This one here. That was supposed to be a big home game and they just came out and laid an egg. It was the second Jets game in late November that year that really did it for me. Towards the end he was just trying to do anything and kept throwing picks. A lot of times when they would try to come from behind he'd go and chuck a jump ball that was always five yards underthrown. I like Fitz, he's a great dude, and he catches fire every now and then but just doesn't maintain it.

Rumor/Speculation only: Will Pats sign Kapernick?
blacklabel replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I highly doubt that Kap fits ol' Bellychunk's system of the "Patriot Way." He wants guys who fall in line and do what he tells them. Plus, Kap's going on, what, three years removed from pro ball? I dunno, but I don't think the guy could just step right in and pick up where he left off, which wasn't really that great, his final year as a starter I think he was around 175 passing yards on average per game. Kap's had several opportunities to get back in the league (I believe Denver and Baltimore both offered contracts) but he has it in his head that he's a QB1 and deserves the starting position as soon as he sets foot in a team facility. I haven't seen much of Stidham, but when I do, it'll be when Epnesa pummels him into the dirt. Take that, Stinkham. -
The 39thirty is where it's at for me. Never got into the flat brim styles, I just look like a doofus in those. I mean, if you ask around, I'm sure you'll find that people think I look like a doofus either way, but that's neither here nor there. Each year, I usually pick up the draft hat. But the last couple years the designs have been straight caca. This years isn't too bad, though. Might have to grab that one.

I've said this a bunch of times before, but I think Josh is gonna be the type of player that can really wow you on some plays, and then make you go, "What in the eff..." on some others. I think Beane and McDermott knew that when they drafted him. They've pretty much said they can live with some WTF plays as long as his positive plays far outweigh the negative ones. Given how much he improved from '18 to '19, I can't see any reason why he won't continue to build on that. He's had quite a bit of consistency in terms of coaches and teammates, something a lot of new QBs don't get. Heading into year three of Daboll's offense, same guys up front to protect him, same playmakers around him which now include a go-to receiver in Diggs and a guy who I think is gonna be a beast in Zack Moss. It's all right there in front of him, it's up to him to take advantage.

What are some of your favorite firsts?
blacklabel replied to Royale with Cheese's topic in Off the Wall Archives
First pair of boobs I got to motorboat down there by the creek that one summer was pretty cool. First (and probably only) time I got to see SNL happen live in Studio 8H last December. Followed by my first slice of real NYC pizza. Can't remember the name of the joint but I remember where it's at! And we (wife and I) weren't sure if the pizza was just that good or if it was so good because we were dehydrated and starving after walking around the city all day. So before we left we made sure to grab some slices on our way out and I'm pretty sure it was just that good. And then, our journey back to Buffalo was the first time I'd ever experienced four straight flight delays followed by three gate changes which had us walking clear across LaGuardia from one end to the other. All this while I'm trying to watch Bills vs. Steelers. So of course when the game started coming down to the wire it was time to board the plane which had non-functional WiFi that only allowed me to get sporadic updates from my brother via Messenger. "Phillips sacks Hodges again!" or "Bills pick it off again!" And I'm just like "dear lord just close out the game!" We landed just a couple hours before the team did and it would've been cool to hang around to greet them but I was dead tired, colder than a witches titterino and beyond ready to go home. And then that was the first time I ever waited outside the airport for nearly an hour because my father in law got lost. Yay for firsts! -
I'm sure Murph has and does work hard at what he does, but he's never resonated with me. Some guys have a natural ability to flow with the excitement of the game. When Murph's excited I just feel like he's gonna pass out from trying so hard to sound hyped up. I suppose I was spoiled with Van all those years. He just had a knack for what he did.

I feel like I remember seeing that Pettine was one to talk during Marrone's first year. I still recall Tim Graham's story in early 2014 about how Marrone basically tried to intimidate him before they left for an away game. Marrone's a weird dude. Long after his walkout from here, he talked to SI (I think?) and was apparently good with what the reporter was going to write about. But then a few hours after the interview, Marrone called the reporter and wanted to recant whatever he said. I think the reporter told him he'd already turned in some stuff to his editor. Marrone hung up...only to call again a short while after to say he spoke with his wife and now feels like the interview is fine. Whackadoodle.

Dapgummit, Eduardo! Can they fine him for a lack of brains and foresight? Although... Some of ya go on and on about how McBeane sign only choir boys. A very uh, un-choir-boy type of thing happens and suddenly the same crowd is shouting how he's just not a process guy and they saw this coming miles away. Uh huh. Fines, counseling/classes, a stern talking-to from McDermott and Uncle Rog.

As far as I can recall, I think the only game where he took over all defensive play calls was the second half of the 2018 Chargers debacle. I can't remember for sure but I think the word that came out after that was that McDermott would continue to have Frazier call the defense but McDermott can veto a call if he wants. I'm pretty sure they got on the same page after that, though. I'm sure there are times during games where Sean sees something and communicates to Frazier about it and may suggest certain calls, or just straight up tell him, "I want this on the next down." But yeah, Chargers game is all I can recall and the ol' Google didn't turn up anything else in that regard.

The helmet isn't bad, I kinda like the new logo. I'm not real sold on the color tones they chose, there are better blues and yellows out there. The font for the numbers is...not great, Jim. That makes how many teams that have updated/tweaked uniforms this season? Rams, Falcons, Patriots, Browns, Buccaneers, Chargers... Am I forgetting anyone? Out of all of them I think Atlanta's has been the worst. The Browns changes were solid. The few tweaks the Pats made look good. The Bucs look like they just dug out their look from the late 90s. Chargers have a solid color scheme but overall were just kinda meh. Wonder if the Bills hop on the redesign train at some point. I'm hoping they'll change the one helmet rule, this would allow teams to have more options and it'd be cool to see the Bills use the 90s look (lighter shade of blue with the red helmets) for throwbacks.

I was excited he was drafted here. His college tape is great. I thought he'd be pretty good. Had some good games, had a decent season in 2015 but obviously the injuries got to him and then it sounds like he's fallen down a few too many YouTube/Wikipedia rabbit holes. I'm no doctor or psychologist so it's not my place to say the guy has some kinda mental illness. I think he might just be a little naive to all the stuff he's read about. You can see why they traded him. That type of attitude isn't going to work in a McDermott locker room. One minute the guy ponders if he should even play football, the next he's demanding ten targets a game. I'd imagine McDermott looks for stronger commitment than that. Interesting fella for sure. -
The guy is a bit untethered. That interview he did a few weeks ago where he was claiming to be better than a number of backs currently on an NFL roster...it's like, dude, maybe in an athletic sense you were better than them at one point, but you're unreliable. A lot more goes into being a professional than athletic gifts. Dude lacks some self-awareness.

Auditor: Favre received welfare money for no-show speeches

Thanks for the source. I knew I had read somewhere that he was giving back the money and that the auditors themselves stated that they've found no evidence that Favre knew. -

It's exciting that they scored so many primetime games. At the same time, they're in the spotlight now and I really like when they fly under the radar. McDermott's been hyping them as underdogs for three years now, I wonder what his message is when they're the favorites.
