Saints to start Taysom Hill over Jameis Winston
NoSaint replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
until he throws for 72 yards and 2 picks before being benched at halftime with a -5.5 score. jokes aside it’s quite the spot to have this happen just before fantasy playoffs. If he plays well it’s a huge wildcard. why even play that game though? I could see not naming a starter or lying about it but why would you have him take the snap? Principle? -

I could see him winning the game, for sure though I’m curious if this wakes Atlanta up a little bit. It’s a rivalry game and to have Hill trotted out might be a little extra “oh hell no we aren’t losing this to taysom hill” as silly as that sounds. -

he’s not an average passer and you can no longer be an explosive impact runner once you have to start protecting your shoulder -

you knew his role and position all year. He’s always been a potential qb. Got to stay consistent with his position once people draft him knowing the low expected output but high upside -

having seen all his snaps...this will be Tebow-esque I think. I just can’t see him as that guy unless the goal is bottom out for the next pick. But you wouldn’t play that game in a playoff race. -

high risk high reward. -
yup- a class without a 1st won’t often jump off the page, and with a kicker and running back it should be producing impact out of the gate. the problem is fans always project all the guys to make big steps forward and that’s far from given. a solid rotational end, a rotational rb plus kicker and maybe nickel back wouldn’t be the best ever but wouldn’t be an awful batch for day two and on. Any of them regress (especially epenesa) and it gets rough quick though.

im not arguing the value. I think it was a great move. I’m saying I tend to have discussions about the draft class isolated to the players picked vs where they are picked. because it’s the only apples-apples.
-
my point was he should be, and you are arguing he is 😂
-
that kind of misses the point I was making completely though
-
I get it- I just tend to talk about the draft class as the rookies acquired vs the picks spent on them. Rolling in trades for vets is nice and all but then you have to discuss the FA opportunity cost of not signing a guy at the higher pay rate too. Just oversimplifies the equation to say diggs was better than 22. He should be better because he’s 22 AND whatever the gap between 22s pay and his could’ve produced for the team.
-
wait- are you serious? yup. Solid contributing class. A second round DE isn’t often an instant game changer a 3rd round rb should contribute heavily early a drafted kicker should work like ours has a late DB contributing isn’t terribly rare, hopefully he develops into something.

the only wonder out loud is about what a Mount Rushmore entails. I think of it as both noteworthy but the icon element - so the unknown jazz guy probably isn’t heavily represented in the conversation in that sense. Someone like EVH and Hendrix were both game changers and icons. The average person can’t look at the wall and say who is that, get told the name and again ask who is that, right?
-
that’s a fantastic ideal. And I agree it’s the optimum way for this to have happened decades ago. And there’s a good chance that’s how it’s happening now. I see no indication they are pulling random guys out of a temp agency looking for work after being laid off from their travel agency job. but I think there’s something to be said for putting some light on these breakthroughs and when it’s not going to hurt quality even facilitating them a bit. Because showing people that they have a spot in the role, you increase the potential size of that talent pipeline for years to come.
-
oh yea, if it’s a low pick and a round different for the redskins vs the pats you obviously send him far away.
-
a lot of times you don’t want the energy of a young guy dealing with demotion in the building. At least in a new setting he can come in fired up for a fresh start without all the baggage

Patriots purposely left JC Jackson off of Pro Bowl ballot?

Saints fans are all in on it too -
yea, conceptually there are probably a few question marks that contributed to why we saw a result you never see. in theory you rush Murray from the side Hopkins is on the recently mentioned not diving at him to try to get the sack the coverage shell that you outlined and the actual jump/hit as the final nail in the plays coffin. I know it leaves you prone to other results if you dedicate that much to Hopkins but if you are taking anyone out of that play it’s got to be him. It’s easy to say it’s just great player magic to catch that - and Hopkins deserves a ton of credit- but there are a few things that had to happen to even allow him the opportunity and we allowed them.

Joe B article on the game (Athletic). Fair.

you one hand the tip and it gives your safeties extra leeway on hitting the receiver.a redirected ball going to a redirected wr isn’t getting caught there but he’s not a foot below. he’s 2 inches shorter, 1 inch shorter arms and 3-4 on the vertical. So max 6. if he rises up with one arm theoretically less than that even. Blitz on that side? -
Decline offsetting penalty during Cards game?
NoSaint replied to Jobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I believe this rule assumes both are accepted. -
easier said than done and in that situation it’s chaos but if tre goes up one handed and then either safety takes the stance that an elite corner with position will at least redirect the ball so I’m going the break the guys ribs, or flip him completely I doubt that balls caught.
-
honestly Hyde is probably better off playing through Hopkins body instead of trying to get over him. And poyer does clear out tre. It’s a tough spot though.
-
they definitely can play very physical as an added layer to why I’m not buying the couple inch advantage. Between only needing to get a hand on it, and being able to rough him up there are a lot of plays to be made there. Our guys didn’t make the play today. It happens. Hopefully not often.
