's a huge disparity. I'm sure someone will say that we mostly throw to Davis deeper and that explains it but I don't think that's everything. You need your number two to put up better numbers than that.
-
I absolutely agree. Just don't use a 1st on a slot guy. It's nuts that we have Diggs turning 30 this year and no one being groomed to replace him. Maybe Davis was hoped to be that guy, but with a QB like Allen we should be taking a shot every year at a potentially starting outside receiver and hopefully a guy with good traits. I think most people are in agreement we can take a slot guy but not in the first. I think.

Where TF is "The Pill"?

Interesting angle. But Shakir could be that guy and had pretty good scouting reports last year. So do we double down and draft someone just for the sake of slot competition with Shakir? Or did the staff suddenly lose faith in him after seeing him every day for a year. I won't be against drafting a slot guy but I hope it's not with the first. Shore up the O-line and draft a slot guy in the third or fourth.

This can only be because they're not sure of Harris' availability. I hope Harris stays healthy for most of the year as I like him a lot.

Will DeAndre Hopkins be available this offseason?
Nephilim17 replied to NeverOutNick's topic in The Stadium Wall
In this case we could use the 3rd overall to draft a pass rusher to replace Rousseau and that would mean that Hopkins only costs us two firsts and two seconds! Or we could just wait for the Cards to cut him. -
Does anyone recall McDermott or Beane being asked what the ideal role would be for Bernard? I think a fan base having to speculate on what role a third-round pick could fulfill, if he progresses the way management hopes. If so, someone please share. If not, it's kinda nuts that some significant draft capital was spent and the fan base/journalists don't know exactly why. it's not like this should be pentagon secrets. A decent journalist should ask flat out, "if Bernard becomes the player you hope he will be, will he one day start and in what position?"

From WR7 to WR1 to one of the best in the NFL

Probably not. Sorry, posted the Bernard comment in wrong thread. Will delete in this one and move... -
Dumb move if he thinks Huntley can help the Ravens be a contender.

Cover 1 Just put out a new Mock Draft, Edge round 1.
Nephilim17 replied to PrimeTime101's topic in The Stadium Wall
Guys, I don't think most people commenting here understand what the Cover 1 mock draft was about... It was dealing with a random computer-generated mock and they had to pick from the remaining players that the computer left them each round. The three guys said several times that the generation was NOT kind to them in the first two rounds. And a no-trade rule. This is NOT who they advocate the Bills should pick; it was just a fun exercise of playing with some draft generator and justifying who the Bills should take based on where the board happened to fall. The Cover 1 guy said he wanted WR, O-line or MLB first round. But none of the players the guys liked at those positions happened to be left at 27. They also acknowledged that Beane wound not wait if a guy he really like was a few spots away; Beane would swing a trade. Relax. They're not saying pick edge with 27th overall. -
Good perspective on how good we were last year
Nephilim17 replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
We were a top-5 team last year but unless we're fully healthy — with Von, Hyde and Poyer — winning a championship is going to be very tough. Top 5 beats where we were for almost two decades but it ain't good enough without good health and good luck. Maybe new talent this year, and good health, will change that. -
A player with elite size/speed who is a hard worker is a great combo. I'd be ok with giving up a third to get that if Beane thinks he can succeed at the next level. Even if it takes him a couple years to really hit his potential (I'm not saying he doesn't contribute in the first couple years though), by then we can let Steff go and free up a lot of cap space.

Draft Prospect Interviews with Bills - Post 'em here
Nephilim17 replied to Yantha's topic in The Stadium Wall
I've read here many times by knowledgeable posters that Torrence is not a fit for our O-line scheme. So what's happening? 1) The fans' scouting is off. 2) The Bills pros' scouting is off. 3) The Bills know he's not a natural fit but want to take him and make him work in our scheme all the same (they have a history, like with AJ and Basham of trying to change early-round picks). 4) The Bills want to change their O-line scheme. 5) It's a red herring to throw off our true drafting intentions. I'm curious what those with more expertise think as this seems like a disconnect. -
Bryce Ford-Wheaton is 221 lb. Holy cow. That size/speed/weight combo is enticing. If he's a 4th round project(ion), considering the Bills pick at the bottom of each round, is it reasonable to spend a third on him?

Buffalo News article (may be behind paywall) where McVay has some nice things to say about Edwards: https://buffalonews.com/sports/bills/new-bills-offensive-lineman-david-edwards-was-critical-factor-for-rams-coach-sean-mcvay-said/article_96141a2c-ce83-11ed-b1eb-8bce2010a129.html A couple highlights: “Aaron Kromer was instrumental in his development,” McVay said. “And so, I know he's really excited to be able to get him back with him.” “He's been a critical factor at the left guard spot for us for a long period of time,” McVay said. “(The Bills are) getting a great player, great person, great athleticism, for the size that he plays with, on the inside.”

Name 2 players the Buffalo Bills will select in the 2023 NFL Draft
Nephilim17 replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall
First of all, I must say that this tradition is quite the phenomenon: "The 21st annual Name 2 players Brandon Beane will select in the 2023 NFL Draft" The fact that this board had been predicting who Beane will select in the 2023 draft for 21 years is astounding — most players weren't even born when the tradition started. And Beane was probably just emptying trash bins in some locker room, a long way from running the Bills. Here are my entries: 1. Darnell Wright 2. Johathan Mingo
