Lose on purpose?

If the game is in hand and there haven’t been any turnovers, should the Bills lose a fumble on purpose to end their streak of games not losing the turnover battle?  To me, yes.  Why:

 

1 reason against is it would be nice to keep the streak.

 

2 reasons for include both proving we can win games even when we have more turnovers and also every week we don’t lose the turnover battle increases the odds that the following week we will.  It would be far better to have that happen now than against a team like KC.

We were even with the Saints in the turnover battle which left us still due to lose one.  We did.  And we lost the turnover battle and game to a divisional rival the very next week.  We’d be 5-0 if we hadn’t lost the turnover battle with the Pats wouldn’t we?

You're a genius. I think another 3 losses and some serious injuries to key players and that Lombardi trophy is pretty much ours

I must've missed this thread first time around.  But to think any pro football players would make a bad play on purpose to end a streak is silly.  

 

The home winning streak, the streak of not losing the turnover battle, the SNF or prime time winning streak... all came to an end vs New England.  There's no guarantee they will start new streaks in the positive direction.  Maybe they lose the turnover ratio for 5 of the next 6 games.  You just never know how sports goes? That's why we all love the NFL... it's unpredictable week to week.

Apologize for What exactly? 
 

So because we didn’t purposely lose the turnover battle to the Saints it caused us to lose it to the Pats? 
 

So now it’s all of the message boards fault for not agreeing that we need to just give the ball away on purpose for the fun of it? 
 

Let me explain something a little genius here:

 

Whether we purposely lost the turnover battle to the Saints or not wouldn’t have any outcome on if we lost the turnover battle to the Patriots.
 

We would have just given the Saints the ball on purpose, because according to you it is a “genius” idea. 
 

Those same plays in the Pats game would have still happened just like they did. 
 

So again What is anyone supposed to apologize for?

I didn't respond initially. I was trying to figure out if you were serious or just trying to get a laugh out of whatever responses you'd get, maybe a bit like Jimmy Spags. 

 

The entire premise is close to the stupidest thing I've seen on this board, and we've all seen some very stupid things posted. How losing a turnover battle would be a good thing absolutely makes no sense whatsoever. Or, the idea that winning many in a row, whether it's 25 games or 525 games, has any implication for the next game that it means we will lose the turnover battle. 

 

I didn't read the entire thread, but I did see someone, maybe you, say something about "what does a coin flip have to do with it?" So, if turnovers were completely random, then it would be extremely unlikely that you'd win the battle 26 straight games as it's extremely unlikely that you'd flip a coin and get "heads" 26 straight times. In fact, the odds are 0.5 raised to the 26ths power or approximately one in 67 million. However, if you're flipped it 25 times, the odds of flipping it a 26th time and getting a heads is 50%. So, if betting on tails just because there were already 25 heads is still the same as the first flip, a 50/50 chance. Maybe less because I'd wonder if the coin is weighted wrong or both sides are heads.

 

In football, it's not entirely random, kind of like a weighted coin. So, even if it was random the odds of losing after 25 straight wins of the turnover battle would be even odds. But, the reason a team wins this battle 25 times in a row is because they're awfully good at it. In that case, odds are good that you WILL WIN the battle a 26th time in a row unless the other team is even better at it than you.

 

I still am pretty sure you're joking and looking for reactions. I've been reading your posts for years and never thought of you as clueless. I just wasted 5 minutes of my life that I can never get back responding, but I couldn't help myself any longer!
