  1. Can't forget Shula No wins in the seventies Jerry Bergman sucked
  2. I think there was a fair amount of sandbagging yesterday by the coaches in looking towards Thursday. And because it's the first Thursday game of the season, I suspect they've spent time on game planning Miami already. I doubt they let the players in on the plan until last night.
  3. Oliver was doubled a ton yesterday. He ate blockers and did his job.
  4. We didn't have both starting safeties two years ago and other than the one long pass to Waddle late in the game, their O didn't do jack all day. I'm more worried about the loss of Taron going into this game. That and Williams needs to get a clue at LB position next to Bernard.
  5. I agree entirely that Reid will scheme him into motion, bunched sets, etc. and that underscores my point which is that he is not an on ball receiver. Muscling little fast guys at the LOS is different than muscling little quick guys at the LOS. Worthy has world class straight line speed and he can take the top off a defense if allowed free releases, but we’ve seen for years how little guys can struggle vs. continuous contact for five yards vs press coverage. And I think that’s what DCs will do if he lines up on the ball with any frequency. If he were strong like Tyreek Hill, I’d think differently, but he’s just not.
  6. Watch it again. Humphrey was three yards off the LOS and not playing press. Worthy had a free, three step release before Humphrey stepped up to bump him with that little shove to the side, which actually helped worthy get to the sideline. I just don’t think DCs are gonna give him that room very often. It also helps when your CBs know what the coverage assignments are because Humphrey was playing zone and clearly expecting help when he passed Worthy off.
  7. Not necessarily. A good chuck at the line negates a ton of Worthy’s speed advantage. I’ll be surprised if he plays more on the ball than off the ball as the season progresses and defenses adjust. We shall see.
  8. It’s only a matter of time before DCs play press coverage when Worthy is line up on the LOS, depending on the game situation. I haven’t changed my opinion one bit that he is an off ball receiver because he struggles against press coverage, especially against bigger, stronger CBs. Kudos to Mahomes for seeing the play, but it never would have happened if Worthy wasn’t allowed a free release.
  9. Bob Lanier says hold my beer. Well, he would if he were still with us.
  10. One word at a time. Sometimes slowly, so Jets fans can understand.
  11. 4merper4mer has metamorphosed into Scott Law; one of the original Mr. Yuks.
  12. It was LaFleur’s offense when he was with the Jest, not Nate Hackett’s. Not that it makes any difference, because he wouldn’t offer much, if any, appreciable intelligence anyway. Same with the Dolphins.
  13. Bass definitely seems to have a case of the yips and I’m not in the habit of making excuses for players, but struggling now or not, our kickers have the unfortunate task of having to perform in the absolute worst stadium for kickers in the league, especially late in the season (read: playoffs). It’s been that way since Rich Stadium first opened the gates. All you need to know about that is the best kicker in NFL history, Justin Tucker, managed to miss not one, but two normally easy kicks for him when we met in the Ravens at home in the playoffs a few years ago. That won’t be the case when the new stadium opens in a couple years. Our passing game will no longer be impacted as well.
  14. I wouldn’t hold up Gary Anderson as an example of a kicker that lost his confidence while with us and then found it again. He told us he didn’t want to be drafted by us, resented the fact that we did anyway, and then proceeded to sabotage his very short stay here by deliberately missing kicks in practice and a couple preseason games before we cut him prior to the start of the ‘82 season. He was never here long enough to lose his confidence with us and his arrogance wouldn’t allow that anyway. Perhaps he struggled with confidence in Pittsburg, but he managed to stay there 13 years.
  15. Davis is a superior receiver out of the backfield and that’s important to the Brady scheme of things.
  16. Based on the success rates of 4th and 7 ( 43%)* and Tyler Bass’s career success rate on FGs between 40-49 yards (84%) it’s a no-brainer for me: I let Bass attempt the FG. Of course weather might impact the decision, but Bass has a nearly double the chance to be successful. * based on a study of data between 2013-2022 published by The Sporting News. A ten year chunk of data is a pretty good sample size imo.

There are several factors that aid in the defense against that charge in CA and yeah, Araiza had them at his disposal. DAs only bring cases that can reasonably succeed and I believe that’s why the DA didn’t bring the criminal charge, ultimately. Araiza and the others had good reason to believe the woman was 18 or older.

You raise a great point about the SDPD and the SDSU police. I believe they withheld vital information from the Bills and the league when the Bills and league were doing their usual due diligence prior to the draft and your explanation about the PAC-12 and the potential revenue infusion makes a ton of sense now.

In the exact same situation? Of course the Bills and their attorneys would make the same decision. And so would ecery other team. You’re forgetting their was actual evidence that Araiza may have been involved in something nefarious; not the least of which are the fact that the SDPD recorded him admitting to having sex with the girl at that party and that the SDPD had an open criminal investigation of Araiza and the others at the time. And the filing of the civil suit naming Araiza as one of the accused in August, 2022 only made the situation worse. And that’s all the Bills and every other team had to go on at the time. But hindsight trumps foresight every time, I guess.

Except they weren’t reacting to “the mob” although the PR ramifications were certainly valid. They were listening to the advice of their attorneys. As I said earlier, the Bills, the other 31 teams, and the league itself did not have the luxury of hindsight at the time. Everyone erred on the side of caution which is the most prudent course of action when outcomes in cases like this cannot be determined until the legal issues are resolved. As for the creation of that expectation, I can’t agree with that in the least. For several reasons. So I will just agree to disagree on that point.

The DA was still investigating the incident at the time of Araiza’s departure from the team. There was no way the Bills or anyone else could know if the DA would or would not press charges in a criminal case. The woman and her attorney certainly did file a civil suit against him and the others allegedly involved. Araiza was later dropped from the suit as part of his settlement with the woman.
