  1. Lots of good advice on the board. I live in Chicago and am flying to NYC for the weekend to hangout with a bunch of old friends for the weekend. All of them will be at the wedding and ALL of them are hardcore NFL fans. I'm in multiple fantasy leagues with these guys. There will be a large contingent of Bills fans (driving in from western NY) and also a few die hard pats friends (from Boston). Those guys are going to be following the scores and the Pats guys are content with watching on their phones knowing it will be in and out. So that kind of screws me over. I felt I practically invented the TIVO delay back in the early 90's (on VCR). I've been doing this for NBA and NFL and MLB for years and thankfully have had zero blown games (out of maybe 75+ attempts). But this time is different. After the NYC wedding, driving home with my brother (another Bills fan who is ok with missing the game) 5 hours back home (radio silence will be tough on an NFL day car trip back home). I think I'm doomed to quietly watch it on the phone and rewatch it when I get home. I guess I'll get him something really nice for a wedding present!
  2. Folks, I'm presented with the ultimate Bills viewing conflict. My friend (non sports fan) is having his wedding reception at noon in NYC this Sunday! I'm a DirecTV subscriber with the mobile To Go package. I also have a laptop with 4G (sprint) and a phone with 4G. No wifi in the wedding hall. 4G probably won't work. My fall back is to watch the game on 3G on my phone with a pair of headphones during the wedding (suboptimal solution). Anyone have any other ideas? I don't have a slingbox (although I may go and buy one if I can't come up with another solution). Is there a way to watch the game immediately after its over online? I can probably pull off not knowing or hearing the score for a few hours and then watch the game immediately afterwards but I'm not sure when the replays are available. Any help appreciated. I can't believe I've avoided this type of situation for 15 years (I've done the TIVO delay many times and never found out the results ahead of time).
  3. Pretty benign comment. I hope he says they aren't the Chiefs. Much ado about nothing.
  4. Great news. So glad to see him turn his life around. 2 years ago nobody would spit on him and now he seems to have a bright future. Always great to see stories like this. What saddens me is those out there that continue to espouse hate. Specifically, the idiot above who hopes he blows out his knee. That type of sickening attitude is a bit scary in today's world. Who thinks like that? The deal is a good one for Philly. Its not 100 million dollars--its 40 million. Not a bad investment given what Vick is capable of doing. He continues to grow under Reid and who knows how much better he can get. The key will be keeping him healthy though but even 12 games a year is a good deal for that money.
  5. I don't get the personal hate directed towards Maybin in this group. Its not as if he chose to under perform to the level he was drafted at. He worked hard, never caused locker room trouble, and was generally a good guy. He just didn't live up to the expectations of the coaches. I wish him the best and hope he dominates on the Jets for 14 weeks of the year.
  6. "see the arab play?" Unless you are Arab yourself, you sound like a condescending bigot.
  7. I think you are so incredibly off base its ridiculous. Its easy to have this opinion when you or your home is not vandalized or threatened. These two punk kids may have ruined his lawn but what if he had family in there? Kids? Are you seriously telling me you are comfortable in a world where your kids are at home and idiot kids are running around outside defacing your home? Its only a matter of consequence that they chose to ruin the lawn as opposed to spray graffiti on his house as opposed to throw a rock threw a window as opposed to setting it on fire. Reality check for you please.
  8. You, sir, are an idiot. Guys like this should be banned from this site. Advocating vandalism and hate crimes? Its this clown's attitude that gives the rest of us a bad name. Buffalo fans were a national embarassment because of two idiot kids and guys like this who support their actions.
  9. I concur. Calling maybin out? You are an idiot.
  10. Solid post. While the rest of he board is ready to write off the team after a 1 point loss to a team where Cris Carter or Tom Jackson said "they could hang 70 on them tonight" I think we did ok. I'm much more positive going into next week. If it takes an act of god, some fluke plays, and the best KR of last year having a terrible bone headed play to lose to the top ranked Pats, I'd take that any day. O line looked very good and came to play. The offense moved the ball-despite the checkdowns. I liked the flow of the game. I liked the pressure that we had on Brady for 3 quarters. I think we go from "will we win 5 games?" to "do we have a shot at the playoffs?"
