People who know way more than I do about O-linemen here say that Cyrus is not a scheme fit. If true and we wasted as second round pick, I'd say a C-. If Cyrus is a good fit and player B+ as I love the Kincaid pick but not confident about the the LB pick.

Analyzing 10 years of first round TE production
Nephilim17 replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't think it's logical to just look at first-round TE stats. A new first-round TE is more likely replicate the production of a third or fifth-round guy, than the other way around. If we drafted a TE in the fifth, no one would look at 1st-round TE production but logic does work the other way. For historically great TE production in a rookie season see here: https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/most-receiving-yards-by-a-rookie-tight-end-in-a-season Since 2010, there have been 8 TEs with at least 500 yards in their rookie season. However, 6 of those had fewer than 600 yards with one having 722 (Engram) and one with 1,026 (Pitts). Kincaid is more than capable of joining that plus-500-yards list. -
Big boy, 6' 4" 229 lb.... Good for shorter contested stuff in zone: Shorter has shown to consistently win 50/50 jump-ball situations. Shorter is a smooth runner that, against zone with free releases, gets downfield and makes himself available for the quarterback by finding a hole in the defense. On short-to-intermediate routes, Shorter wins by using his body to shield defenders away from the ball and being able to make the catch. Shorter has a large catch radius so the quarterback simply has to put the ball in an area and there is a chance for Shorter to make the catch. https://thedraftnetwork.com/sr-prospect/justin-shorter-3c2b7acd-77bc-4c00-8d13-64ef196a4613/

Analyzing 10 years of first round TE production
Nephilim17 replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall
1. He's got Allen throwing to him. 2. We really need a short chain-moving option Kincaid is now it. 3. I would be shocked he Kincaid doesn't get at least 500 yards. And I would not be shocked if he hits 800. -
Ok, never heard of him but 4.40 40 and "good instincts" sounds good. The announcers said "instincts" and "instinctive" so, despite the hair, he may not be a smaller version of Edmunds.

Many think he has what it takes to be an elite receiving tight end. That's a win even if he's not as good as one of the top TEs of all time. But you have to remember, drafting at OT or guard at 27 can still bust too, or just result in a decent but nothing special player. When smart people like Daniel J. of the NFL network, PFF (yes, I we like them again ) and Chris Simms say he's top-10 or top-15 talent, we should be happy and give Beane the benefit of any doubts we amateurs have. IMHO.

For the love of Bruce Smith, let's not say the same thing 10 times in this thread. Especially if it's griping. Make your point/criticism and move on. To quote David Byrne, "Say something once, why say it again?"

Daniel Jeremiah’s No. 9 overall player in draft Ahead of Buffalo’s pick being announced, NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah gave the league a warning. “If this league allows Dalton Kincaid to go play with Josh Allen it’s probably going to get what it deserves.” https://www.newyorkupstate.com/buffalo-bills/2023/04/who-is-dalton-kincaid-buffalo-bills-got-a-guy-in-the-travis-kelce-mold-5-things-to-know.html After years of reaching for a top pick, it finally looks like we got a steal. I'm so stoked. For all the people saying we don't need this and Josh needs a deep threat, remember how well Josh played with a still-good Beasley. This will help Josh make fewer WTF hero ball plays and move the chains more and be a terror to opposing Ds n the red zone.

Me too. I have an autistic kid so that made me smile. I NEVER want to draft a good guy who is not a good player but Dalton really seems like both.
-
Saw some tape of him now and I had a poop-eating grin the whole time. Too big for CBs, too savvy and quick for LBs. We got a first-down machine who will not drop the ball. Love it .

I think if someone said the first WR goes at 20 most would have taken that...

Don't dismiss it; Tannehill's Corpse was among Washington Irving's finest works.

