Bills switch to man coverage vs Steelers
First Round Bust replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
from todays BN - grades - 3.0 for the secondary - the run D was the best grade 4/0 The Steelers targeted Tre’Davious White four times. He gave up two catches for 32 yards. They targeted Levi Wallace 10 times. He gave up four catches for 25 yards and a TD, plus two penalties for another 31 yards. That’s 56 total yards allowed, not a bad total. But when the Steelers desperately needed to make a play, Wallace is who they attacked. The tackling by the secondary was excellent. Taron Johnson had a key third-down pass breakup vs. JuJu Smith-Schuster and an end-zone breakup vs. Eric Ebron. The Bills stayed in the nickel defense every play of the game. Jordan Poyer had six tackles, including a sack. He was sent to rush the passer four times. Note - Bills played man 58% of the time which was a change - so the CBs were exposed 1:1 more than you may have known-expected -
plus I was surprised that Moss was inactive - so I expected a little not a lot of gameplan involving Breida and his "speed" and we got nothing, actually I will call it a negative from that move Plus Sweeney was active and played 4 downs - none on ST - so the only value to activate him is in case Knox goes down (as if Gilliam cant sub ?) Also if you watched the SNF game- the Rams also played the "light box" like to Pitts, dropping the LBs deeper and daring the Bears to run...is this the new D strategy to deal with the pass-happy offenses ??? esp when you have confidence in your front four ?

2nd Half Defense: What Happened
First Round Bust replied to RyanC883's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I will disagree wit yam mundane morn armchair qb style, cuz when it was crunch time, the D let the Steelers move the ball, get first downs and eat clock and kick some FGs, a championship caliber D will make a stand, hold the line, get the ball back to the O for a chance to win the game, the D did not pick up the O... -
its one only game... and really each team (O, D, ST) and respective coaching has to share blame...sucks when D knows what play you are running at a critical stage (pitch to Breida for loss of what 7 !)...you dont deserve to win when you allow a blocked punt to score...and the D did not rise up and stop Pitts come crunch time to bail out the O... Next...tough road game in heat at Miami - likey do better against man schemes that fish use extensively on D...so lets see some better coaching and effort

same issues as last season - the TE working the middle on seam routes and focus picking on Levi Wallace.... -

hmmm - top selling NFL jersies at this site ? jersies are sold everywhere-elsewhere, so I am bit skeptical of the grand total.... -
TJ Watt signs mega deal with Steelers

happy for him and al familia - but the highest paid d player ??? Donald, Bosa are better for sure maybe both the Bosas ? Dont think I'd pay a CB that kind of money nor a LB like Mack either... -

add high school valedictorian and has his degree from LSU...good family upbringing...the brother has a good head on his shoulders....luv his sense of humor from the various clips over the years...the one from his hockey academy where he called sabre goalie Hutton...Sutton...killed me... -
well it beats opening (and struggling) with the Jets...Pitts went 11-0 to start last season before a significant fade, so Big Ben is fresh and I expect a tough game. Focus points: 1. IOL - I do expect blitzes, stunts and good 1:1 pressure from the inside, Ford esp has to prove he can handle, Morse will likely need help with Heyward as well. 2. Watt (expected to play)- D Williams had a strong game last time - pretty much handled Watt 1:1 so we can spare double-team here for better inside support 3. Bills pass rush - eyes on Rousseau for impact, AND Addison played close to 60% last season, there should be some synergy between playing Addison less and getting more pressures-sacks. Better organic pressure, less blitzing = better coverage esp middle of field and TEs... 4. Bills run D - does Star have impact, does Oliver continue to improve, can Milano stay healthy as undersized LB ? 5. Butler - if-when they decide to bring Stevenson back from IR his roster spot comes to mind first, given 3 current DT subs (Zim, Harry, Butler) behind Star and Ollie, plus Butler would be 4M in cap savings as Bills are second-from-last in cap room....

