My point is, irrespective of the issues with Araiza, if your alternative is Haack, cutting him and replacing him with equal value off the street in a pinch probably isn't that hard. In addition to the blocked punt in Pittsburg, he was a disaster down the stretch last season.

It's possible that regardless of what was going on with this that they were going to cut Haack. Maybe they have a backup plan at holder and felt that even if they had to jettison Araiza that they could get someone to take 20s to shank punts off the street at any time.

I'm with you on that and have been flamed in the past for stating that I think Levy was overrated. Corey should have had that defense playing much more aggressively and taking the game to opposing offenses, especially when you can fall back on your offense to cover any mistakes. His approach to defense was antiquated and frustrating. Wade Phillips showed what that collection of defensive talent should have played like, only it was 4 years too late.
