Rd 6, Pick 180 (1): Punter Matt Araiza, San Diego State
MJS replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall
I know there is a contingent of Bills fans who believe that we don't need a good punter because we punted the least in the NFL last year. That's true, but we still punted over 45 times. That's significant. For instance, Gabriel Davis only touched the ball 35 times on offense. Isaiah McKenzie only had 29 touches on offense. Obviously, not the same thing at all, but it's not like we never punt. We do punt. We can't face the Patriots every week, you know -
Draft grade review chart comprising 18 different reviewers for every team

Let's hope that lady got out of that relationship quickly. -
Weren't they saying that two picks would have been overpaying by a few points, so they decided to only offer the 4th because he thought just the 4th would get it done? That's how I interpreted it. I'll have to watch that part again.

They cut out a lot so we don't know what was being discussed behind the scenes. But it's clear that Beane is in charge of the draft process.

It's a toss up between Elam and Araiza for me. I'm glad we took a corner with elite traits and athleticism. Really excited to upgrade at punter too,and getting him in the 6th I think is good value.

I'm guessing teams know more about his situation than you do.

Predict the Defensive PPG Allowed This Year
MJS replied to Milanos Milano's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think they'll be about the same points wise. They were the #1 scoring defense last year and I bet they'll be around that this year. The difference will be their ability to make key stops in key situations when facing other good teams. -
You answered your own question. He has medical issues and had a bad year.

Of the serious SB Contenders who had the best draft?
MJS replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall
Exactly. They are less scary on offense than they were before. That's just not going to get it done in the AFC. The Ravens are always competitive and well coached, but I don't think they did anything to put themselves over the top. That's the problem. -
I give them a solid B. Without the 1st round trade up I'd bump them up to a B+ or A-. But I guess we have to actually see how they perform before really casting judgement.

No. It's just a weak class. Everybody has been saying this for awhile.

Two games versus New England, for sure. -

Dang! two AFC teams seemed to really help themselves : Jets & KC

I wouldn't want to have a team where my best players are all rookies. -
Do the Bills have the best offense in the league?
MJS replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
I guess we'll find out, but I doubt the Bills finish as the #1 offense in yards. Maybe the #1 scoring offense. The Bills have an elite offense which is what matters. -
Spelt is a type of wheat.

Belichick is a great coach. That's undeniable. He is a great defensive mind. As a GM, it is a mixed bag for sure. He has brought in overlooked players in the past and gotten good production. I don't think he has ever been anything but an average drafter, and more recently I'd say he has been pretty bad in the draft. I do think Brady has covered up a lot of deficiencies on offense over the years.

Teams don't grade players the same. Some teams take guys off their draft board completely for whatever reason. For instance, I bet Beane didn't have the top QB's on their board at all because they knew they weren't taking one. Maybe they took some guys off their board because of medical concerns too, or dropped them down their board. Some players are better scheme fits for certain teams as well. So, even if you are picking at 25 and only have 21 1st round grades, there is still a decent chance that one of those will get to you. For the Bills, if Elam was the last guy with a 1st round grade, that is a good reason for them to trade up a couple of spots to get him, especially if they had concerns that other teams might trade up ahead of them to take him.

Kyle Brandt will announce Bills 3rd round pick

Because he played for the team. -

I like Kyle alright, but I don't get why he was chosen for this, honestly. Because he says nice things about the Bills on national television? Doesn't everyone do that these days? He isn't even a Bills fan. How could he be "Bills Mafia"? -
I'll be impressed with the Jets if they can manage to get any of their good players to 2nd contracts. They tend to trade all their good players away before the end of their rookie deals. They've definately been a team that just accumulates talent instead of building a team and a culture (and I put the Dolphins in that same category as well). Maybe that changes, maybe it doesn't.
