Allen missed a wide open Knox on the final play

It’s easy to post criticism like this thread if you pretend everything’s in slow motion and you can instantly reposition your body and throw.  Knox came open after the throwing motion was started.  
 

More importantly, it was 4th down and Josh knew he had to QUICKLY get the ball out before the Houston defender diving at his legs resulted in his 9th sack.  Getting sacked on 4th down at the end of games happens to NFL QBs more than people realize. We’re just accustomed to Josh NOT doing that.  
 

Josh played a good game considering the constant heavy pass rush and getting hit over and over. I’m just glad he avoided getting injured.

That's if Knox even catches it, right? He was wide open and those are the ones he drops.

It’s incredible how people start these posts and have no idea…

 

1) As BuffaloBillyG said, due to OPI it wouldn’t have counted anyway.

 

2) Palmer was who the play was designed for. He was the bread the whole way. Knox was supposed to set a pick for Palmer to get free but he was just a step too late.

if the throw was completed to Knox and he gets the first down the Texans accept the penalty and the Bills get another down. Yes it would have been 4th and long but 4th and long is better than the end of the game. 
 

Not sure why people aren’t understanding that. 

I get that part, but that’s not what some of these people are arguing……they’re arguing that Allen missed a touchdown on the play when it wouldn’t have counted.

I think the killer was bonehead Dawkins' false start on the 17 on a 3rd and 1.  Good job Dion.  Under a minute to go, Bills driving with some momentum, and that happens.  Getting tired of his false starts.

For future GENERAL reference for everyone:

 

SEEING AN OPEN PERSON ON THE FIELD DOES NOT MEAN ANYTHING WITHOUT CONTEXT.

 

Read that bolded section over and over again.

 

1) The QB goes through progressions. The open receiver is often open AFTER the QB passes him in the progression. 

 

2) Many plays are designed to get certain people open - like Palmer. That’s what happened on this play. And Allen was pressured making him unable to move on.

They were screaming at the TV and missed the part where the refs called Offensive pass interference on that play.

 

Also there is a picture going around of Allen looking towards Knox as he breaks open thanks to the Davis pick and you see TWO rushers coming in unblocked at Allen.  They are in the middle of their sprint and are coming in from BOTH sides.  They are about 3 & 4yards away from Allen in the picture.  Assuming they can cover 40 yards in less then 5 seconds Allen had less then a half a second to set his feet and fire that pass off.

The main problem here is not max protecting especially in a crucial situation after getting pressured all game. He would've hit whoever clean here

Despite everything, that sure looked like defensive PI to me.

 

One of our receivers is tackled in the middle of the field during his route.

 

Even the Texans seemed to be convinced that flag was going to  be on them.

 

Surprised this isn't getting any attention given all the things that have.

It's the 2nd one in the clip starting at 28 seconds. Here's what Allen sees as Knox is breaking open:

 

 

So we are wanting Allen to throw the ball through a charging defender completely blind to what is going on at Knox's area of the field. Okay.

 

Also not that it matters but the throw to Palmer is there if Palmer comes back to the ball. He instead starts running upfield. But I don't blame Palmer or any player for this crap play. This is on Brady for calling mesh for the 10,000th time in this game. Your OL has gotten worked all night and you call a play that asks your QB to stand in the pocket holding the ball while routes develop. Awful awful awful.

Honestly, I’ve never liked Thursday night games win or lose. Having only 3-4 days of rest, recuperation and preparation just isn’t good on any level. It’s one of the many greed moves that bothers me.

I think the argument isn’t that it would count but would have demonstrated better vision by Allen. I speaks to Josh being rattled or not seeing open guys. Penalty isn’t relevant.

#1- It's stunning how much of the Houston defense has that thing read before the Bills even snap the ball. Brady is in over his head against NFL defenses.

 

#2- I didn't realize in real time that Palmer had broken it off.  If that's a designed option route, Palmer actually makes the right read. Unfortunately Edwards (who has about 6 games left in Buffalo) chased a a zone dawg upfield instead of dropping into passpro where he probably would have disrupted the twist and given Allen the time he needed.
