He did so well as a position coach, that most had high hopes for him coming in. Unfortunately our defense has performed poorly during his stint.

I had and still have hope for Bobby

I don't think most people here realize the immense stress NFL coaches are under.. literally gives people like Urban Meyer heart attacks

It's super stressful

Bobby has walked into one of the most successful franchises in the NFL recently and has the task of calling defense for a team that the fan base is screaming for a super bowl

He's obviously feeling it... Some people take stress better than others.. some people perform in stress better than others

I've always been a big Sean McDermott guy here and like I've always said he trust his coordinators enough to coach

Which is actually how it should be.. at the NFL level

But he's also taking it into his own hands which shows accountability because he's not going to sit by for 17 games and watch his job go

Well this should shut down any doubts that Sean McDermott is crappy

He should be able to trust his coordinators if you don't you should fire them

Obviously Sean McDermott can call a great defense but he has his fingerprints all over this roster so he needs to let his coaches coach

If they can't trust you they're not going to be in the right mind to call a good game

The writing for Babuch is on the wall

Unless I'm mistaken McD mentioned Aaron Kromer in the run game and thanked him for his contribution. This kind of gave me the impression that the writing for Babich might not be the only name on the wall. The passing offense for Buffalo has looked pathetic in the last few games. Could be that Joe Brady might be feeling the heat soon. Just speculation.

And also, Saying he called plays isn't throwing Babich under the bus.

That's a pretty obtuse analysis.

If your boss told people he had to take over some of your work, you'd be at least a bit embarrassed.  Or you should be.

If McDermott said he was calling plays, there would be nothing unprofessional or wrong with that statement.

It's no different than a player getting benched. It's the national football league and it's a performance based league for players and coaches

The list of offensive head coaches who call plays is very long. Just off the top of my head:

  • Andy Reid
  • Kyle Shanahan
  • Sean Payton
  • Sean McVey
  • Mike McDaniel
  • Zac Taylor
  • Liam Coen
  • Shane Steichen
  • Kevin O'Connell
  • Kevin Stefanski

Why is it so odd for a head coach to call defensive plays?

It isn't and it was time for it to happen.   He handled the question well.   Its not an easy one to answer, given to what it means to the other guy professionally

There ya go

That's like saying Taylor Swift and I are selling albums.  "We" are, but I've sold none and she sells a billion.

I never said it was.  But smart coaches with self control choose their comments in ways that foster & preserve the competitive psyche of their contributors over the long haul.  Discussing the playcalling takeover with nuance was a conscious choice.

I know some posters last game insisted he wasn't, but if I see him cover his mouth with a play sheet and talk on the mic between every defensive snap, and not do that on O, then I know MCD is calling them plays.

It's such a better d when MCD calls it, he's gotta do it

When, whichever one of you that typed that, will probably see fit to give me an unknown usual infraction

Good grief.  McDermott has his faults (like any coach) but having him step in to help with the D (when Babich is clearly not

performing his job well) should be celebrated.  Then again, on this board lately...................

So there are people on this board who have a problem with McD calling plays when the D looked the best it has so far? Holy sht people. I couldn’t care less who calls the plays as long as the D is playing well. Get a grip.
