Should we be happy with this before we see results? A couple years ago we bagging Beane to draft players on O because a lot of high picks were used on D. 13 seconds was 4 or 5 years ago, the D was a lot better then so who’s to say just adding players fixes the problem? Seen Bellichik adapt to his players strength numerous times over the years on D. Bills keep trying to fit a system that seems to be a weakness itself when playing better offences.

I like the leadership and stability McDermott and Beane have brought, but I also feel this is spot on. The D has been good at times, but never great. Far too much bending and it breaks when needed most. Is it the players, the system, the coaching? The D is Mcdermott's baby and it would be nice to see him own the failures and adapt a bit.

I hike/trail run every weekend, usually in the Santa Cruz Mountains in California. Sometimes I move through redwood forests and sometimes I'm rewarded with beautiful views of the Monterey Bay. But the mountains themselves aren't this majestic. I'm jealous.

I said we were in this position because we whiffed on Carter and because Ogunjobi lied. Clearly, if things had progressed to the point of him flying to Buffalo to sign an agreement, we’d already done a bunch of due diligence on guys and felt good about him. At that point, what were we supposed to do? I’d argue Beane made the best of a bad situation. Getting two good DT prospects in the draft further insulated us against really bad outcomes. Signing Phillips even further helps. I don’t know if you’re aware but we didn’t exactly have tons of cap and Aaron Donald wasn’t coming out of retirement to play with us. Fans can whine and complain all they want but how we handled our DT depth/future this off season was prudent even if a little unlucky.
