  1. Yeah. There are still going to be plenty of tough games. What we are not seeing, that many outside Buffalo expected, is an offense that in ineffective and boring without an alpha receiver like Diggs. What we're seeing is an offense that can do lots of different things and looks every bit as explosive as it did with Diggs at his best. Maybe we're being fooled, but I think those who predict a step backwards for the Bills may be eating some crow come December.
  2. Beane is not infallible. If Collins turns out to be a mistake, it's not the first one Beane has made and it won't be the last. He's made enough right ones to make the Bills a multi-year division champion. They haven't made it to the conference championship, but they've given KC all they can handle in the regular season and the playoffs too. I'd rather trust him moving forward to get the Bills over the hump than take a chance on who might replace him.
  3. Buffalo had a UDFA, who ran a 4.63 40, start at CB for several seasons (Levi Wallace). He started 9 games for the Steelers in 2022 and signed with the Broncos in April this year.
  4. I think Brady's intention is to get both players comfortable playing inside or out and then to use their flexibility to create mismatches for the defense to have to deal with. I expect the same with Curtis Samuel, except with Samuel, defenses will also have to cope with him lining up in the backfield too.
  5. I think you only have reason to worry is if one side of the LOS is dominating consistently practice after practice. You have to wonder if the domination is happening because one side is weak.
  6. I think that was a strategic decision made by the Bills back when they traded Diggs and declined to re-sign Davis. With the constraints on the cap, the Bills decided not to try and sign one high priced alpha-dog. They chose instead to bring in a bunch of guys with traits they wanted and instead of trying to manufacture a single alpha-dog, design an offense where the ball will be spread around. If an alpha-dog happens to emerge in that offense, they can adapt, but they want to be able to function effectively without depending on it.
  7. Agreed. Also, remember Mike Edwards missed all of the OTAs and mini-camp recovering from medical issues. I would expect the Bills want him to get some on field work in the Bills system before having to deal with the extra pressure of playing with the top unit.
  8. Bernard and Milano is a great combination if Milano is fully healthy. I love that the team is slowly building quality depth. Williams showed he was a rookie last season at times. The linebacking now has top notch athleticism from starters to third string. I think the depth players are all pretty competitive. Even Andreeson looks like he can play in the league. I feel just about as comfortable about the linebacking as I could possibly feel.
  9. The most memorable game I attended was memorable for all the wrong reasons. Buffalo was playing at home versus the Jets in the early 80s on a Monday night. Buffalo was awful. The fans in the stands lost patience. There were full cups of beer flying through the air all over the stadium leaving spiraling drops of beer in their wake. Fights were breaking out everywhere and the stadium security was overwhelmed. The most memorable game I saw on TV was the comeback with Frank Reich at the helm of an injured Jim Kelly.
  10. He is remaining anonymous, because if Josh Allen were to find out his identity, he will destroy the man's team when the Bills play them.
  11. Special teams ace? Yeah, sure, but the Bills are engaged in an ongoing process to upgrade the roster where they can. Matekevich was OK on defense in spot duty, but because he's limited athletically, the defensive coordinator likely had to compensate for his shortcomings by making adjustments in the defense. If the Bills could replace him with a player who could do similar things on special teams and have the athleticism to be more versatile on defense, then changing Matekevich out was a no brainer. Add to that the fact that he's 31 years old, it's likely that he's in physical decline. If anything, his athletic limitations are likely to become more pronounced over time.
  12. I assume that like most people who come into wealth suddenly, Williams probably hired a financial advisor. Not to do so would be foolish. That would mean any strategy to structure his contract for tax advantages would have been run through the advisor, who would presumably have some tax expertise. I don't blame him for trying. I'm guessing nobody here voluntarily pays more taxes than he/she has to. If anything, I'm guessing he just got some bad advice.
  13. Because evaluating football talent is so very subjective, there is always going to be variation in the opinions of players. Josh Allen is supremely talented. I think everybody knows that. The variation is in the way people might look at his tendency to commit turnovers by playing hero ball when the team is facing a tough challenge. I don't think Allen is ever going to change that aspect of his game. What the Bills will try to do instead is reduce the number of times that Allen will be in situations where the temptation is present to play hero ball.
  14. But Tyreek Hill thinks Lamar Jackson is a top five QB (#3) and Josh Allen isn't. Then again, he thinks Tua is the second best QB in the league and Baker Mayfield rounds out his top five.
  15. I knew he was a wise pick for the Bills.
  16. Diggs in 2021 was great. Diggs in late 2023 not so much. Still, the Bills had an impressive late season run. For that reason, I'm not terribly worried about Diggs' absence. There is plenty of room for some surprise with respect to who steps up in the WR position. Yeah, I think Shakir's catch total is going to go up, maybe up into the range of 90 to 100 receptions, But I wouldn't be at all surprised if Buffalo gets w lot of production from depth receivers.
  17. Well, the Bills have Jack Browning on the roster as competition for Sam Martin. There is a good chance he replaces Martin. He was also a place kicker in college. He didn't have a great percentage kicking FGs in college. He was 15 out of 22 attempts in college, but he does have a big leg, having kicked a 61 yarder, He was still developing. If Bass started the season and it became obvious he was still struggling, he would be a viable option. The problem, of course, would be finding a holder for him since as the punter he would normally be the holder.
  18. I think I'm going to start a thread some day and entitle it, "Misleading Title." I wonder how the mods would react.
  19. If he can revive his career and have a big season, maybe we should see him as Chase, "The Phoenix" Claypool. He will have risen from the ashes and he can fly.
  20. I have to think that choosing UB has a lot to do with his brother being with the Bills. It would be interesting to see what his measurables turn out to be.
  21. Any list of this type is going to be highly subjective. It is interesting that a coach like Mike Tomlin has a lofty ranking mostly based on the Steelers' success prior to 2021. In the last three seasons, the Steelers have finished 2nd, 3rd and 3rd in the AFC North. Tomlin has been a solid coach for a long time, but has not been as successful recently. DeMecco Ryans on the other hand has the #8 spot has been a head coach for one season. Houston won one of the worst divisions in the NFL with a 10-7 record. It's hard to argue with Reid and Shanahan at the top of the list, but after that, lots of changes could be argued, including McDermott being several spots higher.
  22. I'll say Mike Edwards (the safety). I think he's going to have a regular role in the back end of the defense. With "value" free agents, (pretty much all of Buffalo's FA signings) impact is a question of getting opportunities to be on the field. Safety is a position where opportunities might be easier to come by than a lot of positions. Of course, WR is the other position where a free agent, either Samuel or Claypool, will have an opportunity to have a major impact.
  23. There are really a whole bunch of potentially compelling stories. Here are some of them I'm looking at: The potential rebirth of Kaiir Elam Which among the new receivers will show signs of stepping up? Does a healthy Von Miller have anything left in the tank? Does a rookie punter give the Bills the opportunity to boot the high priced veteran? Like every summer, which rookies turn out to be the real deal and which UDFAs make the team and show potential? Is Daquan Jones back to 100% Can the defense figure out how to produce sacks and turnovers at a top ten level in the league or better? Can Bass rediscover his confidence and consistency?
  24. I'll cast a vote for Jerry Butler. His career was cut short by injury, but he had the potential to be an all-time great for Buffalo.
  25. I don't know that Jessica was the teenage prodigy that some tennis players are. She's top five because she has put in the work and has the determination to make herself better. There is much to admire about her.
