MarlinTheMagician Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Was surprised to see FoxSports rankings based on yards after this week. We are 2nd in offense and 8th in defense?! It has not looked nearly that good to me under the "eye test", but if the D can really be a true top 10 unit and the offense can get it together - we could have something with that kind of balance. Lotta season left. 2 1 Quote
BillytheKid Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago You know who else finished with the number 2 rated offense and number 8 rated defense? The 2014 Patriots who won the Super Bowl. They finished 12-4 in the regular season. 4 Quote
boater Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago The problem is: you don't know which Bills will show up. The Bills who manhandled the Chiefs or Panthers--or the Bills who collapsed at Texans/Dolphins. I would score those two versions of the Bills very differently. 1 3 1 Quote

I don’t think you can put the Texans in the same category as the Dolphins. The Texans defense is legit. Although I do think the Bills will beat them if the Bills have most of their guys back and we play them again. Quote
johndhall1 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Currently 6th in points for and twelfth in points against. The only stats that matter imho. 1 1 Quote
TheBrownBear Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) Does anyone remember that San Diego Chargers team that finished both first in total Offense and Defense, but somehow still missed the playoffs at 9-7? Edited 1 hour ago by TheBrownBear 2 1 Quote

Good memory! That was a crazy anomaly that year for them. Quote

Crazy humid game and super short rest on the road is what happened against the Texans and Dolphins and Falcons... Quote

They didn't have a super short rest vs Atlanta. They played New England on a SNF and then Atlanta on the road on MNF did they not? They actually had an extra day... Quote
Comebackkid Posted 48 minutes ago Posted 48 minutes ago not to mention..even the Jets beat Atlanta..which..also not to mention the game against the Jets we looked like a world beater rushing team. Quote
Chicken Boo Posted 44 minutes ago Posted 44 minutes ago A prime example of how stats don't tell the entire story. 1 Quote

Haha damn you, I tosses Atlanta in there because I knew it was an off Sunday game and made an assumption...I was at a networking happy hour event tonight and had a drink or two...haha I was soooo close to making my point Atlanta was a bad loss, but at the same time the bills are a very reliant on a good game script team that also ironically is not always great in the first half...it's very confusing, but I was definitely not right about including Atlanta in there Quote

Dolphins had three extra days because of TNF. The other two losses their wasn't a rest advantage. Edited 37 minutes ago by Doc Brown 1 Quote
zow2 Posted 41 minutes ago Posted 41 minutes ago The D getting better gives me hope plus i think the Bills are done “mailing in” games. They should be intense from here on out. It’s. basically playoffs every week now, unless they are locked in for week 17 and then maybe guys get rested. Quote

They had not only the worst Special Teams unit in the league that year but one of the worst special teams units of all time in 2010. So much so that giving up the least yards per game defensively and gaining the most yards on offense they still managed to only be 9-7 and miss the playoffs. The Special Teams unit contributed to their turnover margin not being that great (at +6 it wasn't bad but just above average) and the Special Teams frequently gave opposing offenses short fields to work with so the defense yards allowed was somewhat inflated by not having that many yards to give up (although they still ranked 10th in terms of points per game). That team was best on offense and defense in the league that year but freaking historically awful on special teams. Their average margin of victory was 14 points their margin defeat was 4.4 points. All of their losses were by one possession margins. Shows you how important special teams are... 1 Quote
