  1. Tampa actually did invest a lot of their draft picks and free agency dollars into their defense this past off-season. Surprised they haven't at least looked competent.
  2. In the 2013 draft where Geno Smith and EJ led the pack I certainly think a player of Allen's profile would have been a top 5 pick. I think in most draft classes he isn't viewed as the top 1-2 selection at QB.
  3. I don't think they can, as long as a QB is able to scramble and avoid a hit tackling a QB via a straight line is the best way of attaining a sack. This rule is way too hard and way too burdensome for defenders. There have been defenders who have hit the QB with their shoulder and because of the way they fell they got flagged. When one human being is taking down another human being in a matter of seconds it is almost impossible to expect them to make last second adjustments to how they fall onto that person. This directive is effectively making a QB insanely harder to sack in a manner that is completely unfair and almost impossible for defenders.
  4. The NFL still dominates Sundays. But the NFL its self has crippled its own products ability to continue to grow with overexposure (Those dumb Thursday games) and poor management of external issues (The Ray Rice debacle and the anthem protests.) The NFL still does insane TV ratings and the ratings this year so far have done well (after two years of declines the NFL's ratings are either holding steady or slightly up.) Overall I don't think the NFL is necessarily less popular but rather that the NFL has handled its business poorly and it has turned away some casual fans.
  5. The video doesn't make sense because the game is played at speed and these defenders can't make these adjustments in matter of well below a second. At this point you should just make hitting the QB illegal because these new rules are just an insane over correction.
  6. Hyde and Proyer are a very legit top 5 safety combo in the league, so to underplay them as "scrappy" is under playing them and as you mentioned White is a stud at corner. That's a pretty good base to start a secondary with, toss in the fact that Johnson seems to be playing well and that adds a second pretty good reliable corner. If you have 4 very legit players who can all play at a high level that's a pretty dam good secondary if they are all healthy. IF Johnson is playing at a high level I would classify them as a top 5 secondary.
  7. I wonder what WR's will be available on the trade market if any. I think that if Allen continues to progress well the team will have to at least scan the market for WR's as it is likely the weakest group on the team.
  8. From 2006 to 2010 the only notable young QB's that came into the league were Matt Ryan, Matthew Stafford, and Joe Flacco. I would argue that only Ryan is really an elite player out of the 3. That's 5 consecutive draft classes with a subpar influx of QB's into the league. That's certainly going to help those older QB's seem at the top of the league longer.
  9. It's been a solid steady flow of good young QB's into the league since 2011. 2011- Cam Newton, Andy Dalton, and Tyrod (Cam is a top 10 QB with top 5 potential, Dalton is a pretty good QB, and Tyord a competent QB) 2012- Russell Wilson, Andrew Luck, Tannehill, and Kirk Cousins (Wilson is a legit top 10 QB borderline top 5, Luck is beaten up but he was elite for a few years while Tannehill and Cousins have emerged as a starting caliber QB's) Nick Foles was also in this draft class. 2013- Busts, seriously one of the worst draft classes of all time. 2014- Derrick Carr and Jimmy G (Carr is a pretty good QB and Jimmy G flashed potential but sadly got hurt) 2015- Winston and Mariota (Both have top 10 potential but Winston's off field issues have hampered him and injuries have hampered Mariota.) 2016- Goff, Wentz, and Dak (Goff and Wentz are top 10 if not top 5 QB's and Dak could still be a decent QB.) 2017- Trubinsky, Mahomes, and Watson (Mahomes is lighting the league on fire, Watson light the world on fire last year, and Trubinsky well he will keep getting starts to turn it around.) 2018- Mayfield, Allen, Darnold, Rosen, and Jackson (5 legit QB prospects.) I feel like from 2006-2010 there was a big dry spell for QB's. The only real notable QB's to emerge were Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, and Matthew Stafford. 06, 07, and 10 were particularly bad drafts that produced no notable QB's.
  10. Bell will easily be able to recoup that 15 million he lost sitting out this season by signing a huge deal in 2019. Bell could sign a deal with upwards of 40 million guaranteed in 2019. Bell will be two years older than he was in the 2017 season but he will be coming off of a year where he wasn't injured and logged 0 wear and tear. He is preserving his future value by not playing for a team who only has 2018 in his interests. If you are in a market paying for future production then avoiding the risk of a team running you into the ground for one season is probably a smart idea. Bell is avoiding the scenario where he collects that 15 million but gets hurt and loses the value of a future contract. Even if Bell signs a 30 million dollar guarantee that's double the guarantee he currently has with much less risk. His representation is giving him the right advice. He played on the franchise tag last year and played out his rookie deal all at high levels of production. Now with his team having little recourse but to fine him he is not having much at risk.