  11. Demetrius Bell Haters....are your kidding? First of all, if you didn't expect this kid who has 5 yrs of football under his belt to not have some rookie mistakes you're kidding yourselves. 2 illegal formations were his fault--he will learn. Those aren't mistakes of skill. They are mistakes of being a freaking rookie. I'm not sure what game you guys were watching. Bell looked solid on 80-90% of his plays. TE had relatively good blind side protection. If this was Bell's first game then I'm pretty happy about the rest of the year. The kid has only upside.
  12. Am I the only one who has a completely different perception of the team after this game? Yeah they blew a game that they should won. Yeah it hurts. But 4 hours ago I had the following concerns: Please don't get blown out 50-0. Line please don't suck and be the worst iteration ever. Running game please don't disappear without Marshawn and only 2 backs on the roster. Edwards please don't put up pre-season like numbers and make us beg for good ol' JP. Defense please don't give the QB hours to pass. Well we went against the best team in the NFl and held our own on hostile territory. All my concerns were answered in the positive. I no longer am worried about 4-12 and can start dreaming of a playoff shot again. Get over it eveyone, its week 1 on the road vs the best team in the nfl where we were favored to lose by 12.
  13. You guys all need to chill out here. You hate McKelvin? Do you think he intentionally chose to fumble. I'm sure he feels 100 x's worse that you guys. He made a mistake, get over it. They lost. Calling for his death is not only assinine, it really shows your character. Where was everyone when he was the best KR man in the league last year? Were you calling for his death then? God damn. What I learned from this game is: 1. The defense is legit. 2. Fred Jackson is legit. 3. Edwards may have given us a respite from our concern. 4. This line won't be half bad once they get some experience. They certainly did a decent job minus some rookie mistake penalties which will ease out over time.
  14. The link does not seem to go to the right place....am interested in the mount.
  15. Why are you guys so ready to believe this dumb 59 year old woman's story? And why aren't we asking the primary question here...was this woman white? Young black man. Old white lady. Heard this story a million times. A racist white lady scared of big black men getting scared and using her prejudices to indict said big black man 2 months later based on nothing substantial is a FAR MORE BELIEVABLE story than the guy jerking off outside some old bag's house. Play the statisitical odds. Racist white woman vs. this absurd story. Come on guys, stop being stupid. I feel bad that this idiot woman has ruined his reputation.
  16. Most people watch at home, not a bar so the telecast will naturally be geared to them. As for the stats at the bottom, I have to disagree. I think they are fairly unobstrusive. Fantasy football is a fact of life and it will continue to grow every year. My prediction is that in 10 years primary NFL viewership will be fantasy based, rather than fan based. Fantasy football brings the non-fans into a given game. So those stats aren't going anywhere. As an avid FF guy myself, I like to have the stats there for me to look at if needed. I am usually so into the Bills game I don't notice, but its nice to have them there for reference as needed.
  17. The Somalian coast is huge. There is plenty of room to dump and fish. I'm no expert on the situation but I'm sure both the fishing and dumping are done covertly and not by the same ships. And you are right--it doesn't justify holding hostage passing ships, but my point was to present that one wrong precipitated the second and the solution to these problems is to find the root cause of the issue rather than respond arbitrarily to the second wrong of piracy (in complete absentia of addressing the first wrong).
  18. Good link. If you guys haven't read it, then do. I'm glad there are some intelligent folks on this list that can look at the situation in an unbiased manner and figure out the WHY. For those who aren't going to read, long story short: many countries and corporations were dumping nuclear waste of Somali shores which affected local fishermen and they started out as sort of a defense militia. Unchecked fishing depleted food for these same people which as you can imagine has downstream effects on the economy and food supply chian. Over time the defensive tactics evolved and the profiteering element interceded as well. The solution is not KILL or blow people up as some idiots have alluded to on this thread, its to understand the problem and fix the initiating injustice.
