  1. The Bills' run of greatness began just as I was becoming old enough to care about sports. Prior to that, I only remember them being a laughingstock franchise, but technically I was still a fan. I knew Joe Ferguson existed, though I can't say I remember any games prior to the '88 season, nor do I remember Jim Kelly's draft debacle/arrival, as I would have been 6-7 years old at the time and was not yet reading newspapers. I do vaguely remember the cautious optimism that followed the Bills' respectable showing in the '87 strike year. So in 6th grade, I went into the '88 season with the idea that they might actually be good. My first coherent Bills memory was an article in the Rochester D&C following the horrendous 85-86 campaign. They did a spoof on the Bears' Super Bowl Shuffle, called the Stupor Bowl Shuffle. After that, it was the division win and the goalposts coming down, and I definitely remember getting jazzed up for the team at that point. So yeah, I was a fan before the SB runs, but likely became much more of one because of them.
  2. Not this year, apparently, but you never know. It's kind of like taking a generational place kicker early - it's not a sexy pick, but having the best in the league at the position is a lasting luxury. A road-grader Guard can potentially help provide 12-15 years of stability for your superstar QB.
  3. Inflation-proof contract, love it.
  4. If business is business, then Diggs should acknowledge that he signed a CONTRACT to play for $14M per. Every player has to know that salaries will continue to rise the minute they sign, and if they sign for several years, their salary is going to become obsolete at some point. These guys can't complain about being underpaid, because they should have known it would happen. Oh yeah, and he's making enough money for he and his offspring to live lavishly for a long time. So if he wants to get bent out of shape over these huge new deals, then I say send him packing. If you aren't happy making $14M a year while playing on a dominant team with an amazing QB and a great culture, where the fans worship you, then F off. Stop comparing yourself to other WRs; take a step back and look at your life for a minute.
  5. If Tua tries lobbing bombs to Hill the way Mahomes did, his noodle arm is going to get him 30 INTs. That said, the quick slant action will probably give us something to cry about.
  6. AND, there are probably guys on his new team that don't even want to play with him. AND you have legions of fans who will never root for him. I am trying really hard to respect due process of law as far as the allegations go, but holy hell, I don't know how you sign a guy for even the league minimum when these kinds of accusations are hanging over his head. There is at least a legitimate chance he is a full-blown compulsive predator. Why bet the whole team on it?
  7. That is a GREAT question.
  8. This is the stupidest contract in the history of sports. I don't care how good Watson is, how do you guarantee all that money (even WITHOUT all the allegations against him) for a guy who hasn't played in a year? Factor in the legal mess, and it's just a disaster waiting to happen. Glad it wasn't us! I feel so sorry for Cleveland fans.
  9. I don't think it's necessary or even wise to take BPA in the first round. Depending on the depth available at each position, there are likely to be players that can start right away and be potential stars in whatever position your team needs most. Then you can go BPA from there. I think they take a CB. They are short-handed there, and Tre is coming off a serious knee injury - I didn't realize until today that he also tore his meniscus - that's an injury that rarely heals completely and can cause lots of problems down the road.
  10. I would much rather have Miller anyway, not even counting the two draft picks we didn't give up to get him. And Mack is only 1 year younger. Mack is a great athlete, but Miller is that plus a super genius and 2X champ. I would maybe rather have Mack plus an upgraded RB or veteran corner or slot receiver, but Mack over Miller straight up? No way!
  11. Kind of a tool, but he always brought his A game on the field. His will be hard shoes to fill.
  12. Dang, there go all our sweet comp picks.
  13. It seems like there are enough loopholes that a smart GM can put together a pretty stacked team, provided that the ownership is willing to throw away a lot of money at times.
  14. I don't know how any young QB is supposed to step in and look even remotely decent in their first real NFL games. Even the elite draft picks usually look like bums for a while. So I don't know how you determine a guy like Fromm actually stinks until there's a larger sample size.
  15. He's not the best CB in the business, but he stepped up when Tre got hurt, and for the most part, he was a solid to good contributor on a top defense. I hope the Bills brass was prepared for this, because on the surface it doesn't look like a good scenario - and this is not a team that likes to draft for needs. They must like Dane Jackson a lot!
  16. Bummer, he was a real BMF at one point. I wish him all the best.
  17. Good move for Seattle, Wilson is a great QB but they weren't going anywhere without a little rebuild action. Why keep an asset of that magnitude on your team if you aren't winning with him anyway? AFC is beyond loaded with QBs now!
  18. What a shame - Aikman and Buck are terminally boring. I stopped watching the World Series years ago because Joe Buck and Tim McCarver are so lame. I can't understand why MNF, or the NFL for that matter, would want these two stiffs to anchor their flagship program. I don't love Chris Collinsworth's personality, but at least he has one.
  19. Decent game, but it really made me think these two teams were lucky to be there. Lots of mistakes and mediocre play on both sides. Mostly bad throws and drops, plus superstars like Ramsey not playing well at all. Very frustrating to watch; couldn't stop thinking the Bills (or Chiefs or Bucs or Packers) would have won that game by 20. Oh well, they all had their shot and didn't make it. Hats off to Stafford and the Rams, and I'm glad the Bills still have a chance to win a SB before the Bengals.
  20. There is a valid argument that without a consensus QB at #1, it won't cost as much to trade up to the first pick. BUT, why you would trade Rousseau plus very valuable assets for someone who MIGHT, at best, be 10% better than Rousseau, is beyond me.
  21. Dude's not Jason Peters, he has to compete for a starting job like everyone else.
  22. Christian Wade to the Giants, book it.
  23. That was Jim Brown's move - He acted like he might have been hurt after every play, that way if he was actually hurt, nobody would know the difference.
  24. Funny, I never thought of it but not a lot of well-regarded QBs have worn 17. Philip Rivers may be the best, then there's Dave Krieg, Jake Delhomme, Don Meredith, Doug Williams, Steve DeBerg, and Billy Kilmer. Other notables in sport: Wendel Clark, Jari Kurri, Rick Fox (barf), Ilya Kovachuk, Felipe Alou, Chris Mullen, Keith Hernandez, Hondo. But yeah, not a lot of all-time greats in the mix. Hondo and Kurri, then maybe Kovalchuk, Rivers, Alou, Clark, and Mullen if we're ranking. Great opportunity for JA to become the greatest to ever wear the 17! I love obscure jersey numbers.
