❤️Van Miller discusses the history of the Bills
First Round Bust replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
good contrast between RJ and Ted... Ted Darling is my all-time favorite...was a product of Hockey Night In Canada (HNIC) experience before becoming the voice of the Sabres, HNIC announcers past and present are the gold standard; knowledgeable with a pro balance of passion for the game and neutrality, as in minimal homer-ism (for the most part - Leafs games may be the exception).it may be the Canadian personality/DNA, or middle-age maturity that make the games more palatable compared to say NBC games (that gawd that run is over) or other broadcasters other than our Sabres... -
Buffalo's Four Major Sports - Mount Rushmore

depends on your perspective - the true fan goes to games wouldnt you say ? .but there are over 80 hockey games per year compared to 17 football games - so the math based on 100% capacity is 800k versus 560k for sellouts in favor of Sabres...you have to include Ontario as well for hockey which makes up approx 15-20 percent of the Sabres STH base, not sure the Bills match this but there are some no doubt..the fans of the 1960s are dieing off sad to say and I know and remember quite a few including STH...the loyalty, passion and money-spending ebbs and flows with the cycles of winning and loosing...I think the best numbers would be counted during respective championship victory parades in the city of Buffalo...as an ex-pat always on mind for planning purposes...hope to see you there -
Buffalo's Four Major Sports - Mount Rushmore

great topic - thanks - you had me do a look-up on Connie Mack thanks to this...his Buffalo link is that he purchased shares in the players league and lost it all when the league folded...one and done with Buffalo... Baseball - Warren Spahn - best left-handed pitcher in MLB history, served in WWII - Battle of the Bulge....then Joe McCarthy - Yankees manager during the early glory years Basketball - Bob Lanier - the best baller the area has ever produced - followed by either by Bob Mcadoo - the best Brave ever - or Randy Smith - second best Football - Ralph Wilson - I know, I know... but he brought the NFL to our fair city (who else would have ?) and more importantly kept it here when he could have easily sold-out; and his passing allowed the Pegulas to do the same for years and decades to come hopefully..then OJ (then he ducks). Hockey - its a hockey town - so I am going with four for hockey.. (Gil is my boyhood idol) - lets go with the Knox family (see Wilson, Ralph above), the French Connection, the Dominator, and RJ or Ted Darling.... now excuse me whilst I step out for a cigarette (and I dont smoke). -

I am a child and big fan of the 1970s culture, esp sports, in addition to the Bills games...Van did the Braves games pbp and would hustle back to the WBEN studio to do the 11 PM sports broadcast...safe to say the man loved his work and knew his stuff...the quintessential Buffalo sports fan and icon...god bless ya Van and may you rest in peace (and keep watchin your Buffalo sports with us)... As for Ted Darling, the best, even better than RJ, Ted developed doing HNIC and was so smooth and experienced doing games with professionalism and enthusiasm, which I fell asleep to listening on the radio he had the playful perk where when a puck went over the glass into the crowd he would playfully (and falsely) identify where that fan was from (local area including Southern Ontario) which would add color to the dull stoppage in play. I think RJ benefitted from working with Ted and Ted has passed the torch to RJ as he has Ted's respect and enthusiasm ..Ted was not perfect, sad to say he was alcoholic...may he rest in peace...and keep going RJ... -
I dont live in the Bills DMA or any other market that I watch games in but there are no warnings or restrictions for several years now and if illegal should have been shut-down by now right ? considering the hundreds/thousands of viewers across all the major sports and widespread availability in apple and goggle play stores ?

NFL.com Disrespects Bills Offense
First Round Bust replied to elijah's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
devils advocate with the Bills O based on collection of off-season analysis: 1.Given that Josh had dramatic improvement last season the critics are saying no way he can better.. 2. pundits say more likely levels off, due to defenses sticking more attention to Diggs, better defensive film review, rosters and play esp in division, road crowd noise will have some impact compared to last season empty stadiums ? 3. Our O has emphasis on the pass, so OL not built to run the ball - Morse is more mobile and finese, not physical enough to push and run-block bigger DTs effectively, and our guards and RBs are mediocre. 4. Bills to address the details of too many negative run plays and add more diverse and shorter routes (slants) which could use more support from the TE position which is still a question as far as quality and depth...can the Bills work the middle of the field more than last season ? -
WNY Homegrown Talent Who Knew ?

great info, sure Erie, Syracuse and Ont stretch the demographic market area (DMA) somewhat, but by way of comparison, living in suburban Wash DC (NoVA) I did a lookup of the local team and found several representatives from areas over 200+ miles away, included is one Quinton Spain ? former Bill cut who made the list for the Wash Football Team, I guess we are not talking all-star level but alive and breathing in some positions...SMH -

ah teen-age 1970s memories...game was not sold-out and not on TV..so had to listen to it on the radio and thought this guy would be the next OJ..or more realistically a quality running back featured in the ground Chuck (Knox) gameplans...so wha happened...off-field issues I suspect -
so far re-negotiating or re-re-negotiating as is the case with X Howard (says he has out-played contract based on league-leading 10 picks most since 2007) has not been an issue with Bills players (so far)..another nod to the front office and the players (and agents)...

Jerry Hughes, the longest tenured Buffalo Bill
First Round Bust replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
just wondering, given our tight cap, and all the high picks spent on the DL the past two drafts, come next year, would Jerry consider staying for reduced salary and role for a SB contender...as in a backup, vet presence in the locker room, etc...or is he productive enough to still cash in somewhere else for one last payday.... -
one of the game balls from the super bowl run and the playoff comeback win over Houston signed by xxxx... anything signed by one of Bills HOF-ers...Smith, Kelly, Thomas, Joe D, etc replica trophy from the AFL championships of the 1960s cuz thats all we got for being top dog sorry to say...needs updating to say the least I went to the last game at the rockpile (21-21 tie against the Lions) but being a kid did not realize I should have taken something with me from the ole gal...sigh
