Were there ever years you were disinterested in the Bills?
Shaw66 replied to Another Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Late 70s through the mid-80s. I was living in Connecticut and the Bills games were rarely on TV. There was no way to see them, and there was limited reporting about them on local TV and in the local newspapers. I was newly married, raising young kids, starting a career, and working on an old house. Before then, from 1960, I was all in. As the Bills began building a powerhouse team in the mid- to late-80s, they started showing up on TV more often, and my sons became Bills fans. Have been full bore ever since. -
I’m expecting big things from him this year, but having an injury plagued sophomore slump as a highly drafted player is going to bring on criticism. Especially when he basically ended our season in symbolic fashion as a one play synopsis of why we haven’t gotten to a Super Bowl with Josh Allen yet. JA makes a superhuman play that would be remembered for years in NFL Playoff history should we go on to win the game and instead, it’s dropped, and we lose. Diggs blew a lot of goodwill by how we parted ways, but some of that goodwill was already out the door with the drop in the Divisional Round and overall lack of impact every postseason here. Fair or not, players at impact positions will be judged by their playoffs here far more than their regular seasons. So far, only Josh truly elevates his games in those moments. The fan bases frustration will continue until somebody decides they want to be his Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill or Chris Jones. Three guys who have been huge reasons for the Chiefs dominance along with Mahomes. This year can put that all behind us, but it’s Year 3 and on a team with a lot of question marks at weaponry, a guy we actually invested in has to make the jump.

Me too! Talent leveled up on paper, new coaches with specific skills. I also think they play it a bit different this year. I think games like Detroit, can give us Insight into why our off season was as it was as well as what we may see here in 2025 A dominant defense and offense is possible. I think anything less than a Superbowl, the team will consider it a failure, as will I. -
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/45705432/nflpa-head-works-firm-approved-invest-nfl Imagine being represented by a union where your executive director: 1. Works with management to ensure your pay is made less guaranteed than it could be. Then, agrees with management to keep an arbitrator's findings from becoming known to members that specifies this happened. 2. Receives a multi-million dollar compensation package representing your union while simultaneously doing outside work. When asked to resign from one part-time position, he refuses. 3. That outside work includes working for a private equity firm, albeit in another sector, that is likely to invest in NFL franchises. And, serves on 3 other boards and is paid by those companies as well. The NFLPA has gradually, since the death of Gene Upshaw, become more of partners with the NFL than anything else. At the same time, the search committee recommended this guy and it's their funeral for hiring him. I only highlight this situation because, at some point, the players' relationship with both the league and their executive/leadership will sour if it hasn't already. And that means what has been labor peace since 2012 will likely end. The current CBA doesn't expire until 2030, but at some point I expect there will be problems.

I was married in 2/85. My bride asked “Why do you do this to yourself?” when we had back to back 2-14 seasons. She now proudly wears a Bills shirt that says “I Married Into This”. She gets it. -

"FALSE. The Department of Homeland Security DID NOT target the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture. On July 8, HSI Chicago's Financial Crimes Task Force (FCTF) staged and held a quick briefing in the Museum's parking lot in advance of an enforcement action related to a narcotics investigation." https://abc7chicago.com/amp/post/ice-chicago-puerto-rican-museum-staff-says-homeland-security-surveyed-area-ahead-barrio-arts-fest-humboldt-park/17036923/ So, maybe not? Sounds like people are looking for the boogeyman.

Mahomes was never a body guy and looks like the same to me.

Talent and let's not forget the new coaching we brought in. To my amateur eye, it looks like McBeane identified they want more talent on D, more production from the D line, they may want to play more man-doed this mean more aggression, and brought in outside eyes with experience in these areas. I think it's an area they wanted to improve and the moves they made are logical to achieve that improvement -
Very fine people ICE is arresting. But the racism angle is wearing thin. Even with "brown" people that support removing criminal illegals. Why don't you meet up with these outstanding young men for margaritas in Omaha? https://nypost.com/2025/07/10/us-news/violent-ms-13-kingpin-wanted-for-five-murders-and-another-gang-member-arrested-by-ice-in-omaha/

Our Defense was pretty meh, at best, last year. I’m as frustrated as anyone that, regardless of roster, they become made of glass in the playoffs and get smoked by whatever iteration of the Chiefs Offense we have to see in the Playoffs year to year … but I won’t try to glean too much off what they did to get by last year. That same defense managed to get us by the best team in our conference with the Offense playing ball control in the Divisional Round. Now this year, with the new coaches they brought in, likely infusion of a 1st Round CB and second year 2nd Round Safety and Ryan Nielsen working with a far more talented DL group, I expect to see a different caliber of Defense.. one that causes havoc and manages to get off the field without needing turnovers to do so, allowing them to play a bit differently.

Yes, I am hoping with the defensive influx of talent, that a more aggressive mix it up approach will be used. More line stunts, more disguised blitzes. Etc. playing nickel D so much, does limit what you can do - with so many DBs on the field though. -
I'll do my part... .....until it's deleted.

August 9th was actually the day ol' Jer left his body. Interestingly enough, he was born on August 1st, leading Deadheads to call the period from August 1st to August 9th "The Days Between" (after a Grateful Dead song) and celebrate his life the entire week. But to be honest...most Deadheads celebrate his life just about every day by listening to his music. I don't know that I can think of a single person who has impacted my life in such a singular and positive way, or who adds to it on a day-to-day basis as much as Jerry Garcia. The Grateful Dead is the soundtrack of my life, and in their thirty years of recorded live music (just about every show they EVER played is available to listen to in its entirety for free online!), they left an infinite treasure hunt of amazing improvised music and living spirit. No two shows the same, no song ever played the same way twice. As Jerry himself once said about The Dead: "'We're like licorice. Not everybody likes licorice, but the people who like licorice really like licorice". Yeah. That. I'll be in Golden Gate Park on August 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for three consecutive Dead and Company shows, celebrating 60 years of Grateful Dead. To answer your question, @Bad Things : The only place I see online to buy the Truckin Up to Buffalo CD is Ebay. They have it for about $30. You can buy the DVD on Amazon. I've listened to the show and watched the DVD. It's a good one! And since I'm here and have already typed too many words anyway...here's maybe my favorite picture of Jerry:

I never lost interest, There were years I sadly accepted that they sucked. Fan since their inception. Even their horrible years they were a constant source of discussion with my family. Many years of disappointment but never lost interest.
