Important distinction from his post being that he was talking about spikes in locations tying to dates/locations of protests. Anecdotally it makes sense you would see the data bear that out pretty clearly if these were super spreader events.

and I think you nailed it with prioritization of entertainment over so many other things. I’ll again stress I’m no doctor or qualified to make the decision. My commentary is simply watching the issue play out over and over and needing to either learn a lesson in how we move forward, or how we react after we move forward. A couple weeks of tailgating followed by immediate shut downs seems like both the most likely, and worst course of action, right? until we can figure out good measures and good responses- I agree I’m not sure this is the time to die on the hill of drinking beer and bbq’ing in a parking lot even if it’s fun.

define “most” for us here

I agree we need to learn to live with it im not sure tailgating is part of that. Seems just as easy to point at it as a spot that is sacrificed. either way it’s an interesting discussion, but I’m no health expert.

and I know it’s not popular but I’d also guess more cases than given credit for actually traced back to these events If hammer set up a huge screen, for instance, he would certainly be a draw still even for people not attending the game.

different energy level being in a sea of people — though I personally agree with you, especially now

the problem is all those people going back out to grocery stores, and work after. Or the fans being sent home from games and everyone in the stadium losing jobs. if they do it, they will need to make sure it’s a smart set up. I’ve been to events where folks parked every 4th spot, had limited space to stay within, clear walking routes etc.... so it’s not impossible but Steve getting hammered and catching Covid at the tailgate effects a lot of people and our fans don’t have the best reputation for responsible tailgating behavior

And then you see the case count and wonder what everyone must be doing with your characterization

I hear you. Feels like a lot of places that pushed forward took big steps back shortly after. Tailgating seems an obvious red flag event. Not to say impossible but definitely would have worries about quickly losing tailgating and then some (like fans at games when contact tracing comes back to Sunday)

Honestly, I’m not sure it’s worth pushing your luck at this point.

I think it’s probably 6 of one half dozen the other, having been in stadiums that empty. Especially with many being so far away in this scenario -

I can’t make you get your eyes checked but I would suggest it Could be any number. Could be a surprise on his physical. Could be an angry wife. Could be not wanting to move across the country for a new job during the pandemic. Could be he was shocked by how much he disliked the dude at the locker next to him and he said screw it I don’t want to be semi quarantined with strangers I don’t like. -

Bit of a leap there. -
yea, I was ribbing him a bit with the self awareness joke but self awareness when drinking is obviously a bit impaired. It’s a real consideration. And the post does check a couple red flag boxes out of the gate having comments about drinking any time of day, not living a healthy lifestyle possibly (weight comment), his therapist telling him to pull it in, and I think some questions around his social circle if late 50s and sloppy drinking is a common issue for them. all jokes aside, some sober, healthy hobbies might go a long way to balancing out. Go pick up a tennis racket or something, as a suggested idea. It might help with a few things and get you back in balance a bit.
