This is a hugely interesting debate and one of the few multi-page threads that I read in its entirety. So much goes into scoring with that right player. We've had other threads where we lamented that we didn't pick Mahomes or Russell Wilson. You would have to wonder if they would have become all that in other situations (particularly with the staff we had when Wilson was selected). I've never seen an article that tried to do a comprehensive examination of QB selection model grading all players taken in the last few decades across a composite of physical, mental, emotional, social and so forth. And then testing it out. Would make a hell of a dissertation!

To say nothing of not having a qualified QB coach (David Culley had been a WR coach), nor a veteran in the QB room (Derek Anderson brought in later in season).

Definitely important to stay humble....

Do you think they would be "run by design" if their QBs were Mahomes, Watson, Rodgers or Allen?? Also, I recognize that there are problems on Jets that haven't done Darnold any favors, but he's really done nothing to speak of to help elevate the team in any way. Compare what you saw to Allen's rookie year, where he made lots of mistakes that we don't need to rehash, but also provided instant leadership, credibility to teammates and executed 4th quarter comeback victories.

Amazingly, the Bills could have had 4 of 5 of these, but glad we have Allen now. In 2017, we traded out of Mahomes spot with Watson selected two picks later. In 2012, we trade UP to take TJ Graham, when several on this board thought we would be moving up to take Wilson.

Wrong Logan Thomas. The one being discussed here was a QB through college. He was QB at Virginia Tech after Tyrod left and was drafted as a QB by Cardinals.

Don't want to lose Daboll, but it seems like Dorsey is his natural successor. He's been marinating and I'm sure contributing heavily to this offense for two years. Why would they look elsewhere? Every OC got his first OC job somewhere and this seems like an ideal situation to elevate a smart QB coach to maintain continuity

Allen has become quite good at buying time in the pocket and beyond. There were lots of plays where he was adeptly moving around and especially escaping pressure rolling right. He becomes deadly. So I think Sherman is mostly right, they did get pressure on him, but Allen just handles it until he finds someone. I haven't seen any Next Gen Stats on average time to throw, but Allen has to be near the top of the league in longest time to throw.

...and the OL. Basically it speaks to everyone but Allen. He'd be a crappy QB without all of them

I think i had read a while back that they learned from the famous snow bowl where they happened to be wearing the red uni. They felt the unis made a difference in the bad weather. McD personally makes the call on when they wear them. I would assume they're saving them for games in Dec that may be in poor conditions

I'll always give props to Kiper on this one. I don't know that anyone had Josh mocked #1 overall, other than Kiper. This one of my favorite clips that I bookmark and re-watch periodically from a year and a half ago. However, it now also occurs to me how difficult this all is as he's also quite positive on Darnold who the jury is still out on (being generous)

Now you recognize that our first may be in the high 20s, while the Jets second will be in the low 30s. The typical price for that kind of move in the draft is about a 4th rounder. They may not trade him for that...
