Ok, this seems like a great alternative to Directv

I disagree. I have COX Communications here in Vegas. We have NFL and NHL network on digital cable. Over 50 stations in HD offered. I can add a hard drive bought at any electronics store for more storage. Apple TV on Mac can download all the shows thru my wireless router. No, I can't program the DVR from my cell phone, but I have a life and I really don't care about that anyway. So in my opinion, the only thing Direct TV is good for is NFL Sunday Ticket.

That was pretty unnecessary. I'd suggest that those of us "with a life" particularly enjoy this feature since we're therefore not wedded to the network schedule. Didn't you ever forget to set your VCR or DVR because you were too busy enjoying your "life" and wished you had recorded something? I can resolve that issue in about 30 seconds, so I can get back to my "life."

DirecTV is pretty friggin' awesome. Glad you like your cable company.

the entire season: $40

https://gamerewind.nfl.com/nflgr/secure/registerform

Games available after 1 hour of game ending. Commercial-free about 3 hours after the game is over. Sync up with the local radio broadcast, have integrated stats...

Considering I watch the games on TiVo anyway, so I can skip the commercials (and make the 3.5 hour ordeal only a 90 minute ordeal) - this may be the way to go on my 24" iMac.

Anyone have any opinions on this? Sounds like a great deal to me.

Everything but waiting until midnight to see the game sounds good. A) I won't stay up. B) What am I going to do? Remain in a media blackout all day Sunday and then wake up and watch the game at 5AM the next morning.

I would only get DirecTV for the NFL but I can't. Trees block the satellites. And before anyone asks, I've had multiple installers out including specialists. No dice.

That's a bummer. I've been fortunate over the past 15 years and four homes that even on wooded lots, the installer was able to get a clean sightline.

Has anyone actually gone on the roof to do the survey? Because like eball said, even heavily wooded lots can almost always get a signal.

I need to take a picture of the house down the street that has the dish literally pointing at the roof 12" away, and still gets a signal.

I was able to receive a directv signal while in a wooded campground with my makeshift satellite dish sitting on a lawn chair pointing at trees. They must have improved their signal because I don't remember ever being able to get a signal without a clear view of the sky. Suggest you try again....

I signed up for it last week. Can already watch any game in entirety from last year from any team. No preseason games though despite misleading links on NFL.com. While I will be able to watch most if not all the Bills games in real time anyway, $40 seemed like a deal to be able to watch portions of them over again and takes some of the pressure off making sure I get to the bar on time. Plus I can watch any other game that I may have missed. Also saves time trying to find certain highlights. It just seems like a great deal for the fan that is serious about watching the team, and the NFL in general, closely.

Thanks for the info, Scott. I'm almost certainly going to purchase this package. I too almost always watch time-shifted. Also, we're moving soon and I was just looking for ways to save money. I love DirecTV, except when we get heavy rain (blocks signal), and the fact that the Weather Channel doesn't show local weather.

Really, the NFL is what has kept me anchored with them. I think I may try AT&T's bundle: internet, phone and TV (U-Verse). At very least, I can play hardball with DTV and make them prove how much they want me to stay  .

If you're over seas you can get Game Pass, which is basically NFL Sunday Ticket, streamed on Yahoo. I was living overseas the first year it came out...works great!

I have a question on this service since I will be in Switzerland for most of the season. Yahoo will not let me access the site to view the details since I am currently in the US. It says I am in a restricted territory!

How much does it cost?

You mention that it is like NFL Sunday Ticket, but the ticket does not carry all games. There are blocked games, games you must watch on the local broadcast + Sunday night and Monday night football that are only carried on the NBC/ESPN network feeds. This will carry all games?

Tried it 3 years ago. Maybe I'll get them out again. (For THIS season? Ugh.)

It's been a few years, so I'm not really sure of the details. I'm fairly sure that they show all games. Where I lived, there was a bar nearby that showed the Monday Night game. We used to go there every week, so I'm not positive about MNF, but I know the Sunday night game was on. Again, I'm almost positive it showed everything.

I have no idea what the price was, but I do remember that you could pay either by the game or for the season. I remember that the season package was a good deal. Something like $25 per game, but $200 per season (again, I really can't remember anymore so I'm just guessing).

Well according to some not a problem

Everyones "needs" are different...I think $40 to watch any NFL game, whether you know the score or not, is pretty damn cheap..if you can afford it. Or, if you have to work on Sundays, or have other stuff going on, it is very convenient.

BTW- where does it say that the games will be available "at midnight"?

I completely agree. The only to watch bills games, especially away games is to TIVO them and once you know how good or bad the game was (any you know half of them will be unwatchable) you watch or don't watch. Saves your Sundays for more important things.

When you're paying for the package, it says all games will be available by 9pm pacific. I imagine the 1:00 games will be up earlier than that, but I guess 9 is their cutoff to have them all up.

anyone who has questions about the time should call the NFL tech support line. The number is listed on that page somewhere.

As one who can't get the NFL Network, or Direct TV, I think this is awesome...being a bit of an insomniac nightowl, currently underemployed, this has got me really pumped for the NFL season. I would pay $40 to get the NFL Network for the football season, hoping for some Bills coverage...so paying $40 to have access to all of their games (along with all other games, not matter what time they are available) just seems like something I can't afford not to do...thanks so much for the heads up!

That's not true at all. Time Warner doesn't have NFL Network, for example. And DirecTV has, by far, more regular HD channels than any cable company I've ever seen. Not to mention the customer service is much better than my experiences with cable.