Joe Gibbs on his great run with the skins back in the day, said we will never be out-captained, psycho edge more than anything...some locker room cred for some leadership...but on a more important note I think McD has a players leadership group or used to ? to help with communication and points of emphasis which would be helpful with culture, communication and two-way feedback coach(es) and team... -
Gabriel Davis interview from 9/2
First Round Bust replied to loedward22's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
could he become a #2 receiver ? I see him as the very valuable 3rd wide out - sideline-boundary - behind Diggs and Sanders (not to mention Cole in the slot - and whatever the downgrade TEs can give down the middle and seams ) ? Like DIggs he was a middle-round pick, and has been praised for grasping the playbook, routes, and just plain getting open and making nice catches on the sidelines -
Hollister signing with Jags
First Round Bust replied to SC BIlls Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
small sample size, gonna say he is better than Dawson Knox - a higher floor for sure, maybe Knox ceiliing can be higher but we keep waiting, waiting for that, and other than 1-2 spectacular plays the drops outweigh those -
when the days highlight is a long snapper being re-signed, its time to dig a litter deeper to feed us barnyard animals...from spotrac Initial 53-Man #NFL Rosters by Draft Round 1st Rounders: 263 2nd Rounders: 223 3rd Rounders: 226 4th Rounders: 184 5th Rounders: 146 6th Rounders: 138 7th Rounders: 94 Undrafted: 415 - So what was the effect of the pandemic ? Hmmm...the bottom of the draft rounds 4-5-6-7 add up to 562 Notable #NFL Cutdown Notes of the 415 UDFAs (24%) made an initial 53-man roster. 90 of those were signed this year. The #Patriots released all of their backup QBs. The #Lions released all of their kickers. The #Jets retained $1.2M of Chris Herndon’s salary when trading him to MIN. Players added to the Reserve/IR can be designated to return in 3 weeks - (Stevenson's speedy return, to in turn, intern as return-er) There’s no limit to how many players a team can designate. Should he sign elsewhere, Cam Newton will likely be offered a $1.075M league minimum salary. The #Patriots will then owe him just $425,000 of his original $1.5M guaranteed salary, as offset language kicks in. BB that bat rastard strikes again... Finally...The Athletic is running a sale, check it out, the content is really good for both our teams, locally (Joe B and others) and Sabres coverage by former BN legend John Vogel...plus national coverage is excellent and you get all sports, and baseball gods Gammons, Posnanski and tons of ex SI, ESPN, etc... Lastly - 10 mins of 2020 drone video over our city of 260k with a metro pop of 1.31M.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRuumTVOxdg enjoy whilst the PS squads fill....

Brandon Beanes Presser today…informative
First Round Bust replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
mildly surprised about Holister as well. but cannot argue the results of that 4 wide-spread O, + Sanders who they loved for years, adding some diversity like passes to RBs 1:1 in the flat, and slants and curls all of which is likely more productive than increasing the role of mediocre TEs and those drops...Beane may not be making waiver claims this week and the PS squad will have its constant-key members like QB, CB, OL, etc but it also is very fluid during the season with cuts and adds -

Happy birthday Aaron Schobel
First Round Bust replied to Brennan Huff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
the only thing new is the history you dont know... second to the immortal Bruce in career team sacks NFL Draft:2001 / Round: 2 / Pick: 46 Career history Buffalo Bills (2001–2009) Total tackles:483 Sacks:78.0 Forced fumbles:19 Fumble recoveries:8 Interceptions:3 Defensive touchdowns:1 Schobel earned his first Pro Bowl appearance in 2006. His best season as a pro came in 2006 when he posted a career high 14 sacks. Schobel, a first team alternate for the 2007 Pro Bowl, was called upon to relieve an injured Jason Taylor in the Pro Bowl. This was his second consecutive year in the Pro Bowl. He started in 116 consecutive games with the Bills from 2003 until 2008, when he was on the inactive list for a game against the San Diego Chargers due to an injured foot. After a team-leading, 10-sack 2009 season, Schobel informed the Bills that he was considering retirement. To add on, new coach Gailey said that he was looking to switch from a 4-3 to 3-4 defense It was reported by the Buffalo News on May 10, 2010 that Schobel & his wife June had sold their Orchard Park house, further adding to the speculation of his impending departure from the Bills. On July 27, 2010 Aaron Schobel announced he was 70/30 on returning to the Bills. On August 4, 2010, the Buffalo Bills released Aaron Schobel. He never signed with any other team; being released instead cemented his decision to retire, which he did on August 16. -
Former UB Bulls- Ups and Downs

and so was Cam Lewis (CB) from the Bills, likely PS pickup unless he gets goosed by our 6th rounder who was cut as well, which would be...wild -
guy I work with is a long-time Pats season tix holder, we are talking decades, is very happy to hear that Cam is gone, he was not happy they signed him to begin with an used the word SUCKS when we would talk about Cam...Pats do have a lot of dead cap space, so if they get those pricey FA vets injured they have less flex this season
-
4 year vets are excluded from waivers and are automatic free agents, has played well enough in a key position to get more guaranteed money, more than the $135k he signed for, mutually beneficial...another wise move by the front office to open a slot, then IR a keeper for short-term and then bring Holister back after that happens