  11. Luck clearly isn't anywhere close to what he was. Now his injury was very very serious so I am not willing to write him off just yet as he clearly was going to need some time to get back to 100%. He looks like damaged goods but still too early to tell.
  12. Even as far as second round busts Cyrus Kouandjio is as equally bad a bust as Zay is thus far. Cyrus was drafted to be a huge anchor at RT very early in the second round. Cyrus obviously didn't pan out for the Bills. So even by the standards of recent draft busts there are equally as bad ones.
  13. I love Lorax as a specialty all around player. Obviously Milano and Edumonds are projected to be 3 down line backers. Both Milano and Edumonds can play the run and are fast enough to defend the short and intermediate pass game. Lorax however is a little exposed against the pass. But as an early down LB and as a pass rush specialist he has value. Not to mention the positive force he is in the locker room.
  14. He caught his only target for 17 yards and it was an important catch for a first down fairly early in the game. It also seemed like Zay got a limited amount of snaps as the team seemed to be rotating receivers to keep everyone fresh. Only WR that I saw consistently out there was Benjamin. He wasn't a factor out there but it wasn't like the team was throwing a lot after they built the lead either. Zay hasn't crushed it but he had a big play against the Chargers and he seems to be consistently working it out there. I wouldn't throw in the towel on him just yet.
  15. I love football but I can't get into college football for some reason. I think it is mainly due to the sheer volume of teams and the bizarre notion of ranking teams before they have even played that turns me off. I also feel like a lot of teams play 50% or more of their games against far less opponents which makes watching week in and week out less interesting. I also find it inherently un-American that a league with multiple billion dollar television contracts can't pay their players. I am sorry but we don't charge some of the players to go to school isn't exactly what I would call fair compensation.
  16. I think Dez is a potential problem child which makes me think he wouldn't fit the process. I am curious as to if there are any other WR's on the market that would be worth kicking the tires on? I would have loved to have traded for Josh Gordon who I think is a legit number one and would have brought a lot of speed to complement Allen's big arm. But no use crying about not getting Gordon. However, I do think that all options should be explored when it comes to getting some help at WR.
  17. I think the Vikings also missed Dalvin Cook. Cook is their best runner but he also dynamic out of the backfield catching the ball, and when your O-line is struggling against a pass rush a lot of screen passes and running back pass designs can help take the edge off the defense.
  18. Even in the previous two weeks White played really well. As much as people B word that we didn't take Mahomes we got a truly special player with the pick.
  19. Once Edumonds gets a feel for the game he will be a monster, but there will be some growing pains as is expected.
  20. There are still 13 games left, but I wouldn't want to offer KB anything beyond a one year deal even if he finishes the year strong. Let's say KB puts together a strong end to the season, I can see KB getting a big guarantee and phoning it in.
  21. It's one game, you look as silly as the people calling Allen a bust after week 2.
  22. It's 3 games into the season but KB just doesn't look like a Number one receiver he doesn't even look like a quality number 2. But I still think that he is better than whatever we would be able to throw out behind him. He still is a big target and he can get those 50/50 balls. I think they have to play him the remainder of the year as he is one of our best receivers (which is more of a knock on our receiving core) provided he doesn't become a locker room issue. Hopefully KB can pull it together but it looks like he might be putting together a mediocre season.
  23. Let's not get too crazy after one game. I loved the way Allen and the offense in general looked. They seemed to feed off his energy and play. But in the NFL fluky things happen. You can't get too high or too low based off of one game. I am not trying to down play this game. The Vikings have a great defense easily top 10 if not top 5 in the league and Allen played extraordinary against them. But once again this is just one week. Every year each team has 2 games where they come out flat and 2 games where they look like world beaters. I loved what I saw from Allen but there still is a long way to go.
  24. I hope it isn't an ACL, I hate to see players go down like that.
  25. That should do it, run the ball a few times to grind the clock below the 10 minute mark and that should do it.
