Josh definitely played himself into ‘most unbiased people know he’s the mvp but he won’t get it for technicality reasons’ territory but I’m not sure he’ll get much further than that

Football is so crazy, we’re probably a Devon Achane toe away from us winning the division and Josh being the other guy neck and neck with Stafford in the mvp race lol it really is a game of inches.  Achane just stepped out of bounds on what coulda been a game winning td against the pats a few months ago then the dolphins ended up turning it over on downs 😂

Regarding the OP's initial question, I believe that Josh has absolutely played himself back into the race. And his credentials for this season are remarkable:

-- Broke the record for most rushing TDs by a QB

-- Became the first QB with 20+ TD passes and 10+ TD runs for multiple seasons

-- Is the only QB to have beaten Joe B, Lamar and Mahomes all in the same season

-- On pace for career best Completion %

-- Multiple signature performances (Baltimore, Tampa Bay and Cinci)

Beauty will be in the eye of the beholder. Despite Josh's accolades (and clearly having to do more with less surrounding talent), Maye and Stafford are certainly strong competitors for the MVP too. Maye's meteoric rise and key role in getting the Pats from worst to first in the AFCE certainly makes him worthy; if the Pats beat the Bills this weekend (regardless of how it transpires), it is hard to imagine voters giving the MVP to Josh over Maye who would have gone 2-0 against him this season. Stafford is playing at a ridiculously high level -- and his advanced age certainly could make him a sentimental favorite with voters.

if MVP means what the name says Allen is 100% the MVP

Without him this is a 3-4 win team

Without Maye, the Pats are probably not much better, in fairness. The Rams might get to 6-9 with Garoppolo, but are in a tough division.

meh maye played last year and the Patriots were bad. their turnaround is due to Vrabel

and credit Josh Daniels for making Maye into a superstar QB with not much talent around him.

If you really compare the rosters, Allen's offense has more playmakers and super stars than the Patriot's offense.

Ah okay. My bad then. Yeah, Josh would have to go nuclear then down this stretch including a W this Sunday against the Pats. Either way, both have to overcome Stafford's story book narrative.

Stafford's story book time came when he won a SB after joining the Rams.  He's statistically (other than yards) better this year, but there's no new angle to his story at this point.

If the Bills beat the Patriots, Maye will be out of the conversation and it will be between Stafford, Love, and Allen. Allen has no shot, though, unless he keeps playing with his hair on fire like he did last week (which is very possible), and the Bills overtake the Pats for the division. No way are they going to give the MVP to a player on a team that is 2nd place in their division.

So, I think it will go to Stafford unless they do poorly the last few weeks.

No not even close.

I know how this works as well as anyone because I do it for a living. As I have said before.

The person to ALWAYS win the MVP has the best odds at the Sports Book after the last regular season game has been played.

Right now Allen’s odds are +1400 or +1500 depending on which sports book you want to look at, which puts him in 4th place. Not even close to being back in it.

Stafford is -160 to -180 in first and Maye is second at +200. Those are the only two in it right now. You also have Love in third at +1000 but he isn’t really in it either.

Allen could play like he did yesterday the rest of the year and he still wouldn’t be in it unless Stafford and Maye both go on turnover sprees to finish the year and both have one to two turnovers every game, each game from here on out. That’s the main reason Allen isn’t in it anymore is because he has too many turnovers on the year compared to Maye and Stafford to this point.  Allen is at 12 total with fumbles + Interceptions.

So the answer is a huge No, he isn’t even close to being back in it at this point. I’m as big of Allen fan as there is also, but I’m also realistic and study this stuff for a living.

You will know when he is back in it, if he does get back in it because his odds will drop down to +250 or less.

"Is he" is the title. But I think "Will he be" is more the intent as the conversation evolves.

Sure, look at the odds, he's waaaay back. Then the thread is over.

If the Bills play their way back into the division title (or close to it) Stafford will be the only one who could possibly take it over Allen.

If the Bills continue to look clunky, and lose to NE/Philly, it's over, he won't be close.

Dawkins doesn't false start against houston and you can't say you don't like their chances in that one.

The NE game was there, even with 3 turnovers they had the ball near the RZ on 1st down down 3 points and under 3 in the game.

Then there's some of NE's finishes:

Miami has the ball on the NE 26 with 1:09 left down 6.  They get a false start, and delay of game to push them back to the 36 and turn it over on downs.

Atlanta had the ball on the NE 48 down 1 with 2:13 in the game and ran 3 pass plays and punted with 2 timeouts.  Disaster sequence.

They’d give it to Stafford over Allen for ‘lifetime achievement’/voter fatigue reasons unless Josh has significantly better stats than Stafford even if he wins the division.

the bills winning this pats game would probably spoil maye’s case against Stafford but it would still take a ton for Josh to jump Stafford.  He might get some votes though

Stafford very well could finish #2 in his division (actually, I expect it).

The Bills need to win the division for him to have a chance, I think.  To win the division, that would mean he played very well along the way, I would think. Maye is in the conversation because he has played well and his team has an 11-2 record.  Without winning the division, Maye is out of the race.  The Pats are still in the driver's seat for the division as it stands now though.   I could see Stafford losing out if the Rams don't win their division.   May well come down to QB on the team with the best record.

Yeah, that's basically what I said.

Then he won't win it either, if that ends up being the case.

As dumb as this seems, if Allen has a tremendous game and the Bills win and Maye has a total clunker this week, Allen will catapult to the top. It’s dumb atmospheric stuff like that that creates the narrative you need to win.
