Chris Jones is right and reporters are wrong. I just found it in a new amendment to the NFL bylaws - section 117(8)(d) which reads:

A team eliminated from playoff contention will not be permitted to progress to the wildcard round unless all of the following circumstances apply:

(i) they wear red;

(ii) they have appeared at least 100,000 times in prime time during the previous five seasons;

(iii) their star player is dating a pop star; and

(iv) their Head Coach has a moustache.

As the fun of yesterday wears off, I'm realizing the Chiefs will end up with a Top 10 draft position this year, and likely next year too since Mahomes will probably miss at least half the year.

Meanwhile, we'll be dealing with Beane stumbling through being cute at pick #28 and whiffing on talent...

They’re not particularly good at drafting either you know.

CEH and Skyy Moore were complete busts, Worthy seems pretty average, Felix Anudike isn’t a starter, and so forth.

For all the celebrations, I'd have been far happier facing the Chiefs than the Ravens in the play offs, despite the history. I'm thinking about pulling for the Pats next week and I feel dirty for it.

None of those players you named were top 10 picks. Which is the whole point of the post.

32, 54, 28, 31. No man's land. Right where we'll be picking still.

The last time they picked in the top 10 they landed... checks notes... a guy named Patrick Lavon Mahomes II. How did he turn out?

You dont have to be a genius to draft in the top 10. #10 last year gets them a Brock Bowers, or Jared Verse, or BTJ.

They’ve only drafted in the Top 10 twice since 2010, I believe. Eric Fisher in 2013 was the other one.

Their first round drafting has just been okay.

So 100% on top 10 picks. Tougher drafting in the late-20s plus. Exactly my point. Thank you.

This isnt Cheifs-specific either. That's just generally how the draft works. I'd expect Beane to hit big on a top 10 pick too.

Nothing is guaranteed, but your chances are better the earlier you pick.
