In retrospect, I wish he had missed this kick as I believe the bills would have a new kicker this season. That one kick bought him another season.

Tyler Bass makes you clench your ass. Good campaign slogan for Ray Davis

I think the 53 yarder against the Ravens in those weather conditions also granted him another season. If he missed that, it’s possible they’d be looking - at least for competition.

Bass started right where he had left off. Every kick seems like an adventure. I was really beginning to like that other guy we had. Keep him on speed dial, Mr. Beane.

Any updates on his pelvis ?

It tends to fade to the right when he walks.

True enough. The most recent context is yesterday against the Bucs.

He was good from 37, 37, and 39 yards, missed from 26 yards and was 2-2 on PATs (33 yards).

FWIW, of his 6 kicks, only one went straight down the middle. All the others flirted with the uprights.

He makes me nervous.

I would be much more nervous if he wasn't hurt and not getting a chance to practice. I still have my concerns but my concern level is a 4 out of 10 whereas had he not been hurt it would be pushing a 8-9 out of 10.

Tyler Bass is an average NFL kicker. It's wild how many people think he's a bottom tier guy. He makes about 85% of his kicks. That's right on pace with league average.

He only missed 1 FG but all his kicks were close to missing the target. First game back from injury so maybe he'll find his groove but I'm holding my breath on every kick.

I feel like Tyler Bass is always “shaky.” Every time he’s going to kick, he strolls up to the field like a sad puppy. Projecting zero confidence, but he ends up making them. He typically misses about 4 FGs a year which is pretty normal.

It's also wild how so many people defend him forcefully, call him "Bassmatic", and think he is an upper echelon guy. Every kick with Bass is an adventure.

Bass kicks everything on an angle. It makes no sense, because the effective distance between the goalposts shrinks as the approach angle of the ball increases. But that seems to be the way he likes to kick them.

All that said, Bass is overall a fine kicker who is unfortunately prone to cold spells. I would love for the Bills to someday land one of those sure-thing kickers. I don't think Butker gets nearly enough credit for the Chiefs' success. People talk a lot about what would happen in the Bills and Chiefs traded QBs - I would like to see them swap kickers!

Accurate but his kicks have too low of a trajectory.

Agreed, he really hits a knuckle ball but I like having him as a safety kicker for sure, also wouldn't mind a direct snap to him and run for it.

He also made the third most total XP and had the 17th best XP kicking percentage. So he had a very average season.

I don't know what the agenda is here or why you'd try to use raw misses without also pointing out the number of makes and attempts.

He's been below average the last 2 seasons:

Year FG % Ranking PAT
2020 82.4 18th 96.6
2021 87.5 13th 100
2022 87.1 12th 96
2023 82.8 24th 98
2024 82.8 21st 92.2

For rankings i'm only counting kickers with 10+ starts in that season.

And he's been awful in the postseason with 78.3% FG and 91.7% PAT.

Unfortunately we gave him a pretty large contract (for a kicker) after his 3rd season, only for him to regress badly in years 4 and 5.

I thought he had kicked his way out of the yips with that 61 yarder vs Dolphins last year, but his pre-season performance has me worried.

He's like a golfer who can't fix his slice. So he can make 85% of his kicks from the left hash but God help us if its on the right.

IMO he looked like he always looks.  Kicks tailing to the right.

Yea he is never a straight down the highway kicker.

His kicks were fine apart from the chip shot. He is always going to flirt with the uprights a bit.
