AstroNotes 1 – Bills Training Camp July 26
Nephilim17 replied to Rock'em Sock'em's topic in The Stadium Wall
"...you see first-hand just how fast and quick Deonte Harty is. The first play, a jet sweep right, is faster than McKenzie ran it, and it’s a TD." Love it. -
Don't have time right now to watch the 20-minute press conference. Sal's snippets sound very encouraging, especially as Stef was totally "transparent." Can anyone here offer a quick thought on whether this is truly closure and that we can feel like Stef is happy to be a Bill and play with Josh? I think the answer is yes, but I'd like to hear someone here who watched the whole thing say it. Cheers.

OP, please use a more descriptive title next time as this is totally ambiguous: Is Cook released from a holding cell, prison, his former team...?

Training Camp opens today! 2023 Season is upon us!

Two comments and maybe it's the Four Roses bourbon talking... 1. Why does the sign to St. John's Fisher look like a tombstone? Curious decision. 2. What is the guy doing to the ball in the video? Scrubbing it? Tackifying it (likely not but I have no clue what else he could be doing)? This feels like a special year for the Bills. -
Playoffs, 4th and 8, game is on the line (personel hypothetical).

First, the situation is 4th and 8. Fairly short yardage where route running, size, hands and quickness mean more than straight-line speed. Second, Kincaid is more of a big slot WR than a TE, so that's not typical 12 personnel. Diggs is a given. I maintain Kincaid is the second-best pass catcher in this down and distance. Do you feel there are two receivers on this team better than Knox for fourth and 8? If you said Sherfield and Harty, I might listen. I simply don't trust Davis' route running that tight or his hands. If it were fourth and 20, maybe. Third, Allen is threat to run with 8 yards to go and big bodies will be better blockers. Like Knox. I'm not tied to Knox but I am staunch in my belief that Kincaid is one of the two or three best wide receivers on this team for that down and distance. You will see. -

Diggs, Kincaid, Knox, and Sherfield (physicality, best blocking WR according to PFF I read, and good hands). Fifth guy could be Harris for blocking (if he has hands too) or maybe Harty for his quickness. -
If insurance covers his salary and the Bills clear cap space, it's a win-win (or the best of a bad situation). On a bigger note, I now fear that torn ACL for running back in his late 20s may be tough to come back from. EDIT: He turns 27 this fall. I thought he was a bit older. I hope he can bounce back and get another 2-year contract or something next year.

Do most contracts remain valid for non-football injuries? My total guess would be many are not if it involves activities outside of day-to-day living. I would hope that if a player gets injured outside of football and if the activity was not a "normal" activity and had any element of risk the team would not be paying the salary — then it should be a case for insurance and/or a lawsuit. Don't get me wrong: I think HInes should make his money this year; I just don't want it to count against the Bills cap. And I do wish the guy a full and speedy recover and hope he can get another decent NFL contract before he retires.

For those still upset we didn’t trade up for Jordan Addison…
Nephilim17 replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall
Once I got onboard the Kincaid train I was hoping during the draft we didn't trade up... We knew he was small; now we know he's stupid. Hard pass for a first rounder. -
Good, but it's not strange: Hyde is back; White should be fully healed (or as good as he's going to get); Miller will be playing most of the season; we have bruising running backs for short yardage; we have an improved O-line; we have a phenomenal short to intermediate threat in Kincaid; McD will call a more aggressive D; we have WR upgrades over McKenzie; Josh should be healed and should be playing smarter this year; we have a new 10-sack lineman in his prime. There's lots to love about this year's team. I'm willing to make a bet with anyone who foolishly claims we won't win at least 11 games. I think 12 is far more likely and possibly 13.
-
I may be drunk and/or foolish, but I'm honestly expecting Kincaid to be the best offensive player the Bills have drafted (not including Allen) for a long, long time — since maybe Moulds. If I'm wrong, I have 25 years of living with disappointment as a Bills fan to guide me through the ensuing reality check.

