I would be very surprised. I think Singletary is the superior back in almost every single way, except maybe pass protection.
-
He was never "really, really good". He did have moments of competence, though.

Name some good outside cornerbacks with sub 30 inch arms.
MJS replied to NewEra's topic in The Stadium Wall
It's not just about matching up against bigger receivers. Arm length helps you recover and make up ground on a receiver. It can be the difference between reaching out and tipping the pass for an incompletion, or reaching out and missing and the receiver makes the catch. Short arms means you have to play almost perfect. There is less room for error and recovery. -
Next he needs to be honest about the phone he had destroyed during deflate gate.

Baker Mayfield says goodbye to Cleveland (update - Traded to Panthers)
MJS replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Mayfield is honestly a decent QB. I'm surprised nothing has gotten done yet. -
I don't think anyone is being toxic in this thread. Disagreement is not toxic. Bates was paid a multi-year deal. He is paid like a starter and I think it is clear he is viewed as a starter by the franchise. If he doesn't start, that's a huge swing and a miss by Beane considering the contract he just gave him.
-
I understand. I don't think he has the value that you perceive he does, but I guess we'll see.

Starts wasn't my argument, it was the argument of the OP, that we should bring in Herbig because he has starting experience. While I think there is some validity to and value to starting experience, I think that is secondary to everything else, including athleticism, scheme fit, and potential.

Former Bills CB Levi Wallace takes blame for 13 Seconds
MJS replied to Giuseppe Tognarelli's topic in The Stadium Wall
Get thicker skin, I guess. There was nothing wrong with his comment. They've been trying to replace Wallace ever since he got here (without investing a ton in the position). I think the writing was on the wall. They wanted an upgrade regardless of that game.- 95 replies

Cody Ford is a better athlete and a better scheme fit, in my opinion. Ford has started 29 games versus only 17 for Herbig (and starting experience was the main argument in the OP for bringing him in). I also think Ike Boettger is a high quality backup who has performed pretty well with his starting experience. I don't feel strongly about this. I do, however, think it is not true to say that our backup linemen are really bad. I think Ford is an alright backup and Ike is a really good backup. I don't know much about Mancz. Obviously, you never want your backups to be starting because that's the nature of backups. But Ford and Boettger can get in and do alright.
-
Our backups aren't bad, they just aren't good starters. I completely disagree that Herbig is better depth.

I think Greg Rousseau becomes an elite pass rusher in 2022
MJS replied to streetkings01's topic in The Stadium Wall
One Bills Live talked about it. Said he has completely transformed himself. -
I think you'd at least want to portray yourself in a better light, even if it isn't true. Guys who complain about mentoring other players come across as incredibly insecure and bitter. As a player it is always better to take the stance of "Hey, I am always willing to help out my teammates in any way I can. If young players need advice or mentoring, all they need to do is ask. I'm an open book." As a player, you always need to be mindful of your brand and your legacy.

Man, what was he thinking looking behind him as he ran?
-
I think he is overrated, personally. Maybe he used to be really good, but he is just average at this point.
-
So they can work on it all practice long. The backup QB is in the QB room and has to prepare to actually play QB and also helps get the starting QB ready.
-
Ford will be here. He is decent depth. I am sure Epenesa will remain as well. Moss I could see either way. Depends on how he compares to Duke Johnson, I guess. I think Sweeney will be gone. Either Andre Smith or Tyrel Dodson could be gone, given that we drafted two linebackers. Maybe Matakevich if one of those linebackers takes over his special teams snaps. Haack is for sure gone.

Projecting coaches that won't make it to 2023
MJS replied to mushypeaches's topic in The Stadium Wall
I keep hearing about all this talent that Dallas has. You know what I think? They are just overrated. They don't have the level of talent that everyone praises them for. They fail sometimes because they AREN'T talented enough. I know they like to pay some of their players like they are the best in the league, but they're not. And that starts with Dak. Dak is a good QB, but he is overrated. He isn't good enough to be considered elite. He can't carry the team himself. Everyone expects him to be able to, and when he continues to fail to do it year after year, they blame coaching and everyone else. He is a stat aggregator, not a true winning QB. You know, like Kirk Cousins. They have enough talent to be consistently pretty good and occasionally beat up on another team, but not enough talent to be a true contender. If he doesn't, he'll still be the coach. Is that what you were going to say? -
Rd 6, Pick 180 (1): Punter Matt Araiza, San Diego State
MJS replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall
It's a pretty dumb concept by him. Has a coach EVER wanted to punt more just because they have a decent punter? I would think that would be the last thing on the coach's mind. You go for it at mid field and onward, where having a big leg is meaningless. When you get stalled in your own end, you don't go for it because it is too risky giving the other team the ball in scoring position. That's when having a big leg is great because you can flip the field position. I bet they'll try to reign that in, though. You only have one punter and can't afford for them to get hurt making a tackle. -
I watched it again. They were saying the fourth and pick 185 would be overpaying by five points. Then they said "being that close, the fourth should get it done" and they all agreed. And then when Beane was on the phone with the Ravens he only mentioned pick 130 as part of the trade. So I bet the Bills came out ahead in the value according to whatever chart they were using, ultimately.

I know there is a contingent of Bills fans who believe that we don't need a good punter because we punted the least in the NFL last year. That's true, but we still punted over 45 times. That's significant. For instance, Gabriel Davis only touched the ball 35 times on offense. Isaiah McKenzie only had 29 touches on offense. Obviously, not the same thing at all, but it's not like we never punt. We do punt. We can't face the Patriots every week, you know -
Draft grade review chart comprising 18 different reviewers for every team
MJS replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall
Let's hope that lady got out of that relationship quickly. -
Weren't they saying that two picks would have been overpaying by a few points, so they decided to only offer the 4th because he thought just the 4th would get it done? That's how I interpreted it. I'll have to watch that part again.
-
They cut out a lot so we don't know what was being discussed behind the scenes. But it's clear that Beane is in charge of the draft process.

It's a toss up between Elam and Araiza for me. I'm glad we took a corner with elite traits and athleticism. Really excited to upgrade at punter too,and getting him in the 6th I think is good value.
