Doc Brown Posted August 27 Posted August 27 Beane after dark strikes again. Obviously Tabor wanted him for teams. Would be nice to know if it was a practice squad signing or a roster signing. 1 Quote
gobills404 Posted August 27 Posted August 27 We’re still doing the “ex-panther” bit in 2025? 1 1 2 3 Quote

Unless this is a "Bills will sign him to the PS, if he clears waivers" announcement, but that's not how it's being framed. And no one really does that bc no one knows who's clearing waivers or not at this point. He's a vested veteran and does not have to clear waivers. He can sign wherever he wants and cannot be claimed by another team. 3 1 Quote

I was under the impression that the rules for who isn't subject to waivers were longer than just 4 seasons. 6 minutes ago, Doc Brown said: Agree to disagree. At this point it would honestly be funny if Beane just starts signing as many former panthers as possible just to mess with people. 1 Quote
BillsFanForever19 Posted August 27 Posted August 27 (edited) If it is a 53 man roster signing, i'd look at Cam Lewis as the guy out the door to make room. WR and Safety are the only spots where we're carrying more than the minimum. And if they feel good about Jordan Hancock stepping in right away and filling that backup Hybrid Safety/Nickel (which from what he's shown is likely) and Franklin taking his spot on Special Teams - cutting him would also save 1.76m on the Cap. GunnerBill Posted August 27 Posted August 27 Gotts be for one of the DBs. Hamlin, Lewis, maybe Ingram. 1 1 Quote

I think he's the first guy up after Rapp and Bishop. His contract is also guaranteed wherein a cut would cost them 750k on the general Cap and result in 2m in Dead Cap. I don't think it would be Ingram. We only kept Benford, White, Strong, and Ingram - which is generally the minimum for the Boundary. On top of that, it hasn't been said with 100% certainty that White will play Week 1. If he doesn't, that would leave us with just Benford and Strong Week 1. My money is on Cam. Like I said, they have to like what they've seen from Jordan Hancock who positionally is a clone of what Cam's been. Hancock covers that spot, Franklin covers Lewis on Special Teams, and cutting Lewis saves 1.76m on the Salary Cap - which would cover the 1.3m due on Franklin and then a little more. CSBill Posted August 27 Posted August 27 TBD Public Service Announcement: The "gotta be an exPanther or Beane won't sign him" bit is long over, and even more critically, it is not witty anymore and has no comedic value. Can we put it to rest? 8 2 3 3 1 Quote

Can't disagree with your reasoning. I dunno I have always just got the sense McDermott loves him some Cam Lewis and he himself is also a core STer. So if the objective here is to make special teams better not sure losing Cam Lewis from the roster helps? Maybe they trade a receiver? But then can you really justify keeping TWELVE defensive backs? 1 1 Quote