  19. I think the "TO Effect" (it should have its own name) was a mix of football and marketing advancements. There is no doubt that the TO Effect will help the offense considerably (at least until the left side of the line was decimated). At 6.5 per, there is no doubt in my mind that the FO was considering upgrading their roster. That said, we'd be fools to think that this decision was not made with equal concern over the "TO Effect" on ticket sales, Toronto sales, merchandising sales, etc. Also, I haven't seen anyone account for the largest component of the "TO Effect": Media coverage. I listen to NFL Radio, NFL Network, ESPN, etc and all off season you hear nothing (I mean NOTHING) about the Bills unless Joe from Buffalo calls in. Since the TO Effect took place, there has been more coverage of the Bills than anyone else. TE all of a sudden is the most quoted/interviewed QB this side of Cutler. The TO Effect restores Buffalo's football relevance that has been lost to 9 years of playoff futility. Is he going to help the passing game? No doubt. Is he going to bring back interest in a very dangerous flux year which could define the momentum of the organization for 2011 and beyond? Most definitely yes. I'm confident the latter was not lost on the FO when signing TO.
  20. Your bashing of Peters for "not showing loyalty" makes absolutely on sense. Why should he show loyalty to the corporation that is the Bills? Will they show him loyalty? If there was loyalty from the organization to the players, they wouldn't have "guaranteed money." It would all be guaranteed. The team will drop a guy like there is no tomorrow if its in their best interest and that's why I'm always baffled by fans that unilaterally take the organization's side. Don't get me wrong, I want the best players and the best team, but it's ridiculous to assume they should compromise their own net worth for some unidirectional loyalty we expect of them. This is more our selfish desires to have our team do well--but its not fair to the player or his free market value. Ask Dockery about loyalty. Was he not "loyal" to the team?
  21. Your excited to get rid of Peters? Come on man. I'll tell you who is excited: the entire city of Philly and every NFL talking head (excited for Philly). Now that the FO has torn apart the left side of our O line, expect Trent to have no time to make any passes and watch the OC turn our offense back into short outs and dinks and dunks to avoid the sacks. Knowing TE's injury history, get ready for the Fitzpatric, show as well. The AFC East (sans us) is known for its great 3-4 defenses and the absence of a legitimate NFL caliber line is usually detrimental to your own well being. And what serious knee injury did Crowell have? Are you privy to some information the rest of us don't have? All reports have/had Crowel back to form while last season was still continuing. Crowell was a stud and we lost him. Greer was a stud and we lost him. Peters was a stud and we lost him. Dockery was decent and we lost him. My grade for the off season so far is a solid D minus. The draft will be interesting and I agree--we need grand slam just to raise the grade to a D plus. Even with a grand slam in the draft we don't get back to baseline for all our losses this off season.
  22. As I read all these posts here, it seems painfully obvious that most are just trying to make themselves feel better about this "trade" (I use the word loosely) that just doomed our team. You guys can say JP has no brains, that he'll get lazy in two years (really?), get arrested, or other such laughable comments but the truth is he is one of the best LTs in the game. He's played the position for what, 3 years? 2 years form now he won't be arrested or quit on his team, he'll be THAT much better and the pre-eminent LT in the league (oh wait, everyone outside Buffalo thinks he's pretty much there right now). What did we get in return? The 28th pick? Seriously? This is one of the biggest ripoffs of the decade IMHO and time will bear this out. The failure to pay JP what he was worth casts a negative pall over the future of this franchise. Philly = winners playing to win Buffalo = playing to save a buck (or two) I don't know about you guys, but this was a TERRIBLE move by the Bills FO. Absolutely terrible.
  23. Well said. I used to think most people were geographically challenged when they didn't know where other countries were but to not know domestic cities (NFL towns for cryin' out loud!) is inexplicable. I doubt most people on this list know how far Jacksonville is from Miami or Atlanta from Nashville, etc. That said, Willis is definitely not excused from finding out where he was headed.
  24. I always wonder why these ceremonial "X number years" type logos/shirts/paraphernalia are so important to people. Who cares if its year 50...its not like that extra year makes my Bills fanship any more or less.
  25. I tend to agree. What was most telling was when HBO miked him vs. the Seahawks (I think) he was caught on the sideline talking about how he physically was having trouble keeping up now that he is no longer a young guy. It was a little disconcerting to hear, especially after he gets locked up with such a long term contract.
