Free Agency News and Updates - around the league
blacklabel replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hope the Dolphins slip on a banana peel. -
I'd be alright with Howard as the #2 back. Started off his career pretty hot but then kinda fell off the rails there. Everyone clamoring for them to say, "Eh, fudge Howard, we'll just draft a guy" they could do both, really. And keep in mind that they prefer a veteran in each position group. Also keep in mind how gradually they worked Singletary into the offense. They might want a guy who can come in and be able to contribute quicker than a rookie.

Free Agency News and Updates - around the league

Shaq's recent social media posts are interesting. Clearly ODB is busy today re-signing Spain and restructuring Kroft, so maybe he sees that and his posts are like, "Hey, my turn?" Or, he's effin' around, or maybe homeboy struck a new deal with them. I figured he'd definitely be one to test the market, but maybe that's changed now given the fact that he's turned into a big part of the locker room. Maybe he wants to stay here where he's established and where he's become somewhat of a leader. I think he played well in 2019, pretty solid all around player, but he doesn't really pop off the screen with any one skill. He seems to know the defense and his assignments real well, gets a lot of props for being good against the run. As for his sacks, though, I feel like all or most of them are coverage sacks. He's not exactly buzzing right past guys with speed or making them whiff with a set of ninja-like moves. If he does get to the QB right off the rip he's usually up against a TE or a back. One-on-one against OL, he really has to work to get a sack. That was kind of his story in college, too. Maybe he's trending towards becoming a guy who can beat an OL the way he slapped around TBD Perennial All-Universe Mega-Legend "OMG why did they ever let this guy walk, fire Beane now!!111" Supergod Nick O'Leary, like he did in '18. Maybe the brass is super impressed with how he responded to their "earn it" message and they think he can only get better from here. We shall see. For the record, I like Shaq and would welcome him back on a fair deal. -
It reminds me of the Chargers more than the Rams... which gives some credence to the rumor that it could possibly a "mash-up" kinda thing to represent both LA teams. Either way, the designer here should be sent to the corner with the Cone of Shame.

What is all this, some kinda joke?! ...Aiyuk-yuk-yuk... It's been a long day already and I'm not even halfway through it. I'd be fine with them taking this guy, seems like he's got a lot of upside. Based on Beane's comments, it seems they're gonna continue to work on helping Allen realize he doesn't have to do it all himself. I just hope they aren't trying to condition him into a game manager or anything. Dude has some special traits that they gotta dial up here and there.

It's fine. I doubt they're looking at him to be much more than a rotational piece. And who says he's guaranteed a roster spot? He'll have to earn it.

