They could be all in on trading up and still get stuck without a partner. Or the QBs could slide more than expected and allow them to keep 22. it would be irresponsible to only look at the top QBs even if they are your plan

He’s turning 41 in camp - obviously it’s near. that said - I can’t imagine him walking this late in the offseason. It would have to tarnish his reputation to pull the rug out from under the team days before the draft instead of having the discussion in February

The beauty of speed outside (and all over really) is separation— TT wasn’t throwing tight windows but he wasn’t terrible if there were enough guys putting pressure on the defense. With all those and his own legs he wouldn’t need to be a great passer to lead an explosive offense. Can TT be a franchise qb and can TT be a part of an offense that puts up points can be two different questions.

It’s no doubt a factor. its also why we shouldn’t fret that missing will set us back 20 years like some seem to fear. Even with a trade up we will have a pretty full set of picks to make and we can take another swing at qb pretty darn soon if it’s a miss. Because we spend less cash on him we will likely have to spend a bit more in picks but by essentially trading lattimore for Tre white and a first we got a painless way to do make up a big part of the draft equity

He’s a schmuck but he’s talented. If we could’ve kept a core of Sammy, Percy, clay and McCoy together and healthy for a season — that offense could’ve been pretty exciting. edit to add — roll in that our depth at wr was woods and Goodwin.... amazing how quick these units change. Not just personnel but the complete and total skill sets

Which do you swap? I only have mayfield higher than Rosen because I think they are more likely to land at 4-6 than 2

40 - mayfield 30 - rosen 20 - allen 5 - Jackson 5 - field i think they aggressively try to move up, it’ll be a challenge to get to the top but settle for a physical specimen if they can’t get a top tier passer. I don’t think they get a low ceiling high floor guy. It’ll be high ceiling passer or high ceiling athlete as plan b

Being able to move in the pocket sure can help. Because of his height he will have to be a little better at another skill to break even with a guy with the gift of being a little taller. thats all.

We have more (volume) premium picks than anyone. Even after a monster trade we are simply back to average volume of picks

Thats the thing- I even messed up my advice in saying skip instead of advising to guess wildly when you don’t know. You still doubled your score If you knew this was part of a major job interview and you didn’t take a few minutes to learn the basics, that’s as much a red flag as anything else. If a guys sharp and scores in the teens on his official test- is he the type that’s first in and last out studying film? At that point I’d rather learn the guys dyslexic or has something we can learn to accommodate than that he’s too lazy or out of touch to spend 30 mins prepping on the basics of a test

Just skip the ones you don’t immediately know and don’t even worry about the going back factor. I bet your score goes up if you pace yourself properly for seeing close to 50 questions, but only answer those you immediately know or can get with quick work (under about 10-15 seconds). Ultimately getting 20 out of 47 is MUCH better than 13/15 (or even 15/15)

Or online iq tests aim to be complimentary so you’ll share results and friends click if a great test taker why are you spending a minute per question on a tightly timed test? You should fly through what you quickly know instead of bogging down in working things out. It’s the easiest advice possible and why I said with minutes of coaching there’s little excuse for a college kid to be in the teens

There’s a pretty wide gap between nailing it and what he got. As a college kid it should be a cake walk to land in the 20s with just minutes of prep work with your agent. That said- if he slides far enough and we didn’t burn picks trading up.... I wouldn’t haaaate taking someone like mayfield around 12 or a minor trade up, and then a guy like Jackson later day two. If talking about dedicating serious picks to get to 2 and that doesn’t work maybe taking two swings that each cost less could be an option just to spitball how you could see things land in that scenario: 12 & a 3rd — mayfield 22– linebacker 2 — wr 2 — if a qb like Jackson is sliding because there were so many free agents and high picks maybe I think about it 3- RB Roll into the season with mayfield and McCarron fighting and let Jackson be very low pressure with peterman on the practice squad at that point. I’m not arguing it’s likely but sometimes QBs go slower than expected when fans love them more than GMs really do. It can be hard to tell.

Yup — if you are making a mock Darnold is the safe pick, Allen is the upside pick rosen tends to be the guy that everyone likes a lot but no ones absolutely in love with. Plus he hasn’t been linked to the Browns via rumors like the other two.

If I recall correctly a 20 is average andslots up to about 100 on an iq test, and every 5 points on the wonderlic really roughly slots up to 10 iq points for bar napkin purposes. frankly, under 10 is in the “are they literate” category as you are getting into just guessing being about the same on average. I don’t mean that as a joke or insult but you have to have a real talk at that point to see if they guy needs special accommodations to learn the system or is just that level of “I don’t care” on a related note, I think teams would be wise to employ some sort of special education person on their staff to help work with guys and identify opportunities for how to better teach some of them. I don’t think an old school coach is the best candidate to come up with a learning plan for someone that might have a disability.

Ultimately it’s not thaaaat different than the 40 or bench or... 1) different positions will curve differently for benchmarks. Guys like your qb or mlb will have higher expectations than a DT 2) there’s a range of “cool, no question he can do the job.” Your wide out running a 4.45, is like you qb high 20s 3) a wr running a 4.3 is fantastic but doesn’t mean he will succeed just like a 47 on the wonderlic doesnt. It’s a nice piece of a picture but the rest has to still come together 4) a 4.6 doesn’t mean you can’t be a WR but I sure want to take another look at the film, maybe ask how you felt about the time, and generally check out the red flag, just like a 17 wonderlic at qb 5) a 4.9 at wr is probably a dealbreaker unless you catch that they tripped. Likewise a 3 on the wonderlic is probably a dealbreaker unless they took it with the flu, have a learning disability and also didn’t have their reading glasses. Its not worthless, but on its own doesn’t tell enough

Or they’ll meet with them all as much as possible as including our own pick our division will have at least 1 if not 2-3 additional of the top 6 or so QBs potentially joining teams. If he ends up on the Jets, it’s great insight, for instance. And the dolphins and pats might also be looking at second tier guys we get linked to. Thats also not a qb.

You think that’s the price to get to 6? That’s probably 2 and maybe 1 if the Browns think their qb lasts til 4

To be fair, we aren’t some totally talentless black hole if we trade away an extra first and extra second and only have normal picks plus some extras late
