  1. I've heard it emphatically stated on this board that the Bills have no WRs on their roster who could really be considered #1s. So take your Smokeshow elsewhere.
  2. That's old school thinking. Nothing innovative ever came from someone saying, "we'll do it this way because that's how everybody else does it." Edit: and you do realize that whether it was because of injury or not, all of these guys played with each other in different combinations all spring and summer long?
  3. Teams have rotated D-linemen to keep them fresh for decades. Obviously you're not going to telegraph your play-calling by sending in the same OL replacement for the same play. If you've got 7 high quality O-linemen on your roster and can rotate them to keep them fresher/healthier, why not do it?
  4. If McD suggested it then we know it's doomed for failure. Everybody knows McD is clueless about offense and just wants to Jauron-ball his way through the season. He's never had an innovative offensive thought in his life. I'm so done with this team.
  5. It's unfortunate that some are twisting my comments to suggest I think Goff is a bad or average QB. I don't. But I believe McVay is somewhat unprecedented in terms of how he has impacted Goff's development and that deserves mention. Without McVay I don't think we're talking about Goff in the same light.
  6. Hoyer, Kaep, Brissett from top to bottom (stats). Yeah, it's weird.
  7. Gunner, of course the QB still has to execute, but there's no question he's getting a lot better info to help him than most QBs walking up to the line. It is what it is -- Goff has the benefit of McVay. I think Goff's success is certainly tied to that relationship, and there's nothing wrong with that, but we also shouldn't ignore it.
  8. I didn't complain about Goff's contract so I don't understand the point of the question. I also didn't say Goff "sucks" or "doesn't deserve to get paid" -- I asked a question about the value of having a coach in your ear reading the defense for you pre-snap, which is exactly what McVay is doing for Goff.
  9. I'm curious what style of football you think should be played when your team is notably less talented than your opponent?
  10. Do you agree or disagree that Goff has been helped immensely by having McVay in his ear calling the defense just before the microphone goes off? And this habit of saying QBs alone "win" or "lose" games is well past its prime. Goff has played very well in McVay's system and when teams took away that little "in your ear" advantage his results were, shall we say, less impressive. It's a great contract for Goff and if he and McVay stay tied together I'm sure he'll continue to put up "impressive" numbers, but at some point he's going to need to be able to do it on his own.
  11. I think it's clear his teammates believe in him and don't find him to be fake/phony or entitled in the slightest sense. That's awesome.
  12. I don't hate on Whaley, I just question (in retrospect) his method of "team building." The trade to acquire Sammy was a poor decision, as was paying Dareus. And as much as I loved Shady while he was here, I can certainly understand those who argue spending that kind of money on a RB in this day and age was foolhardy. I wouldn't quite call his teams "loaded" but the roster in 2015 was playoff-worthy.
  13. I thought everybody knew that the correct pronunciation of Rob Johnson is "sack magnet."
  14. This is the sort of comment I'd expect to hear from Doug Whaley. That's all he wanted to do -- add splash. The defense is full of "explosive, game-changing" players. Hughes, Oliver, Edmunds, Milano, White, Hyde, Poyer. Sure, the offense doesn't have big names but that doesn't mean they aren't potentially explosive. Brown makes explosive plays. Singletary's explosiveness jumps off his tape. Beasley is "explosive" in the slot. And let's not forget the most important piece -- Josh Allen. He has already shown explosiveness and the ability to take a game over. If he takes the next step comments like this will disappear. If the biggest thing Bills fans need to worry about is that nobody knows the names of their players (yet), we're not in bad shape.
  15. With all due respect, @Shaw66, this retort is even better than your original post.
  16. I'm sure there is a statistic out there that compares the probability of making the playoffs when a team starts 1-0 vs. 0-1, and I'm willing to bet one is significantly better than the other. So there's that. The Bills' road schedule this season is pretty tough. Outside the division they are at the Giants, Cowboys, Titans, Browns, and Steelers. For them to be thinking playoffs they probably need to win at least three road games, so if you look at it from that perspective where are those wins going to come? The Dolphins are one. Then, they probably have to win two out of the four games vs. the Jets, Giants, Browns, and Titans -- I'm chalking up the Pats***, Cowboys, and Steelers as losses for the sake of this discussion. If the Bills lose W1 to the Jets they have suddenly dug themselves a hole that seems much deeper than if the loss came to a non-conference opponent or traditional powerhouse. So, for the reasons noted above, I think this is a particularly important game for Buffalo.
  17. This cracked me up as I was watching (and before I saw your comment). I was like...what? "Great scheme by Williams here as the Jets hold the Saints to a 20-yard gain and a first down. It could have been much worse."
  18. I think the odds of this happening are about 50-1. I agree with you that there's a melancholy feeling about Shady being released -- particularly since he seems to have been genuinely excited about the OL acquisitions and the upcoming season -- but at 6M with a reduced workload ahead the Bills avoided a big potential headache.
  19. There's a great article over at The Athletic about the state of the Bills' OL. It was a real eye-opener to read the current status of players the Bills opened with in 2018 on their OL. I think most of them are currently unsigned. It's literally night and day going into this season.
  20. Of course you were, Scott. Of course you were. Don’t ever change, baby.
  21. Fug it, guys. This is going to be the coming out party for YOUR 2019 BUFFALO BILLS. Everyone "scared" by the Jets' offense and their overrated coaching staff will have their fears put to rest. Darnold is a nice player but he's going to have Ed Oliver in his grill from the get go. Bell doesn't realize how good he had it in Pittsburgh...no dancing around waiting for holes to open here. Bills win in a game that is not as close as the final score indicates...Buffalo 23, New Jersey (A) 13.
  22. The worst (or best) part was the dude trying to keep talking like nothing had just happened. Geez.
  23. Utter balderdash.
  24. Really classy statement from Shady. Good luck to him -- as best as his interests do not conflict with our interests.
  25. Just End The Season
