2022 Free Agency - Around the NFL Thread
billsfan89 replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
Jets made a solid move grabbing Tomlinson, but do they have the coaching to put the talent together? I expect the Jets to be better but they are still about a year away in their rebuild. -
For an O-line player who has looked good in the limited snaps he played and can play all 5 positions yes the market is that ridiculous.
-
All fair points about Mac. I wouldn't be shocked to see the Bills draft a speed WR even if they sign Landry or another vet in the slot. But despite the lack of a perceived "field stretcher" the Bills offense never had trouble getting the ball downfield esp when protection was solid.
-
Watching the Bills in 2020 and 2021 I don't see them having a problem getting the ball downfield. Davis, Mac and Diggs (and Knox to a lesser extent) don't have problems getting deep balls from Josh. I think the O-line is the biggest issue on the offense.
-
I think Mac being back is that speed element. I also think Davis and Diggs are able to get down field and break things down. With Mac back I personally think the need for "speed" is overrated.
-
Landry would replace Beasley as the team's "zone breaker" and add some physicality to the WR corps. He also is 3 years younger than Beasley and doesn't have a significant injury history. Diggs and Davis on the outside, Landry in the slot and Mac as the gadget WR4 is a really good WR corps.
-
They still have options. Jimmy G would be a great fit for them and be in their price range draft picks wise. I also think they are rumored to be in on Jordan Love which is another solid option for them.
-
I loved D.Williams the two years he was here. He was a dam fine RT in 2020 and kicked into guard and stabilized the RG position in 2021 (arguably was the best O-line player in 2021.) But I think this is a scheme fit situation along with a cap situation. Hoping the Bills are going hunting for guards in the off-season.

I fully agree that an upgrade at punter while also having someone that can hold at an effective level is the solution here. But Haack is not a bad fall back option if the draft doesn't pan out and the free agent punters aren't out performing Haack. Haack is a below average punter but at least he bring something else highly positive to the table outside of punting.

Edit! McKenzie is back on a 2 year deal worth 4.4 million

Love it, makes it so that the Bills don't have to "force" a move at WR with Beasley out. -
All fair points, but I think Sanders from Miami suffered regression in 2021 when he had a different holder. Catching a long snap and getting it down quickly is not easy.
-
Apparently hard enough to the point that it impacts a kickers accuracy. Bojo holding for Mason Crosby must have had some sort of negative impact on Crosby in Green Bay as Crosby went from having a 100% kick accuracy in 2020 (and 91% in 2019) to 73.5% in 2021. I can't say the holding was cause for all of that regression but it had to have had a negative impact of some sort. Meanwhile Bass took a major leap up with Haack holding.

When a team is winning the organization saves money by doing less and less for STH because the winning product is what draws STH. When the organization is losing and Season Tickets go down they pull out all the stops to stop the bleeding. Not having a draft party is stupid and just being penny wise and dollar foolish. Even from a pure dollars and cents perspective why not put on the best face while you are asking for hundreds of millions for a new stadium.

A below average punter but a fantastic kick holder. I don't think they spend draft capital on a punter although I could be wrong. I think they will live with his punting (which regressed last year, maybe they expect some positive regression as in Miami he was average to above average at punting) since he is such a good holder.

Bills Sniffing Around Amari Cooper
billsfan89 replied to BillsShredder83's topic in The Stadium Wall
A very good observation. Although I wouldn't be shocked to see the Bills having some interest in Cooper generally speaking. I think they "leave no stone unturned" when it comes to the WR market. -
Bills Sniffing Around Amari Cooper
billsfan89 replied to BillsShredder83's topic in The Stadium Wall
Cooper has been a boom or bust receiver his whole career, a good but not great player. If he came reasonably cheap 6 to 8 million) on a one year deal I would love it. Move Diggs to the slot and have Davis and Cooper on the outside. But I wouldn’t like to see the Bills break the bank on him either. -
I would like it as a one year prove it Deal for Shaq. Shaq is a good early down edge setter. If they can sign him I would like it.
-
I thought you could designate someone a June 1st cut earlier in the off-season?
-
If they can bring him back on a 4-5 million dollar deal I think that works good for both side. June 1st cut Star to make the space. I would rather have H.Phillips an in his prime player who is coming off a fairly good season than Star who is a veteran who while decent is massively overpaid. Just my two cents. Also rumors are just rumors from McDouchebag2k22 not really worth much.
-
I don't think he will be there at pick 25. I think the Chargers or Ravens will use him to bolster their run defense and hope that his tremendous physical profile can be formed into a better pass rusher at the pro level. If he is the Bills pick at pick 25 I won't hate it. The Bills could use more bulk up the middle, I just don't think he will be there at pick 25.
-
I wouldn’t trade up for him but if the Bills wanted to cut Star and draft him at pick 25 I wouldn’t hate it either.

Cole Beasley given permission to seek trade
billsfan89 replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall
I wouldn’t be shocked to see him on the Giants to be honest. But I think they likely will wait till Cole is cut. I just don’t see this ending in a trade but stranger things have happened.
