  1. This is just such a bad take. No, Beane isn’t calling other position coaches to ask if they should draft/sign O-Linemen, but that’s because they aren’t ON HIS PAYROLL. Bobby Johnson’s job, as paid by Brandon Beane, is literally to coach and evaluate O-Line talent inside the building. OF COURSE they discuss O-Line talent together, which is information used to make decisions. You don’t need to change the topic or split hairs to backtrack from a bad take. No, Bobby Johnson doesn’t “analyze whether a player should be traded” but he CERTAINLY shares his opinion on the guys he is literally paid to coach and evaluate. This really shouldn’t be so hard to grasp. If Bobby Johnson gives bad information to Brandon Beane, it turns into bad roster moves.
  2. Oh man... ok. Let's try to explain this differently: Option 1: Beane listens to Bobby Johnson. Bobby Johnson is a former Offensive Lineman who understands the nuances of Offensive Line play. He is with the Offensive Linemen of the Bills nearly every day and practices with them 1 on 1 nearly every day. He gives his opinions to Beane on the Offensive Line talent on the roster and decides where they line up. Option 2: Beane "watches almost every Bills game" and makes a decision without any input from Bobby Johnson. Brandon Beane, who is in charge of roster management, cap management, filling every position on the field along with practice squad, coaching and executive hires, publicity, and general team management... and he makes unilateral decisions on the Offensive Line. Which is more likely?
  3. A few corrections to your post: - Bobby Johnson was signed in January, 2019. Wyatt Teller was traded August 29th, 2019. They had all training camp and pre-season together. - Morse was coming off a great career as a 2nd round pick in KC and was made one of the highest paid Centers in the league by the Bills. - He didn't "turn Spain into" a good player. Spain was great in 2018 and then Bobby Johnson benched him after he signed an extension. - Dawkins was drafted in 2017 and looked great before Bobby Johnson got here. I don't understand the excuses for this guy... So, I think this mindset is the issue. You're right that Bobby Johnson didn't force Beane to make these moves. However, Brandon Beane isn't sitting in the O-Line room and coaching these players every day. He's not scouting his own offensive line 24/7. He's trying to bring in new talent and like every other GM, relies on his coaches for information on internal need. At some point, Beane probably asked Bobby Johnson "hey, how is this Wyatt Teller guy looking?" or "what are we missing on the O-Line" and the information he's been given is consistently wrong.
  4. Like many of you, I listen to daily podcasts, read the beat reports, and read this message board daily. The commentary is consistent: "Brandon Beane did a bad job with our Offensive Line." Here's my take ... it's not Beane. It's Bobby Johnson, our O-Line coach. Bobby Johnson joined the Bills staff in early 2019, his first time as head O-Line coach in the NFL: 2018: Brandon Beane drafts Wyatt Teller in the 5th round. 2019: Wyatt Teller traded for a 5th and 6th round pick. The next year Wyatt Teller becomes a pro-bowl player. 2018: Brandon Beane signs Quinton Spain to a 1 year deal, followed by a 3 year extension. 2020: Quinton Spain is benched in favor of Cody Ford and Brian Winters. He is later released. The next year Quinton Spain becomes a pro-bowl caliber player. 2019: Brandon Beane drafts Cody Ford in the 2nd round. He is lined up at Right Tackle and struggles badly. 2020: Cody Ford is lined up at Right Guard and struggles. Quinton Spain is released and Cody Ford is flipped to Left Guard and struggles. 2021: Cody Ford is named starting Right Guard to begin the season, then is benched in week 2. 2020: Brandon Beane signs Darryl Williams to a cheap 1 year deal at RT and he is a huge success. 2021: Darryl Williams begins the year at RT, then is flipped to RG in week 2, then moves back to RT. 2021 Offseason: Big contract extensions for Darryl Williams and Jon Feliciano. Both are sub-standard players in 2021. Spencer Brown drafted in 3rd round. Benched in week 1, starter in week 2, which again changes entire o-line. Or how about Ryan Bates this year? Clear upgrade at LG and was left rotting on the bench all regular season. The problem is not bringing in guys, it's being completely clueless about our own Offensive Line players. We change their positions endlessly and let the good ones go. That is 100% certain. Beane is certainly partially to blame, but I'm looking at Bobby Johnson as the guy in the O-Line room every day, completely clueless about his own players.
