Happy with the win, not happy with the coaching staff
GreggTX replied to Walking Tall's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I believe Frazier's play calling is too predictable. Someone has picked up on it. Against Miami, having no starters at LB really hurt and Wallace got exposed. Credit Chan for that one. They played OK against the Jets, despite a 3rd quarter lull. Yesterday was a different story. Frazier had no answers in the 2nd half and was unable to adjust to what the Rams were doing. -
Good for him. I hope he plays well. Good luck Hausch-Money.

I agree that it was a bad call, but so was the Kroft catch that was ruled an interception, so it evens out.

The Defense What Is Going On & One Quick Allen Note
GreggTX replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We really didn't do enough to address the CB position or improve the pass rush which is still a problem. On top of that, I suspect that offenses are finding it easier to predict Frazier's play calling and take advantage of it. I have no proof of this, but once again, I refer to that game against the Chargers 2 years ago when McDermott took over the play calling at halftime and the difference was like night and day. Remember? -
Should the Bills bring in Marcel Dareus?
GreggTX replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No. -
I'm not at all worried about Hyde. Let McDermott start calling the plays for the defense and there will be sudden and drastic improvement.

I think our offense gets even better. Bills 40, Traitors 24.

Gabriel Davis on the 4th and 9 late PI call
GreggTX replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Interesting comment on the ref "squaring it up." I sometimes wonder about that too. It's not so easy to get it right 100% of the time and it's only natural that your emotions can affect your judgement. -
Unpopular take here...Tre is playing very meh
GreggTX replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have to disagree. I think CB is a crucial position as well as 4-3 DE or 3-4 OLB. -
3 most pleasant surprises 1. The scale of Josh Allen's improvement -- I'm not surprised that he has taken another step in his progress because he hasn't. He's taken 3 steps. Fix that fumbling problem and he's elite. 2. Darryl Williams -- I thought he'd never play at this level again after that awful knee injury. Thanks Panthers. 3. Team character -- Whatever McDermott is doing to build morale, it's off the charts. These guys never quit. 3 biggest disappointments 1. We're giving up too many points. That's pretty obvious, but I think that if this continues, we may see McDermott take over the playcalling for the D. As a defense first old schooler, this is hard to take. 2. Injuries -- We've finally started putting it all together. I hope we can stay healthy from here on out. 3. There is no number 3. I was going to mention Bass, but he seems to be settling in now.

Time for Tyler Kroft to step up EDIT: He Did!!!
GreggTX replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kroft is an average TE. He just played his best game. It's Knox who should concern us. -
Early week 3 power rankings are in and...

We're already #6 I don't see us going up after that game. -
Tremaine Edmunds and the run game
GreggTX replied to BillsFan130's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know how his shoulder affected him today, but run defense and tackling have always been a problem for him. He needs to play angry and make RB's fear him. I still remember Butkus saying his most fervent wish was to hit a guy so hard that his head would come off and roll down the field. Now there was a LB that understood how to intimidate an opponent. -
Josh Allen - week THREE report card
GreggTX replied to rayray808's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've doubted Josh all along, but not any more. I have never seen a QB with so many faults turn it around like he has this season. I don't blame him so much for that fumble, but like reigning the velocity of his throws, he must start wrapping up the ball even if it means a few less dramatic scrambles. Turnovers are killers and this is his last big hurdle to overcome. He simply must learn to put both hands on the ball and go down when he's in heavy traffic. Of course there will be some exceptions when a game is on the line. He also needs to limit the number of hits he's taking. Now that the light has come on for him, we can ill afford to lose him to injury. -
How can we improve this defence?
GreggTX replied to Niagara Dude's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I remember when McDermott took over the playcalling from Frazier at halftime in a game against the Chargers and they played so much better. Maybe he should consider taking over the defensive playcalling again or trade off back and forth with Frazier to confuse the other team. I've long believed that playcalling is a very underappreciated talent. -
This is why I like the insistence that we only sign guys with a lot of heart. McDermott has these guys ready to run through walls for him. I know we need to get better at making adjustments and let's focus more on Frazier in this regard.

Ryan Fitzpatrick: Hall of Famer? or First Ballot HoFer?
GreggTX replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
I like Fitz, but HOF???? -
I know what you mean, OP. I am amazed at the difference in JA this season, but our toughest games are coming and I honestly don't know what to expect. I have to go in and boost the AWR, Play Recognition and Toughness (+5) on every defensive player to get our D to play like they do in real life. After the Miami game I boosted Allen by 10 points in AWR, SAC, MAC and DAC. I also boosted his pocket awareness from paranoid to ideal. I boosted D Williams and D Dawkins by 3 points each. I want a HC Mode so I can call plays (or let the computer do it), make substitutions and manage the clock for a full 60 minute game. I want a realistic simulation, not bells and whistles. They NEVER fix so many shortcomings though.
-
Not all bad, but after addressing CB and TE next year, I really want to see us continue working to strengthen both lines. Many games can be won in the trenches.

1. I'm excited for Williams! I hope he's 100%. 2. I'm still concerned about Ford, but he's still young. 3. I feel sorry for anyone that has to block Aaron Donald. 4. I'd still like to add talent on the OL after this season.
