  1. I knew someone would get hung up on that phrasing but.... I was referring to the prototype and design of an offense. you only need a semi mobile guy and allen passes that test was the point. ultimately we are better off with allen not racking up 100 yards. It’s fun and exciting and great to have in your back pocket for the right moment but it’s a symptom of a problem as a week in and out feat. In the end we are going to be most efficient if his legs move the pocket, extend plays and only occasionally steal a few third down conversions or the once in a blue moon designed play to keep a defense honest on options. He far passes that and creates a huge box that the defense has to genuinely cover sideline to sideline and line of scrimmage to 70 yards down field if paired with speed outside.
  2. It’s really the beauty of a big arm, semi mobile qb and lots of speed outside. Honestly, EJ was a whiff but it’s very much the Whaley vision. Goodwin, Sammy, harvin and even clay were the type to put vertical pressure and then a sturdy big qb that can move around a bit ala Big Ben. Extending plays with his legs and stretching with his arm creates so much pressure on a defense that a good back ends up like a knife through butter often. It takes a special qb to take the hits and make the throws though. Truly, if luck came out a year earlier and we ended up with cam instead of dareus- there were a few years there where we might’ve been a VERY good team.
  3. Agreed. Though our franchises predisposition to err in new and spectacular ways worries me quite a bit still.
  4. The flip side is did you expect him to go on tv remorsefully even if genuine about his feelings had the tape not come out?of course he wouldn’t.
  5. With our cap space we aren’t going to net a loss - it’s incredibly unlikely to effect it honestly
  6. Ill keep saying it. Next year is the year we are supposed to be 1-2 pieces away. You arent JUST adding a wr, but talking probably 2 lineman, 2 wr, a tight end, etc... if one of those is an unreasonable deal that’s slated to come off the books in conjunction with Allen getting paid- you are actually doing it right. Could be any number of guys but not unreasonable to look at Julio Theres some leverage as he’d have 2 years 20m left. If you tack on 2 more even very highly paid... that’s what, 4 years 60m to take him into his twilight? To get him to highest paid territory you’d really have to ignore the existing deal completely
  7. Year 2 of the rookie qb is when your window tends to open, and then you have about 3 years to overspend for immediate impact. If you even halfway believe in allen, beane and McD then challenging for the division next year needs to be the expectation i think Julio is a legit maybe if they can work out contract/picks involved in a remotely reasonable way. As a former division foe they are more intimately familiar too.
  8. To be fair, 60% isn’t some magical threshold but it’s typically helpful in success as it’s a pretty low mark. 60% flat would be 30th in the league. Even 65% only gets you to 25th.
  9. Accuracy is such a tough one to discuss on a fan level. So many layers... is the read correct? Ie did both he and receiver forecast the defender the same AND correctly to pick a place to connect. If either get it wrong - a great threw looks erratic easily. He could perfectly hit the dinner plate he targets 40 yards away and get called inaccurate simply by aiming at the wrong plate for instance. Did he expect the wr to be a step slower or did the ball slip a tiny bit? did he misread wind? then you get into footwork, release, arm strength (many of fitzs bad throws were a case of arm strength as much as “accuracy”), trajectory/touch and so on. Right now he’s got to learn a little of all of it (minus the arm strength... )
  10. We’d save 6.5m against the cap, right? Id be down with a mid round pick and a solid free agent at this point if he restructured to a 2 year 10-12m kind of deal then maybe he’s that “free agent” and he gets his last contract
  11. Real talk - we’ve seen a lot of variations but this years “now that we are 3-7....” ones were among my favorite
  12. Without the presence of a receiver on the route, it’s kind of hard to say how accurate it was. Seemed obvious the first (and maybe only) issue was miscommunication and not wild inaccuracy though
  13. To be fair, we haven’t lost thaaaaat many close games this year.
  14. To be fair, the seasons been done. We weren’t going on some 8 game win streak that’s hard for even the best teams to pull off.
  15. Its so odd that they haven’t simply given you that ability, you know, given how you are always right all the time. You could just lock every thread after you post, declaring victory ?
  16. I know it’s crazy in this world where everything has to either be a fan or hate the guy but.... if going off my history you should see I often refer to him as the highest ceiling guy in a couple years but also one of the biggest learning curves. hes a risky pick and I don’t think the bills have done all that they could to properly maximize his odds of success. I don’t think anything insulting or controversial there. dude has run like a gazelle and completed a couple great throws. 4 completions in 45 minutes isn’t sustainable but stealing a win like that as a young guy is great as long as we see some him grow as a passer long term. Which he might, or might not. Again, not seeing an insult or controversy there. I hope we dump every resource we can into maximizing the talent around him on and off the field. I don’t think we came close to doing that last year in advance of getting a guy, or this year. So, no, I don’t think I need to get fitted for a cheerleader outfit but that doesn’t mean I dislike the kid.
  17. The cowboys linebackers played excellent but kamara (even before being knocked silly) seemed a little lethargic and wasn’t as sharp in route running, etc... he’s normally electric but also precise.
  18. When you have 8 completions, “like two poor throws” isn’t great but it’s obviously not as bad as the writer framed either
  19. I mean, my point wasn’t whether or not it’s a thing (for either climate or defense) but the thought process behind the argument being made of “see defense won a game!” Again, sustainable long term super bowl contention versus winning a Thursday night football game are pretty different convos. Ill say I think there’s a shift happening but that doesn’t mean we should field a JV group on defense.
  20. I dont think anyone’s arguing that defense literally can’t win a game so this thread is kind of like your drunk uncle posting a picture of snow to refute climate change. also, in the playoffs, this game would’ve been in New Orleans.
  21. Because their offense is generally as good as any (shorter on weapons outside but experienced great qb) and defense has generally played pretty well. on paper the rush d is a little overrated and pass d underrated due to teams having to pass against them.... but cam Jordan is an elite end and lattimore and excellent corner. Solid talent across the rest of the d line too. they are the team that outclasses most across the board and have done so to a lot of good teams.
  22. Youve seen the last month of them, right? Not just tonight? also they only gave up 13 points tonight, despite not being sharp
  23. I still think they are super bowl favorite
