  1. The anthem, the flags and flyovers... it’s all political display. I think he’s refering to fan support.
  2. Hes done a ton, and relatively quietly, in his free time. Whether or not you agree with his stance I think it’s unfair to act like it’s a hollow look at me position.
  3. Not that it matters in the legal case but didn’t he previously say he would stand if signed?
  4. “You two are gay together” ”you two totally hook up” ”are you two going to wear matching outfits” “how dare anyone think that my last comment was inappropriate” Again, I don’t care, and i wouldn’t have commented if not for your lame defense if it - ultimately it reflects on you not me when you’ve made those comments. But even if last nights was just a bff joke you can’t be shocked someone would think otherwise after you’ve made the other comments previously. It takes the smallest amount of self awareness, common sense and owning of mistakes to understand that... but we all have things we struggle with. In ritchies case, it’s erratic behavior for some 30 years. I know you are all in on any possible discussion of that being wild accusations, misunderstandings or others faults. Firing his agent via twitter was nonsensical. His retirement is part of his time with us and it was spotty. He apologized for the Jax incident that you claim never happened. He’s not been his worst here but he’s not been perfect. And im not insisting the rookie start, but... I hope he’s our best qb and I hope our best qb starts. You are the one saying bubble wrap him this year because a guard retired. Now that it’s been pointed out as ridiculous it’s shifted to claiming im insisting you must start the rookie immediately instead of just owning that “don’t play the rookie” is a ridiculous stance in the wake of this announcement.
  5. If the president doesn’t interject it likely disappears. Remember when no franchise could possibly handle the media pressure of signing Ritchie incognito? It’s pretty much always exaggerated
  6. You do get that this goes beyond that and would be akin to insisting on wearing an NRA shirt and carrying that gun at work, right? i think most are being highly dramatic in how they are reacting to the act of kneeling... people act like it’s the highest treason they have ever seen, which is silly. but it’s actions in the workplace and not simply a thought crime here. He is in his workplace, in uniform and making political statements. If your checkout person at the grocery store lectures everyone about how great Trump is, I’d venture he might get fired and struggle to get an interview too.
  7. Because some teams are dumb. I’m not sure whether that’s the ones that want him at wr or the ones wanting him at qb. also, some of those teams may have just wanted to see a reaction.
  8. The flip side being that if 4 guys go in the top 5 and we don’t get one.... are we better off taking a guy like Rudolph? As a plan b (or maybe c, d or e) - grabbing roquan at 12, trading back from 22 a little to add assets, and going foles late 1, and then having 5 day 2 picks to address WR, OL and a backup RB wouldn’t upset me too much. I’d be disappointed by not getting a top prospect but happier than getting a second tier rookie
  9. I think it’s a little of both sides- yes qb rich but also a little of a frenzy in the speculation. A comparable might even be free agency this year. One of the larger qb classes of recent memory hitting the market and a ton projected at starter money... but as holes start filling sometimes you see a race to grab the last guy or sometimes you get him on the cheap ala aj McCarron. Mason or Lamar might be AJ in this story and go second round instead of top 16
  10. The writer did an ok compiling opinions and benchmarking scores in various systems... but didn’t show a particularly great grasp of any of it himself. the low scores are a red flag no doubt. But if you can identify an issue or two and address it (say poor coaching missed a minor tweak that would considerably change his accuracy, or 1-2 specific throws that they leaned on were among his worst) that can go a long way in throwing the number out. Next up is that analytics or cutting edge data doesn’t have to be JUST on field stats. Cleveland could have their own data set that includes anything from physical attributes (hand size, height) to measurables in drills (velocity, various measures of touch on his throws) to GPA and include some of those advanced stats still. Last - that he scores low could be a huge issue with him.... or the tests. Based on the somewhat limited scope and sample size and ever changing nature of the game... these may have some biases built in. Creating something that explains the past few classes pretty well may build in a measure that accounts for a coincidence. It would look better on paper but maybe not be the best future prediction. Long story short: a handful of stats guys came up with and he scored low along with some busts gives a Little worry to me as a fan... but if any of these were fool proof you could also simply fire the scouting department.
  11. Appears to be rank, not round. Unless they all conveniently have 1 guy per round
  12. You can play that card if you want, but it’s definitely more than once you’ve resorted to petty homophobic insults. It doesn’t particularly bother me but it’s pretty lame to pull the “you read other stuff into it” after you’ve explicitly made the comments previously. as for Ritchie- I was skeptical of the signing. In the end it looks like we got most of the good and some of the bad. He was a quality lineman and inconsistent person. Generally we got his best play in his career and least drama. I’ll take the 3 years of play and deal with looking for a guard last minute now. But I’m not benching players out of fear that we don’t have him to protect them.
  13. I was all about Foster after the trade back.... ouch.... it’s always a shame to see someone waste such an opportunity. Even worse to see a guy do the things he’s been doing.
  14. Theres a difference between it being easy to fully replace him, and disagreeing that you need to bench your qb because you lost a guard.... we likely won’t gave a guy as good but the best players still play
  15. I cant see them taking a guy with so little upside at 12. Jackson at least could be special- guys like Rudolph go day 2 regularly
  16. I think we see a little more slide out of the mid tier QBs. After so many free agents and guys off the board - I’d be surprised to see 6 in the first 16. Mason as the 6th qb going top 16 seems a real long shot. I could see 4 top 10, 1 more in the first and then none til mid 2nd possibly as a curveball at the opposite end of this. were starting to see people pencil in A LOT of guys to teams with starters in the first...odds are teams like the ravens, saints, patriots, (dolphins) etc... don’t grab a guy until day two
  17. Have you produced your witnesses yet?
  18. Its largely my belief, but given his history I hate to completely rule out other options. It’s possible he could’ve actually been acting in a way that makes even less sense though. Hard to assume the logical choice with him.
  19. It’s hard to keep track of the details of his made up story. notice others in this thread are much more consistent ::cough::jauronimo::cough::
  20. I get curious — Cleveland will be a chance to see one of the other rookie QBs, for instance
  21. Id bet jauronimo could too, if there were any survivors. But please do bring your witnesses!
  22. Honestly, I believe his more than yours
  23. Right. And it seemed that he spoke to king first and over the course of this unfolding publicly the story coming from Ritchie’s mouth changed. Im not sure where the disconnect is here.... there are only a few options: 1) docs say he can’t play, and in an emotional state he pitches a fit about how he’d play for more then backs off it when he chills out and realizes the risk. 2) he was upset about the deal, fired his agent and tried to push the bills into the corner and when they didn’t back down he overstated the health concerns to try to save face. 3) the reporters straight up lied about his quotes. Im having a hard time buying that two weeks ago he got the report, decided to (for some reason publicly) fire his agent in advance of retiring, and has been quietly taking a measured approach about when and how to announce it. Given his lack of impulse control long term, his erratic behavior lately and just the generally storyline it seems almost 100% 1 or 2
  24. The early versions of the story came with both “at the right price” and “they have til Sunday” attached. It seems like he did not think through that saying that publicly would probably end his career.... im guessing he soon received a “yea, you aren’t getting more money” and that’s when he tweeted he was done. The major points were reported- but that the bills called his bluff and he followed through on the threat is my speculation. It’s possible that docs said he should quit and he just flailed around dramatically and that included some sketchy comments on his part in response to the bad news from the docs
