Allen already a factor in QB race ?
DefenseWins replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd much rather have a QB on my team who has had a few shoulder injuries over his career than a QB who had 2 concussions AND shoulder surgery in 2016 (surgery was on Rosens throwing shoulder) -
Allen already a factor in QB race ?
DefenseWins replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So far the news on Allen has been encouraging. Good! But let's remember that Kelly had played two seasons in the USFL before coming here and his first couple seasons here were nothing really special though we saw glimpses of what he would ultimately achieve here. So let's all sit back and not expect too much too soon from the kid. -
[edited title] Robert Foster, UDFA - Roster shot?
DefenseWins replied to Bronxbomber21's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think that anyone other than Benjamin is a true lock to make this team. What Zay Jones has going for him right now is a relatively high dead cap hit if released. ($3,076,264) Other than that I think it's strictly who shows the most in camp and in the preseason games. (and obviously injuries) It goes without saying that playing and contributing on special teams will enhance the chances of that player making the team as well. -

I changed my mind: OJ didn’t do it

If Shady had nothing to do with it shouldn't he surrender his cell phone to police to cooperate with their investigation? Or are we going to see a -Bradylike- destruction of his cellphone in the near future? -
LeSean McCoy allegations
DefenseWins replied to FeelingOnYouboty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
“The assailant demanded specific items of jewelry that had been previously gifted to Ms. Cordon by Mr. McCoy, which Mr. McCoy had requested back on many occasions,” the statement from the attorney explains. “In fact, after Ms. Cordon refused to return her jewelry gifts to Mr. McCoy, he would often suggest to Ms. Cordon that she could be robbed because the jewelry was expensive.” Although the statement apparently doesn’t come out and say it, the implication is inescapable: The lawyer believes McCoy orchestrated the invasion of his home and the ensuing robbery of and attack on Cordon. If that’s true, McCoy likely has played his last down of NFL football. -

how is Josh Allen doing so far?
DefenseWins replied to Rockee96's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is some good discussion here about rookie QB's and the differences between college football and the NFL... -
https://www.playerprofiler.com/nfl/ej-manuel/ Haven't seen this before... Notice the throwing velocity score and the wonderlic score for EJ... I think Allen has significantly more velocity on his throws and his wonderlic score I believe was significantly higher as well in relation to EJ's... Not sure how you compare the program at Wyoming to FSU in terms of coaching prep and the quality of the players around them either... Bottom Line = I'll be content to wait and see Allen play in preseason at least before making any judgements on him. I am cautiously optimistic though.

The best part of both these draft selections is that in the process of getting there the Bills were able to unload players who weren't in their future plans (TT and Glenn in particular) acquiring useful draft picks AND cutting salary at the same time. Having what the Bills hope turns out to be a Big Ben QB in Allen and a Keuchly type MLB in Edmunds and still have all their 2019 picks and increased salary cap space in 2019 is WIN-WIN all the way around IMHO...

Can't we all just "Get Along"?

Josh Rosen already impressing in Arizona.
DefenseWins replied to Klaista2k's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I just wanna reiterate what I said several times before the NFL Draft. I believe that all 4 of the top rated QB's in this most recent draft will have good careers. (barring injury of course) These are 4 up and coming players who had solid college careers. They are all obviously talented QB's. It should be interesting to follow their respective careers as the future unfolds. Hopefully, Rosen can avoid future concussions. -

Maybe cause it's a SLOW news/sports week... As far as I know you don't win "extra points" for anything done during OTA's... BORING! -
Incognito's Retirement? [update: Now Released]
DefenseWins replied to Spiderweb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And who else is going to pay a 30yr old rb $9million bucks?? The Bills are all about winning in the future with Josh Allen. That's what this team is building towards. -

I highly doubt that Jerry Hughes is going to throw a tantrum with the terms of his current contract as they currently are. A much more real situation with him however, is likely to occur next year, if he doesn't have a really good 2018 season. His dead cap hit next year will only be $2,900,000. At this point the onus is clearly on him to produce big if he expects to keep his job in 2019. He has a cap hit for 2019 of $10,400,000. I hardly think that McCoy will do this based on his contract situation with the Bills either (see my comment re: Jerry Hughes - Their contract situations are pretty similar actually. Both need to have really good 2018 seasons or they will not be here in 2019) -
Start Allen from Day 1/ QB competition
DefenseWins replied to BuffaloBud420's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Aren't we jumping the gun just a bit here? Can't we wait and see how things go in mini camp and training camp before making any of these decisions? Between McCarron and Peterman I don't see the need (at least at this point) to be making ANY hard and fast decisions of this kind. I don't care what the other teams with rookie QB's are gonna do. I think that the 1st order of business is getting him signed and into camp. -
The only part of all this that makes little sense to me is WTH did Cleveland take Ward instead of Chubb? Yeah, I know "because after all - they're Cleveland"... I guess Cleveland didn't pay much attention to the fact that the Bills were able to draft a quality CB last year so late in the 1st round. I really think they will come to regret NOT drafting Chubb. Also, all I have heard is that Cleveland liked both Mayfield and Allen at #1. So basically nobody really was thrilled with Rosen. Even Arizona valued Allen over Rosen. I wonder if it was the concussions or the shoulder injury mentioned earlier in this thread or his attitude displayed in pre-draft visits... I still think that barring injury all 4 QB's will have solid careers... We'll see how things pan out...

If AJ McCarron plays great
DefenseWins replied to Kingston Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Would someone here like to define the difference between playing "well" "great" and "outstanding"? As a frame of reference how much were the Eagles asking for Nick Foles? So whether it is "Peterman the Great" or "Miraculous McCarron" would the Bills not be entitled to the same for whichever one of these guys plays "great" or "outstanding"? -
Isn't the real question here whether or not the Bills should have traded 3 #1 picks (12, 22 and 2019 #1) for Darnold vs trading 12, and two 2nd's from this years draft for Josh Allen and Edmunds? Is Darnold really worth that? Is Darnold significantly less risky than Allen? Can any of us honestly say that we know that at this point in time? I have to assume for now at least, that Beane has "nailed it". I think he has earned that much by all the moves he has made since coming here. I remember just a short time ago people on this site were praising Beane for getting pick #65 for Tyrod from Cleveland and now some people here think they are a better judge of talent than Beane? Really??
-
What makes you think that Allen won't get his "red shirt year"? All Beane has said is that IF he win's the job then he wins it. As I see things, AJ should have a built-in advantage of having been through 4 years of training camps/offseasons, in addition to learning from Dalton over the past 4 regular seasons. He has no excuses for not being the starter on opening day. The earliest Allen gets on the field (barring injuries) should be after the bye week. If AJ has the team playing .500 football they should be in playoff contention at that point and would be unlikely to make a QB change under those conditions. Remember that this team should be quite strong defensively and if Shady can stay healthy they should have a good running game which means less need to throw the football. I am confident that McD is not going to throw Allen to the wolves. There is no need to do that at this point.

Bills Traded Up to 7 to Select Josh Allen

Bills officially ON THE CLOCK!
