McDermott took a lot of heat for not developing him quicker (even with his injuries). If Hancock can take a similar path as Cole, we’re set in the secondary for awhile. Having Poyer out there helping these guys with their keys and calls has been a catalyst for this defenses improvement imo. I’m really glad he’s back side note- I’m fine with cam Lewis as a starting nickel due to his versatility at Safety. He might be better than Taron at this stage in their careers. Less than a year apart in age, but Cam continues to get better.

Agreed on Taron. But he’s definitely beginning to decline. I’ve always been an advocate of developing players.. which is why you draft not for players in the upcoming season, but players in 1 or 2 seasons. Given that.. they need to start looking for TJs replacement soon, IMO. I think Beane has been pretty good at this mindset. Of course, not all players work out, but it takes a couple years to really find out. Which makes the draft misses so much more harmful. Bishop is a good example, if he continues to improve and stays healthy… next year; and for many more years, we’re set. If he doesn’t… the secondary is in trouble for years. But it takes faith, a solid and stable coaching staff to develop players, and a player willing to continue working on his game for it all to succeed.