In looking at safety depth -- Karl Joseph is a FA

Took a look at his history.... 2014 - Freshman - Redshirt 2015 - RS Freshman - Played in 10 of 14 games, 4 INTs, 2 fumble recoveries (FRs), 43 tackles 2016 - RS Sophomore - One game, then medical redshirt 2017 - RS Sophomore - Played in 10 of 14 games, began returning punts (9.9 yards per return, one TD), 1 INT, 2 FFs, 1 FR, 87 tackles 2018 - RS Junior - Played in all 14 games, returned two punts for TDs (in the same game), 3 INTs, 2 FFs, 3 FRs, 76 tackles, named First Team All-South Atlantic Conference both as a DB and punt returner. 2019 - RS Senior - Played in 7 of 14 games, despite this, was named best defensive player in DII (Cliff Harris Award), DII First Team All-American, among other accolades. Two punt return TDs (again in the same game), 3 INTs w/one a pick-six (3 total TDs on the season), Lenoir-Rhyne's all-time leader in punt return yards, 31 tackles. Overall he missed 28 games through his career (not counting the RS Freshman year). All I know is, Bills have done more homework on him than any other team and McDermott has to be giddy about this kid's versatility. He's lined up everywhere on defense except interior DL, some think his best position could be LB as he has the size (6'2" 220, about the same as Milano, who's 6' even, I believe) but I can see McDermott utilizing him as a chess piece he can put all over the field and in multiple packages. Definitely one to keep an eye on. -
Will Cody Ford Be Our Starting RT Next Year?
blacklabel replied to Victory Formation's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well said, sir. Knox dropped some gimmies too, and a few of them were in crucial situations or would've resulted in a big gain or an important first down. (He dropped a TD pass as well, right? I think they scored on that drive anyway, but still). Most people see that and say, "Eh, he'll come around, he's a rookie, still adjusting." From early last season the view on Ford was mainly, "Good gravy what the hell are they doing with him at right tackle?! This is an atrocity! I want changes, dapgummit!" and the "Move him to guard" campaign was led by Joe B all frickin' season. Given a full off-season to get right physically, plus his year of experience, I expect McDermott will give him every chance to win the right tackle spot. At best he's the guy at that spot, at worst, he's probably a really well-rounded guard, so it's not like it's a huge deal if he doesn't end up at the spot they drafted him for. In addition to his injuries, I wonder how the every other series thing affected him. Most players like to get into a groove, I wonder if more time on the sideline between series' messes with that. I suppose that could mess with the opponent as well. An edge rusher might be thinking, "OK, it's Ford this series, which means I can run moves A, B, and C." And then next series he might be like, "Now it's Nsekhe and he totally shut down move B so I got A and C that I can try against him." -
Would you trade for Fournette?
blacklabel replied to WideRightRevenge's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If I'm running the team... sure, why not? I'd go as high as a 3rd. But I don't run the team, McBeane do... and I don't think Fournette fits their character profile. He's had attitude issues, had the fight up here, pouted on the sidelines, defiance with coaches, etc. His numbers for last season aren't too bad. Before that, though, he was criticized a lot for a 3.3 YPR in '18 and a 3.9 YPR in '17. I think he'd be a good in a combo with a guy like Singletary. Doubt he'd wanna be on a team where he isn't the featured back, though. -

I could be wrong but haven't injuries caused him a slow start to his career? I'm still of the mind that they're gonna come out of this draft with Kyle Dugger. -
Share an Unpopular Bills-Related Opinion
blacklabel replied to Phil The Thrill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Players on the opposing team will make plays despite our guys being in position and doing everything correctly. It doesn't mean the player who got beat sucks or can't hang. Doesn't mean the coaches called the wrong play or didn't prepare them enough. Sometimes on this board you'd think people's expectations are, "Must be 100% perfect, zero flaws!" because at times I'll see silly comments like, "Yeah, Tre' had a good game, two picks, one of 'em a pick-six, and a forced fumble... but, he allowed a 24 yard reception! Pff, I mean, can we get some guys here who can actually cover?! Do better, OBD!" -
New NFL substance policy: no more testing for pot

With as much research and digging team scouts do, I'm sure they know or at least have a pretty good idea which guys use. -

Kyle Dugger. -
Hmm... they started out at $8 a month for a subscription and I don't think that lasted very long before they bumped it up to $11. The content is pretty good. Sometimes there's some filler, but guys like Joe B and Fairburn are on there, and Timmy Graham who I think is a solid writer that likes to troll sometimes. I dunno if I'd pay more than $11 a month though, so if they're looking for more revenue, hopefully it doesn't come in the form of charging subscribers more.