Plus, it has better hardware/software than most cable companies I've seen. With my HD DVR, I can add a larger hard drive to increase my recording time -- can't do that with cable. Can you stream shows you have recorded on your DVR onto a PC in your house? DirecTV has that functionality. Can you tell your DVR to record something from your cell phone?

DirecTV has way more than just Sunday TIcket going for it -- although I will agree that the service is their crown jewel. That's not all they have though.

Yes. The NFL Sunday Ticket is DirecTV's crown jewel. I however prefer DishNetwork, primarily for their far more flexible offerings of equipment (such as dual tuner units that can be independently fed to different TV displays). It's like two boxes for the cost of one (One output is HD, the second SD but I still have numerous SD TV's to this work fabulously). DirecTV can record one channel and display another, but cannot send different channels to two different TV's).

If DTV would offer this, I'd leave DishNetwork but alas, DTV even killed off independents from making and selling receivers for DTV. In the past, I loved some of the old Hughes boxes, which were far superior to the DTV offerings.

Yet I still hedge my bets as I'm a grandfathered NFL Sunday Ticket/Superfan only subscriber as well (DTV).

Being of suspicious nature, I checked the "www.NFL.com" page and it's there.....

As in everything the NFL does, the prices is subject to year after year increases if this becomes a heavy seller. Yet, for now it seems like a great deal and I registered, but not yet paid. I will be as soon as I get my wallet and pull out an old dusty credit card.

If this performs satisfactorily, it may be time to say goodbye to DTV all together. My wife and family will be thrilled not to have me glued to the TV every Sunday afternoon and evening watch football.

Woo hoo!!!

Same here! When I first realized what this was, I thought I was misreading it. The entire season streamed on my PC for $40?? This is an absolute no-brainer, and a Godsend for those of us who have the DTV tree issue. I work nights and sleep during the day, so this fits my schedule perfectly. FORTY BUCKS?? Are you KIDDING me? I can't wait for the season to start!

Thanks for the head's up on this, Scott....you da man!

I just fired up the demo to see what it looks like...it's perfect!

I emailed the support email for this service, and asked what time the games will be available and this was the response:

"

Customer,

The games will be available 1 hour after the live broadcast is over, with the exception of the Monday Night games, which will be available the following morning.

I tried that once and absolutely cannot do it! I am always too anxious to get to the current location to know the score. I will at times pause it for a bio break, but I will quickly catch up. I believe the only way to watch your favorite team is live. But that's just me, it drives me crazy not knowing the current situation. And BTW, watching the Bills is the most important part of my Sundays during football season...GO BILLS!!!!

I just canceled my ST subscription. They went down to $150, free Superfan, and free Showtime for 6 months, but I said no thanks.

The Game Rewind demo was fabulous and I think it will work well for me. I'm looking into hooking my laptop up to my TV and see how that works, if not my computer displays are pretty nice anyway.

I'll be picking up the Triple Play FIOS for my TV service, probably with a TiVo Series4 when they are released. Unlimited long distance, caller ID, and 25 Mbps internet, and HD DVR service... all for the same price as the inferior services I'm getting now. Major upgrade in all three areas!

Thanks for the heads-up, I had looked into this before but never followed through. One hour after the game is over is great, but even if it's later than that, this is still a nice deal. Just watched some of last year's Seattle game... my PC monitor is also my back-up TV (52" flatpanel), & the PQ looked really good.

BUMP.

I just called DTV to cancel my Sunday Ticket. I did this a month or so ago and got a great deal to keep it. Now, though, my reasoning is that the Bills are my primary reason for ST, and I have such low expectations this year that I don't want to pay to see it all implode.

S.O.B., they gave me an even greater deal! The guy said he couldn't completely give me superfan for free, so he took more off the ST. Total price for everything is now $200.00 -down from $370 as a perenial purchaser. I honestly wanted to drop it this time, given what we've all witnessed in this 'win or else' season. I was hmming and hawing over their counter offer when the guy said " we paid over $1BILLION for this service for just a 3 year contract.." I actually felt a little sorry for him..

Sucker that I am, I took the new -improved special, figuring that turning it off at halftime (as I did many times last year) justifies half the price..

I don't know. 9pm pacific or midnight on the east coast coincidently is just a little after the ending of the Sunday night game. It seems logical to me that the NFL wouldn't want anyone watching this package while live games are still being aired as the sponsors want everyone watching their games. So my guess is all the games regardless of whether they started at 1 or 4 will only be after midnight, or maybe after the Sunday night game ends.

For $40 I'm still going to do it, but I'll be shocked if anything is available prior to midnight.

Hey all...I signed up for this a few days ago. Today, I realized that the entire 2008 season is archived on the site...I checked out a few games, and I must say, while I am still excited about the product, the picture quality is considerably worse than what was on the demo (the Steelers/Cards SB)...it is a little disappointing. The demo looked fantasic.

I am not the most computer savvy guy in the world, so maybe it is something with my computer. The video plays, but it much choppier than the demo, and the picture is much more, uh, pixilated? If that is the right term. Anyone else notice this? Any suggestions on what to check, or how to improve the video quality?

Mine was like that for about ten seconds, then the resolution gradually improved to where I was pretty happy with what I was seeing.

I watched nearly the entire Bills/Broncos game from last season, and the quality was okay, but not as nice as that demo. Maybe the newer ones will look nicer...

btw- when you sign up, it lets you know that your subscription "expires" at exactly 11:59pm on January 3rd, 2010... so I guess no playoff games? No big deal, as they will all be on television...but that is soo NFL!