  5. The problem is both o-line and running backs. The o-line isn't creating holes, but the RBs are going down immediately on first contact and not fast enough to run away from anyone. Ever notice that there are zero outside runs? It's because our RBs can't get out there fast enough. Let's not blame one thing, but I agree with you. Bad o-line = bad running game.
  6. I like this thread. Realistic fixes to problems rather than just b*tching about Beane not constructing the perfect team. Williams would be a nice replacement for Moss, short term. See if he has more juice... he'll definitely "want it" more than Moss. This might be a hot take, but I wouldn't mind giving BOTH Breida and Williams a shot next week and sitting Singletary. What does Singletary do well? Maybe some agility and some pass catching ability... but no speed and can't break a tackle to save his life. If you have bad O-Line play, you need guys who can either run away from the pressure or run through it. Singletary can't do either.
  7. Silver lining - it’s week 9 and we’re figuring out how to solve weaknesses before the final push and playoffs
  8. It’s the offensive line, genius. There are more reasons explained in literally every other thread. What is the point of this one? Just to say “told ya so” ?
  9. Lets move our franchise left tackle to Center, put Tommy Sweeney at left tackle because he’s agile, put an injured Feliciano in at Center also, then flip Bottegar with Feliciano because position flexibility. Problem solved.
  10. It's the other way around. We have people on the message boards guaranteeing wins ahead of both the Dolphins game and Jaguars game ... and then acting like the team is a disgrace and not worth our money when that doesn't happen. I don't know where this fan attitude came from, but it's so embarrassing. The Bills are a good, young, playoff bound team. They deserve the benefit of the doubt and the same "wait and see" approach from fans that we expect from players. Enjoy the wins and try not to kill yourselves when they have a bad game.
  11. The holds have been great. The punting has been below average. We lost the Steelers game because he took an hour to punt. I'm not ready to give him a "shout out" for doing 1 of his 2 responsibilities well.
  12. The moment your start counting blowout wins before they happen is the moment you lose. We almost got caught with this mentality last week. You didn't learn your lesson?
  13. My buddy is a big Saints fan and he said the Saints have been trying to offload him for months. "He doesn't ever want to play football again" is the general feeling and Saints are trying to salvage what they can.
  14. #14 overall pick who looks like the real deal and is under team control via 5th year option for the next 3 years including this one.... Why would they trade him for a 2nd round pick? They're going to draft a QB after this year and having a good O-Line in place is the #1 priority for a QB's development. They would never, ever, ever do this.
  15. I love Mac Jones. I think he's the perfect QB to take a team to 8-9 or 9-8 purgatory. He will never win you a Super Bowl, but he'll be good enough to make sure you don't have a good pick to get a new QB. Say it with me. I. Love. Mac. Jones.
  16. How about David Montgomery? 3rd round RB on third year of his rookie contract. Khalil Herbert has looked fantastic as a rookie since Montgomery got hurt. Bears can use all the help they can get and with Herbert looking so good, I wonder if they would be willing to trade Montgomery in exchange for a 2nd rounder and Singletary? That would be a nice haul and I think it would be worth it for both teams.
  17. It’s unfortunate that he’s in a contract year next year because he’s going to be paid a ton and frankly, doesn’t deserve it. I would take him for a “B average” salary like $8MM per for the next 10 years, but unfortunately, he’ll get way more from us or someone else.
  18. Very strong attempt to troll. A-. I deducted a half point because you forgot that at the beginning of the season, everyone was saying the AFC is poised to be the new dominant division. This might come as a shocker, but there are many good teams in both the NFC and AFC and whichever teams go to the Super Bowl will be good teams.
  19. Deshaun Watson trade rumors are officially the new Brett Favre retirement rumors. I'll care if/when it happens and that's about it. We've been doing this for 6 months.
  20. I think it's so important that we need a second thread about it when there's a 5 page thread about it immediately below this one.
  21. Shout out to the people on this thread that don't get the joke and actually think Hart is good.
  22. So... we're saying that Knox is a bust now? Top 10 TE in yards per game, Top 10 in receiving yards, #1 in Receiving TD's, has shown great blocking skills... and he's a bust. Jesus.
  23. As much fun as it was to be considered #1 by analysts, I've enjoyed the "this doesn't change anything" crowd even more. It softens a blow after a really tough loss and I agree with them.