Obviously the guy is going to speak positively about the state of things here. What should he say, "Eh, yeah, we still kinda suck but we almost didn't totally suck last season. Come help us not suck so much!" Yeah, that sounds enticing. I think the overhaul of culture goes beyond the team. It's pretty well-known that when Ralph was the owner, the Bills were a team that generally offered low-ball deals to free agents (their own as well) and had an owner that really didn't have full trust in his administration. Then, you gotta wash off the stank of missing the playoffs for 17 straight seasons and only putting up, what, two winning records during that entire stretch? Then, you're dealing with the usual crap that gets mentioned, small market team, poop weather, nothing to do, blah blah blah. The overhaul of the culture comes from the top down, starting with the Pegulas. They're the opposite of Ralph in that they fully trust their personnel and they give them the money and resources to do what they gotta do in order to get better. I think they're very conscious of the outside perception a lot of people have and they work hard to change that. Surely Cole Beasley thought he probably saw the king of stadiums with Jerryworld, but he comes to this city by the lake and he's blown away by the facilities. (Yeah, I know the stadium is nowhere near the level of Dallas). They reach out to players and their families to personally let them know that they'll be taken care of while they're here. That they're important not just as a football player for the Buffalo Bills, but as a member of the Buffalo community. You just don't hear about that stuff with many other teams. Those things stand out and make a difference. I also think something that could draw players here is the fact that the Bills and the Sabres are really it for this town. I mean that, as in, they aren't overshadowed by an NBA team, or an MLB team, or other sports teams. There aren't tons of big events/shows/concerts always coming through town. These dudes get off the plane at 1 AM and a hundred some odd fans are out there at the airport freezing their jimmies off just so they can congratulate the team and show appreciation. There's no way players see that and don't think, "Wow, this is special, this is different." Mitch Morse and Cole Beasley were greeted with a bucket of wings coming off the plane to do their introductory press conferences. Don't think those guys don't take notice of that. Dion Dawkins spoke about how in other places people would see a guy like him and think, "Oh yeah, that's probably a football player or something" but here, he's got people that know exactly who he is, where he's from, what he's done so far in the league, etc. So yeah, come to Buffalo. Can't absolutely guarantee you'll be the best-ever version of yourself, but they'll sure as sh*t do all they can to help you try to get there. And the fans are gonna make you feel like more than just a football player. And they're gonna give you a home-crowd atmosphere that's gonna remind you of your college days. Yeah, half the frickin' games are played under gloomy gray skies and the occasional blizzard (Indy 2017!) but I really think they can offer a very unique experience you might not get elsewhere.

Matt Miller@BR - Latest Buzz for every team
blacklabel replied to BarleyNY's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think they end up with two receivers in this draft, one in round two or three (I don't think they prioritize the position highly enough to warrant a first round pick) and one somewhere in the last couple rounds as well. I think Bryan Edwards is a real possibility. Looks like they've done a lot of homework on him. I haven't really dug in yet with the draft and whatnot this year but in trying to predict who the Bills would likely take just look for the guys who are team leaders or captains, are seniors or have three years of college ball under their belt, have positional versatility, and have high character. That be the McBeane player M.O. -

May the Jets fail at absolutely everything they do. I despise them. I hate Gase's smug little rat fink face. I hope he smacks his stupid toe on every stupid piece of furniture he owns. I hope his Microsoft Surface malfunctions and deletes his entire stupid playbook. I hope Darnold throws about 27 errant passes per practice that hit him right in his googily-eyed fink-face. Friggin' loser. I hope they bring in Conklin and he wastes their friggin' time and makes them think he's gonna sign there and then turns around and signs somewhere else. I hope that happens with every single GD free agent they bring in. -
Would you make a trade for Alshon Jeffery?
blacklabel replied to BuffaloBills1998's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've read/heard that Wentz can come off like a know-it-all, even arguing with coaches at times about how things should be run. I watched the All or Nothing on the Eagles from this season and I got the sense that Wentz kinda has some trouble relating to his teammates in a non-football way. If he wasn't talking football, he seemed kinda timid and awkward. The life of that team is Brandon Graham, dude talks a lot and he's funny as hell. -
Harrison Phillips recovery update
blacklabel replied to CorkScrewHill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it's a good practice to do because it keeps players fresh. But, sometimes I wish he'd go by the situation rather than, "this is how the rotation goes." Because there's been more than a few times where you definitely want your first string guys out there, especially when a trailing opponent is trying to rally. -
Scott Chandler, maybe? I definitely recall he had the ball punched out against Atlanta in like '13 or '14, cost 'em the game.