Good Breakdown on Bills, KC, and Cinci moving forward
Nephilim17 replied to newcam2012's topic in The Stadium Wall
After 2 seasons (starting the 2025 season) Tre, Steph and Von will likely be gone. How much dead cap will we have then? If not a lot, we'll be ok to reload. We do need to draft a quality young WR but if Kincaid turns out, he may save a chunk as our top pass catcher (see Kelce's contract). Greg might fill Von's shoes, Kaiir hopefully turns into CB 1 material. Draft a good wide receiver and maybe a center and we should be all right... -
Good interview. Dion is a fun guy. Good to hear him praise Buffalo's fans the way he does. Not sure what Cowherd means when he insists that a team with a running QB who goes off script (like Josh can do) has a harder time establishing a run game with the backs — is he suggesting that the linemen are less focused on written-up plays? Not sure I agree.

Kudos to Dalton. I hope Boogie has a good reason for not attending Von's summit.

Crazy take. Josh is going to golf tournaments in the off-season so he's "partying too much." Josh bought a beach house so he's somehow lost his competitive edge. Josh is dating a female actor so he's unfocused and should be traded. How many times did we hear about Josh getting in trouble with the law? Making an ass of himself drunk or high? Saying controversial statements about the direction of this team? Go back to your blessed 1940s.

This is a very enlightened perspective, chongli. And I mean that with no trace of sarcasm. The issue, for me, and I suspect many others, is compassion fatigue. I have to worry about all the suffering, crime, and needless wars in the world, plus a family issue that wears me out constantly and will for years, and at the end of it I have zero sympathy or care left for people like OJ. And the baser part of me will say good riddance when he dies. Or, if he suffers first, think that maybe sometimes karma actually happens (in truth, I don't believe in karma and think it's all random)... If I have any shred of compassion and care left in me, it will go to the victims' families all these years later before it goes to OJ. And my $.02 on the question of putting his name on the wall of the new stadium: Yes, it's meant to honor great players. But on rare occasions, greater issues in life — and greater values than respecting the highest level of sports accomplishments — should trump playing on the field, no matter how great. Respect for human life, and the disavowing of those who do not hold that respect, trumps a legendary career as a Bill.

I really appreciated watching this. But the best part was cut off at the very end... Emmanuel Acho, a former linebacker, said on the D (and Shady agreed this applies on offense too) you NEVER publicly sell out your teammate for a mistake. "Don't ever under any circumstance sell your teammate out publicly." And Diggs doing the hands out on the sideline of the CIncy game was that. Acho said "immature" or "uncalculated" people do this. The video literally ends with Acho calling up the CIncy clip as an example of this... But the conversation doesn't get finished. 😕 I agree. Diggs may have a legit point but he was immature and wrong in his handling of it. My $.02. Good to see former players, Acho and Shady agree on this point.

That's nuttier than Tua learning how to fall. I had a subscription on a deal but didn't renew. The Buff News writers just take press conferences and repackage them with some editorial rehash of what the players and coaches say. No real insight and analysis beyond the cursory kind you get from most of this board. And no deep interviews. I much prefer the Cover 1 videos that really break down the Xs and Os of the Bills (when those boys graduate from high school, look out!). Or longer interviews like Josh with McAfee and his boys. All free.

Thad Brown the first to be offended by Josh
Nephilim17 replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
All much ado about nothing. The media should report on things when a coach is "very concerned." The leader of our offense should not look frazzled about any media reports and just do his job on the field. -
Allen stats compared to Peyton Manning 👀
Nephilim17 replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Comparing different eras with stats is almost futile. What I am encouraged by, however, is that Manning went from throwing a lot of turnovers to becoming one of the most cerebral QBs in the game. I'm not saying Josh will become Peyton, but I have hope his football IQ and decision making can still improve substantially over the next couple of years.