All Gunner's Draft Stuff.... 2023 Edition!!!
Nephilim17 replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Thanks Gunner. 2 questions: I'm assuming watching a minimum of 3 games per player (and up to 7 or 8, I believe you said elsewhere) is a minimum of 1 hour (accounting for plays only as I assume you can fast-forward through non-play time) per player and probably closer to 1.5 hours on average. If so, that could be minimum of 136 hours and maybe closer to 200 hours of work. Is this range close? Where the heck do you find the time? Second, if you were Gm, what would be your six picks (say no trade) for the Bills, based on where you expect everyone to go? Cheers. -
Will DeAndre Hopkins be available this offseason?

If we can find room for his contract, I'm very good with that as trading down requires a partner and we may not find one to do so. -
McBean’s draft history and who we draft at 27
Nephilim17 replied to LEBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm not a college fan but looking at Hyatt's highlights I thought for sure he'd be sub-4.40. Was shocked to see the second number of his run was not a 3. Was the competition in the highlights just that slow or what? He looked so fast on the field. -
McBean’s draft history and who we draft at 27
Nephilim17 replied to LEBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Interesting observations, OP. Thanks. That said, the 21 and under thing, that may be more of a fluke than a criterion of Beane's. I don't see the logic in drafting someone 21 over 22 or even 23 as a 22-year-old after a five year contract is 26 at the end of his first 5-year contract and a new 4-year deal still only makes him 30 at the end of a second 4-year deal. Or 31 at the end of a second 4-year deal for a guy who is 23. Trying to draft based on who you're gonna give a third contract to based on age is nuts, IMHO. If you get a player to stick around for 9 years that should be a win. Who cares if he's 30, 31 or 32 after that. -
Players you Absolutely Want the Bills to Draft
Nephilim17 replied to Warriorspikes51's topic in The Stadium Wall
Isn't the slot guy in our offense the number three guy? Also, IF Mingo pans out, his speed, weight combo suggests he can be dominant, or at least a number 2 — to me. I think Gabe being a number 3 is more a result of Gabe's production than it is of his ideal role. -

I'm not a college fan and no scouting expert but Cosell likes Mingo so I watched some tape. I see a big guy (220 lb.) with better than average speed who can make contested catches and who bullies cornerbacks, either knocking them over or dragging them many yards after the catch. I'd be very happy with this guy in round 2. -
"Change his style of play" as you call it is not exactly the same as "make changes" to his game — and these are Josh's words, not a fan, or a journalist. He can run like a, well, buffalo, and knock over a linebacker if the situation warrants it — say, third and one and the game is undecided in the fourth quarter. But as Josh puts it, there's no need to expose his body to a big hit on second down if he can pick up nine yards and leave a yard for third down. Besides that, and Josh speaks to this too, he needs to be smarter with ball security in terms of not making those low-percentage throws when it's not needed. I think most fans and Josh himself will agree he made too many bad decisions in 2022. We have a great QB but he's not perfect. In fact, Josh knowing he can improve is part of his greatness.

Is Shady's comment about Jim losing 4 straight a low blow? Normally, I'd say yes. But Jim said this about Shady: “I like LeSean McCoy, don’t get me wrong, but I totally, 100% I disagree with what he did,” Kelly said. “You want to kneel? Fine. But when you go and do what he did yesterday, that sort of bummed me out. And I lost a lot of respect for him. … You want to kneel? That’s your prerogative. I would never do that. I will always stand, thank the good Lord for everything I got. But when you disrespect the way he did and just go by his everyday duty in the national anthem being sung? Uh-uh. I won’t go for that.” I think any player who kneels like that and is called out by a team's alum will no longer regard that past star with reverence and respect. My $.02. I know 95% are taking Jim's side here.

Will DeAndre Hopkins be available this offseason?
Nephilim17 replied to NeverOutNick's topic in The Stadium Wall
"Word on the street" is not inside intel. Just alluding to the rumors that have been circulating. Is he hopeful for an acquisition? Yes. Does he have an inside track that the Bills will get Hopskins? He knows they've looked into it but I doubt he knows the details of the conversations and what it would take. Maybe I'm wrong and Beane shares all this with him as a senior star player (and an guy who wants to be a GM one day) but I doubt it.
