Was Drake Maye THAT good yesterday?

People act like Maye didn't look damn good as a rookie last year on an absolute train wreck of a team. He has picked up exactly where he left off and is playing outstanding football. Just because we're all Bills fans doesn't mean we can't give credit where it is due, as much as we may dislike it.

The kid is good.  It’s nuts to boil success down to a single player with the most team dependent sport there is.   
 

Bills’ fans, more than any other fanbase, should know this to be true.   
 

The concern I have is that he’s getting higher quality decision makers putting pieces in place to give him success that won’t be his success alone but will be the team’s success and yet will be bestowed upon him.    Feel like we have been here before.

Is it really all that hard for some of you to just give some credit to the QB? The dude is playing well. Its not that hard to admit.

I’m not taking anything away from him or his play. I thought he looked good last season, I think he looks good this season. My comment was directed more at those demonstrating maudlin overreaction to a bad game by the Bills against the Patriots, and an otherwise easy stretch of defenses recently faced by the Patriots. There are people wringing their hands and gnashing their teeth today in response to a Patriots win over the Titans in a manner befitting the loss of a family pet. It would be funny if it wasn’t so over the top LAMPish.

He's a good QB. But Mac Jones & Tua also looked decent at first as well. DC's are going to get more and more tape on him.

Funny thing is today, the Receivers bailed Maye out on like a handful of throws by making ridiculous catches like Hoopers TD catch, and Pop Douglas ridiculous 4th down one handed catch.. and well Boutte did something so many receivers don’t do he stretched his arms out for the catch and TD.. I think (and only my opinion) he is making our WR better most of the time and now they are making plays they wouldn’t have last year .

Mac Jones got hosed by BB.. Tua has had how many concussions now? I’m pretty sure that’s affected his game.. you’re right they will get film on him but how do you defend a perfectly thrown ball? Thats what’s impressed me is how accurate he is even on the deep balls.

I said it leading up to the draft and on draft night, Maye had the highest ceiling in the draft.  And if I was going to take a QB, he was the one I would take the gamble on.  I wasn’t thrilled to see him end up in NE, and we are seeing that concern come full circle already.  IMHO, Maye is on his way to becoming a top 10 QB in this league for years to come.  

 

Said the same thing about Dart this year, except with Dart I went a step further and stated he was flat out the best QB in this draft.

How do you evaluate WR talent? Maybe you should give the Bills your resume?

I said it after Maye was drafted.........i did not want him coming to the AFCEast (of course, my BIlls Mafia counterpart poo-pooed me that i didn't know what i was talking about, blah, blah, blah)

 

The kid is the real deal and we're going to be in a world of hurt if we don't get our shiza together.

I think Maye is a good solid QB and it pains me to say that as he is on the Pats (an organization that deserves to be bottom dwellers for a decade if there was such a thing as karma). He also seems to work well with McDaniels who has tailored a nice offensive gameplan for him.  That being said I find it infuriating that we made it as easy as possible for him to beat us 2 weeks ago. Just like we made it as easy as possible for Penix (who is middling talent) to beat us last week. Why is it that teams were able to make Josh look terrible on occasion in his first 2 years by using sophisticated defenses and mixing things up to confuse a young QB (Belichick did this among others) but Babich and McD could not? I honestly think that if we replaced Babich with a real time AI DC we would probably do better than currently even with the injuries and lack of talent on the D. Same goes for our offense.

Maye is for real, can make every throw, runs very well, good awareness, mature kid. He's already as good as Herbert or Burrow, all 3 are clones. But you can't really judge much from beating up on Tennessee, they are terrible.

 

The next 3 games are Cleveland, Atlanta, Tampa - all good defenses. NE's OL is spotty, the RB's are below average, WR's are average. If Maye plows through those 3 in a similar manner then you'd have to say NE is a threat in the AFC.

sure, he is playing well and looks to have a high ceiling but this is not even a full season yet and there are a lot of questions marks still. to sustain this they will need to rely on Diggs being able to play, Hollins being serviceable as a #3, the two other guys being slightly better than JAGs, the OL continuing the flourish, and sustain some hope of a running game. the trend will continue and it will be a simple opportunity for defenses to play a 3 man front nickel base with the extra man at linebacker spying him.

 

he's playing at Mac Jones ceiling despite having more potential going forward to have a better career at this point - 1.25 years into it.

 

the jury must remain "still out."

 

what would it take for me to begin to think more critically of them at this point? a strategic beating of the Falcons that Maye orchestrates as at the least a game manager because that Falcons defense is well coached, well designed, and potent.  then the following week the ability to keep up with Bucs who can score a lot of points and have a solid complete temam. 

 

they'll finish the season with the Bills who have a lot to play for and the Ravens who will have given up and I imagine booboo baby Jackson will sit the last few weeks when eliminated to keep his stats clean because he has some mysterious injury.

I expect Maye to have significantly worse stat lines the next 3 weeks against those good pass defenses. If he doesn't then look out.
