Will DeAndre Hopkins be available this offseason?
Nephilim17 replied to NeverOutNick's topic in The Stadium Wall
Exactly. And even if we get Hopkins, I still want to draft a high-ceiling WR for the future as we can't have our two best receivers on the wrong side of 30 with no one in the pipeline. Always be developing WRs... -

One more question please: If a free agent is signed but then cut before the season starts or early in the season, does that factor in?
-
Well, does this sink the 3rd-round comp pick next year? 😕

What would you trade for Jerry Jeudy?
Nephilim17 replied to RocCityRoller's topic in The Stadium Wall
yup. If we had a ton of cap room the next two years, I'd be more open to it. The only way this is good cap-wise is if we let go of Steph after a couple years and backload Jeudy's contract — and he plays up to the contract's value. Otherwise, take the cheap labor through picks. We are in bad cap shape. And before anyone can tell me — but the cap is going up every year! — yeah, that means competition in better cap shape can buy more on the free agent market than we can. -
To be clear, trades don't factor into this right?

So is this the gist of the pay-wall hidden rest of the article, that the Bills need to protect Allen? That's the philosophical change Dunne alludes to early on in the free part of the article? Thanks for the info.

Should we trade Ed Oliver?
Nephilim17 replied to Floridagatorsbuffalobills's topic in The Stadium Wall
If there's no dead cap with cutting him, can we release him but then resign him (if no other team signs him) at a lower salary? Given no one's likely to trade for him, that seems like a decent solution. EDIT: my bad: didn't realize if we cut him we eat the salary as dead cap. I assumed since it wasn't signing bonus that wasn't the case. -
Yikes. every position in the third round is 40% or well below for success. In my head I would have thought the numbers would be better for that round. And it looks like the Chiefs beat math (0% success rate for drafting backs in the 7th round) with Pacheco. My advice to Beane: give the scout(s) who said draft Milano and Teller a raise (or rehire them); give the scouts who said draft Epenesa and Basham brooms.

One would probably pick up some horrible, horrible social skills, but, yes, one would know football techniques and assignments.

I'm no expert on Harris but if he blocks like he runs, I believe it.

Bills hosting/hosted David Edwards on visit
Nephilim17 replied to gonzo1105's topic in The Stadium Wall
Nah, I didn't got to PFFF; just found that in an article when I Googled him. I'm not saying he stinks (not saying he doesn't) but that was a bad year. Maybe injuries played a role. -

If he was playing hurt and looked good in prior seasons, ok. But if those stats are not a reflection of playing hurt, that's pretty odious. -

Yeah, I know. So I said this year or the next. We can't pay for Josh, Steph and Jerry Jeudy or some other WR $20 million a year going forward. Maybe squeeze it in on a front-loaded deal but we'll be in trouble later and like it or not, Beane claims we need to compete every year. Perhaps some this year are "all in" and the future be damned. I'm not one of them.
-
We need a potential number 1 receiver to be drafted this year or next. Our books are very, very tight cap-wise the next couple years and we need cost-effective labor. 90% of the people here just want to sign some star free agent but you can't keep doing that pay Josh and Steph and Von and others without the young talent coming up through the draft. We're going to turn into the Rams — possibly without a championship — if all we do is sign or trade for high-cost vets.

Some penicillin should clear it up quickly.

Lots of comments about Harris just being as short-yardage or goal-line back. I don't think so. You're gonna see him rumble in the open fields for a lot more than a yard or two here and there.
-
This might be the closet to a "bowling ball with knives" runner we've had since Henry. Minus the train of women with babies and lawyers in tow.
-
I certainly don't trust him/his staff to evaluate pass rushers or running backs. When you draft a back in the 3rd and let him sign with a crap team for $3.75 million (I bet the Bills could've resigned for less) that says he doesn't hold much value. So a third-round pick you don't wanna resign for $3.5 million. Add in Moss for a third and that's pretty bad management of draft capital.
-
So if we're on track for a third-round comp pick, does that mean Beane's good again? Devin ran hard and played well enough but to let him go for this money (I'm sure he'd take less from the Bills) really speaks volumes about how they didn't want him back.
-
Good weight on him to go with better than average speed. Good blocker and young, I like it. Not saying he's our number 3 guy, but we need depth and you never know.
-
If we get him, I hope it goes well, but this thread could turn out to be one page for every 5 yards he gets with us... (800 yards / 150 pages). Quite the investment for not a spectacular return, in terms of fan capital. Again, I hope I'm wrong and if we get him he tops 1000 yards. But at his age and with his history, I'm not sure.

How dare he say we have a top-3 QB in the league! How dare he say that a three-time MVP and Super Bowl champion is better than Josh! Yes, Rodgers, is past his prime but Beasley is a) looking for a job and b) most likely talking about the career of Rodgers, not his current ability (see a) for a reason why he would do this).
