Having him as your top QB doesn't necessarily mean you think he's great. It could just mean that you're not that high on Murray & Haskins.

Tyreek Hill Battery & Child abuse thread
Rob's House replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think he should be out of the league or, at the very least, the AFC. Unless of course the Bills acquire him, in which case I'm open to the notion that this is all a big misunderstanding. -

My preference would be an elite prospect on the DL ap 9, but there's a decent chance all the blue chippers will be gone by then. If Hockenson is as good as advertised he'd be a great pick. Sure, a lot of good TEs come from the mid rounds, but that's true of most positions, and plenty of mediocre TEs come in those rounds too - we've had a few of them. Guys like Gronk & Kelce went later, but if teams redrafted knowing how their careers would go neither would have made it out of the top 10. A smart, shifty, athletic TE with good hands and superior blocking ability helps the offense in a lot of ways. I'll be happy if he's the pick.

Matt Miller says the Bills are targeting Ed Oliver at 9
Rob's House replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've seen a fair amount of speculation in the last week or so that his stock is a lot higher among NFL teams than the media & that he'll come off the board earlier than projected. -
I see Dan Godsil out of Indiana going a lot earlier than projected. Franchise long snappers don't grow on trees.

Kraft Prosecution Must Be a Patriots Hater !!
Rob's House replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is awful. Anyone who truly supports what the prosecutor is trying to do here is a far bigger piece of ***** than Kraft could ever hope to be. -
And sometimes the ones that do end up with the optimistic splash turn out to be duds. The fan consensus was that Lawson, Ragland, & Washington was a draft for the ages. We see how that turned out.

This one's interesting. I don't know of any precedent on point, but I would think you could argue one has a reasonable expectation of privacy in a private room where people are typically in a state of undress. If I planted a camera in that room I would be arrested (at least in some states). It seems reasonable that the surveillance tape would be deemed illegal. Should make for an interesting argument.

It's too bad these aren't AFC teams, because this is a lose/lose proposition. If they make the trade the Giants get a franchise QB, but they have to pay him top dollar & trade away the picks they could have used to improve their ***** roster with affordable top talent. Seattle gets great picks & cap space, but loses a proven franchise QB that may prove difficult to replace. Odds are this ends poorly for both of them.

Tyree worked out for bills (Edit: SIGNED as UDFA)
Rob's House replied to *******'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
PFF superlatives has him going undrafted despite having the strongest arm in the class, good size, and good speed. That doesn't speak well for the rest of his game. -
***** em. Keep posting.

Based on who's available I'd prefer one of the top defensive linemen. I'd prefer an edge rusher, but if BPA is a DT, so be it. If I thought the next Randy Moss or Jason Peters were available I'd be fine with offense, but I wouldn't pass on someone I thought could be the next Dwight Freeney or Vince Wilfork for a guy who looks to be the next Michael Crabtree or DJ Fluker. A star player who can disrupt the opposing offense does more to help you win than a decent receiver or OT.
-
You say you're all for BPA, but do you mean it?
Rob's House replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You may have 2 CBs ranked differently depending on whether you play more press-man or zone. You may rank 2 edge rushers differently depending on whether you run a 3-4 or a 4-3. -

I define it as the player you think would contribute the most value to your team without regard to roster needs. Factors considered include raw talent, motor, scheme fit, intelligence, personality, and position value. -
The deep pass sets up the short-medium game. When the defense has to respect the deep ball on both sides of the field they can't sit on the medium routes or stack the box. It's easier to get open with the safeties deep and the corners on their heels. The deep routes also clear out the defense, opening up space for your underneath guys to work. You can only cover those guys for so long. The threat of Allen's running ability prevents them from selling out the pass rush. The defense has to blitz or play contain, lest they watch Allen go streaking down the field. Prioritizing pass blocking compromises the power run game, but it sets up draw plays, and Allen's ability to run allows you to use misdirection very effectively. Plus, they can't sell out the run because of the deep threat. Add to that, good pass blocking creates running opportunities for Allen when the coverage holds up. The Bills have employed a strategy that attempts to accomplish what you suggest by designing the team so as to take advantage of Allen's strengths.

It seems the FO has already done most of what OP is calling for. They've built the offense to Josh Allen's strengths. It's custom fit for a big, raw, power running QB with a monster arm. They have 2 legitimate deep speed WRs. Deep routes take time to develop. That's why the Oline was rebuilt with a strong eye toward pass protection. Most of the OL they signed excel in that department. When you have time for the play to develop, deep speed WRs on both sides of the field, and a QB with a cannon for an arm, the defense has to respect the deep ball and gets stretched out. That leaves a lot of green for a QB like Allen to rip big runs. If they spy him he has Beasley working the slot, and pass-catching TEs & RBs to exploit the holes that creates in the coverage The overall level of talent leaves room for improvement, but the design is perfect for Allen's skill set. And although we could benefit from more talent on offense, there are elite defensive prospects at the top of this draft. I'd much rather get a pro-bowl pass rusher or shutdown corner who can dominate for the next 10 years than a pretty good offensive player who fills a perceived need.
-
Unless they really see Haskins as their franchise QB of the future they should pass. Drafting the wrong QB in the top 10 can set the franchise back, not to mention missing a shot at a difference maker. I don't recall there being a lot of enthusiasm around this guy until the end of the season, and then it seemed his ascendence was less about being a blue chip prospect than being the best of a mediocre group. I'd rather go w/ a journeyman than draft EJ b/c you "need" a QB.
-
You need talent, but most teams have that. What often separates the top teams from the pack is having guys whose talents fit the team's strategy & who play well together. Based on their approach thus far I think they're looking for the most talented players that fit their vision & will mesh well with the rest of the team, wrt both skill set & personality. For example, I doubt they'd draft Greedy Williams even if he were the most talented option because a press/man CB isn't a good fit on this D. Similarly, I doubt they'd burn a high pick on someone they thought might lack motivation or cause problems in the locker room.

What the "New Green Deal" Solutions Mean For Us
Rob's House replied to Nanker's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I think it's clear, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that none of these people believe in the global warming hype. They may believe it in some abstract sense, but if they truly believed that we faced impending doom if we didn't immediately reduce carbon emissions, they would never go about it this way. -

From the WSJ editors: “Isn’t democracy great? Only in Congress could a political party introduce legislation with great media fanfare, then vote against it and blame the other side for cynicism.” https://t.co/YxchgCtX2H
