First Half wasn't as awful as everyone is saying
eball replied to mjt328's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It was a desperation heave and yes, he saw Bell back there but to call that "pinpoint" is hilarious. Darnold and Bell made a nice backyard play but let's not go overboard. -
First Half wasn't as awful as everyone is saying
eball replied to mjt328's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Excellent post @mjt328. The Bills are going to have a lot of good things to look at on film this week, and should also be able to identify where some things went wrong. But the bottom line is that there is much to be optimistic about and the ongoing media narrative of "Josh had an awful first half" is way overblown. -
The Bills won for the reason I thought they would win beforehand -- their defense. Yes, Josh Allen and the offense made huge plays in the 4th quarter but all of that would have been rendered meaningless if not for the D continually shutting down the Jets. The Bills' defense was the best overall unit on the field for both teams.

Did we ever see the taunting penalty for Jon Feliciano?
eball replied to Mantis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's not. He's "giving him the business down there." -
Offense: six "chunk" plays of 20+ yards and one TD Defense: zero "chunk" plays allowed Is that how this game is played? If not for the unfortunate turnovers in the first half (three of them were extremely unlucky) we're talking about a different ballgame. And before anyone chimes in with "but you can't ignore the turnovers" I know that. I can also read a box score that shows Buffalo outgained the Jets by almost 150 yards.

It's "the narrative" on Josh Allen that must be brought up at every opportunity. Truthfully, he'll probably never escape it unless he has a season of 70%. Even within games, that one pass out of 10 that isn't exactly in the right spot will inevitably lead to a comment by the announcer or analyst that "Josh's inaccuracy showed up on that throw." We'll just have to live with it for (hopefully) the next 15 years.

I don't think McD allows this team to become "overconfident" -- they celebrated a W last night but there is much to clean up. The good news is that the Giants' defense looks absolutely awful. Great opportunity to start off the season with two road wins before playing 5 of 6 at The Cap.

Read Vic Carucci's column this morning. I almost punched the screen.

I haven't read this entire thread. I will say that at no time during the game did I think Josh looked "bad." He got lucky on a couple of throws that could have been intercepted but he was also very unlucky on three of the four turnovers, so that balances out over the course of a game. The Jets literally got every bounce in the first half. Let's remember that the Jets have very good players on defense, and Gregggggg Williams does have at least some idea of how to confuse a young QB. The bottom line is that Allen led a 16-pt. comeback on the road by playing extremely well late. Isn't that what we always have wanted; a QB who will make the plays in the 4th quarter to win games? Rookie Josh probably still throws the 3rd-and-4 pass to Smoke "the way it was drawn up" and the pass is broken up. 2nd year Josh recognized the tight coverage, looked off the safety, and threw a back-shoulder toss resulting in the game winning play. Even a 65% completion day isn't stopping the media from continuing to call him "inaccurate" and that's a shame. Imagine what we would be saying if Josh had played like Darnold yesterday?

Every scoring play is reviewed (and this was as well). A challenge was not needed.

Bills (1-0) at Jets (0-1) Postgame thread

No. This is the wrong take. Both serve their purpose. I'm sure Singletary will get lots of action, which is well deserved. -

I'm glad you included this point because it was RIDICULOUS how the Jets got every bounce. And still they were only up 6-0 at halftime. If you step back and look at the stats and flow of this game without seeing the turnover figure you'd have thought the Bills won by 10+. They outplayed the Jets and overcame a good bit of misfortune to pull out the win. -

Has anyone told @C.Biscuit97 that Jerry Hughes had 1.5 sacks today? I mean, I know he's overpaid and all but I think that was a decent game. -
I don't think it's too soon. In one half of play Singletary showed us exactly why they felt comfortable releasing Shady for another roster spot.

I'm sure ScottLaw will be around soon with some explanations for why the Jets gave it away and the Bills didn't deserve it. -

Gregg Williams ready to shock the league with Jets' pass rush
eball replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wait, you're telling me that Gregggggg Williams is being obnoxiously overconfident in front of the media? That confirms it -- it's a typical day. -
Antonio Brown RELEASED, signed by PATS

I read somewhere that Mayock would not agree to be "mic'd up" during filming. -

Can't wait to see who takes a chance on him now. Any team would be stupid to give him anything more than a one-year "prove it" deal. -
I see lots of handoffs and quick passes in Daboll's 1st half gameplan tomorrow. Don't give Gregggggg's blitzes a chance to get to Josh and after the running game and short passing game slow them down, play-action in the 2nd half could lead to some big plays.

Interview with Beane - his McCoy explanation
eball replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, I believe you're onto something here. Most of us accurately predicted that Peterman would fall on his face and wanted Josh to "win" the job in the worst way. Beane was doing what he needed to do to try and get fans enthused about the season. He, the coaches, and the players knew Josh wasn't really "ready" yet, and we saw that in his first stint as a starter. By coming back from injury and playing at a higher level Josh earned the trust and confidence of his teammates and coaches but was still obviously a work in progress. This year Beane doesn't really need to heap praise upon Josh and if he did I think it would feel misplaced because we as fans haven't seen Josh take that "next step" yet. We've heard the talk of his work ethic, leadership, and how "it's his team now" but we all are holding our collective breaths until the real games begin. Beane is doing the right thing (I think) by recognizing that.
