Figured something was happening here. What does groin doctor have to say about this?

He told him he should have never got married to a women with a very high labido because this is what comes of it when you are a NFL kicker it shortens your career by years !!!

But dam if it wasn't fun while it lasted ...

For us more casual fans, who is Manning referring to? 🤔

And after seeing some of the comments, we only need 'Buffalo Super Fan' to contribute to the thread for the definitive word. 😁

Colts' former kicker Mike Vanderjagt.  He made some dumb comments in an interview and that was Manning's reply.  We still use "idiot kicker" whenever we talk smack about kickers in our house.

It was cool seeing Travis Henry catch a TD in that clip, even if it was thrown by Rich Gannon.  :)

the start of this season sucks

I’ve been down on the ‘25 season for a while now…

We have a superbowl caliber QB, on a team, that does not have a Super Bowl caliber roster…

It’s like fools gold…

I've always thought that it would terrify the league if we decided not to have any kickers on the roster.  Just go for it on 4th all the time, no matter where they are on the field.

Not sure how it would work out, but it's a fun thought.

I think we're headed towards going on 4th often.  I think it makes sense too.  Not every time, or every where on the field.  But just about every time it's 4th and 1 or 2.

I struggle to understand why if they’ve known about Bass’s injury and what he’s been dealing with, why they weren’t proactive in having a plan B in case he isn’t or wouldn’t be ready for week 1?

Who were they going to get that’s better than what they got?

It's Kicker. They line up and they kick. Your Kicker's hurt? You bring in a new Kicker. Bass got hurt, we signed Prater.

Why do you need to plan ahead beyond that? It's not like he needs to learn a playbook or develop chemistry with other positions.

As for why they didn't sign Prater until now, it's pretty obvious that there was either a reaggravation and/or they thought the injury wasn't as bad as it was. The plan was for him to be ready to roll Week 1. They even had him kick in the last Pre-Season game. Obviously, something changed and their plans changed and they decided to shut it down.

Point remains the same though. What's it matter if Prater was here earlier or when we got him? The job remains the same. He kicks off a tee on Kickoffs, he lines up and kicks field goals and extra points. I don't see his performance being better or worse coming in now vs. then.

Seems kinda shaky having a 41-year old kicking off under the new rules.  I wonder if they would consider having Ray Davis practice kicking off…if he could do it well enough, then you’d have another big, fast player on the field instead of an old, slow guy who would not want to even try to tackle anyone.

Absolutely not.  Why is it not a viable plan?

Matt Prater has a booming leg. And, ya know - is an actual Kicker. Even at 40 last season, he was still making 50+ yard kicks.

Ray Davis kicked a couple extra points. Didn't get a lot of air on those XP's either. There's a reason he didn't Kick Off - they used Caden Davis for those. He's not booming Kickoffs.

You know the rule changed, right? You don’t want to “boom” kickoffs now.

You Kickoff from your own 35. Even if you're kicking it to just the opposing 15, you're booming it 50 yards. You can't really think Ray Davis has 50-55 yard kicks in him

You want Ray Davis Kicking off, he'll be Kicking it to where they'd be on a Touchback under the new rules anyways.

Matt Prater is an actual Kicker. 41 years old doesn't mean he's broken down. Kickers in their 40's is fairly common. If there were a concern on whether he could handle Kickoffs - we'd have brought someone else in.
