Maybe ball control, inching down the field, milking the clock even early, using Allen's legs and the tush push to eke out fourth downs. And hope the Ravens don't score on every possession. Too pessimistic? Allen is a god, easily the best player in the league, and he'll make a few spectacular plays. But will that be enough? Quote
H2o Posted September 4 Posted September 4 The injuries this year hit early on and just keep coming. I worry about Josh feeling the need to go full-blown Superman mode from the jump in week 1. The Ravens will be missing two key players as well in Likely and Ricard. Ricard is the one out there knocking two and three people out of the way in the run game. Hope it's a good game, and the Bills come out with that week 1 W. We're almost there now. 1 Quote

RunTheBall Posted September 4 Posted September 4 The first game is always such a crap shoot. I’ll worry about the injuries once we see the inactive list on Sunday night. The Bills will hold back anyone with even a minor soreness out of practice so we really have no idea how significant the recent ones are. If they are missing Richard and Likely thats 2 guys who usually destroy us and should give our D some breathing room especially if the revamped D line shows up. That’s the key right there - keep the LB’s clean to make tackles and contain rush Lamar. Quote

Assuming Benford plays.. The hope is probably this: Our ends have to contain rush on Lamar and set the edge against the run. The good thing is Bosa & Rousseau are elite run defenders and Epenesa/Jackson both have frames to do the above. Walker & Sanders have to be ready from jump. Nothing more needs to be said. Oliver & Jones should be fine but we’re going to need our two rookies to be ready to step up out the gate. Milano, Bernard and Johnson along with Williams all have to stay healthy this game and make an impact. Reason to believe they can. Especially with no Likely and if Ricard doesn’t play (Would help Taron a lot). Benford & Rapp need to stabilize the secondary and we’ll need Bishop & whoever plays CB2 to be serviceable, at least. Honestly, I think it all comes down to the DL. We don’t know what this starting line looks like with Bosa. Does his presence also help level up Oliver and Rousseau? Then we need our rookies to make an impact out the gate. If they can.. we’re in this.. if not.. our rotation will get eaten up and it will stress our back seven a ton. 1 Quote
SCBills Posted September 4 Posted September 4 2 hours ago, Einstein said: He is pretty much our only chance imo. Him going superhero. We have 5 hurt starters. Benford, Tre, Bass, Shakir, Coleman Even if a couple of them play, they’re going to be playing at less than 100%. If players play, they’re ready to go. Football isn’t some sport where you get to be 100% all the time. Shakir is practicing in full. We don’t know how serious or not serious Coleman’s issue is. Benford, by all reports, is moving just fine. Tre and Bass, sure. Not ideal. Ravens are also down Likely.. and Ricard hasn’t been practicing. We have no Hairston, they have no Alexander. Hoecht and Ogunjobi would be great to have for this game.. especially Hoecht, but maybe the silver lining is we get to deploy him against them if we see them in the playoffs with them not seeing him. Hes made for a game like this. If guys are out there, they’re expected to play at a high level. Josh Allen played half of last year with a broken hand. It’s football. 2 Quote
zow2 Posted September 4 Posted September 4 So right out of the gate, WR Coleman, who is predicted to be one of the breakout players of the year suddenly has a groin issue. Those things linger. And Shakir in practice video yesterday certainly did not look 100% on the gimpy high ankle. Then you have Bass and the other guys. Football is so frustrating that so many guys get injuries and soft tissue problems in practice. Not just the Bills, but all teams. Quote
Coffeesforclosers Posted September 4 Posted September 4 If players are dinged up, especially week one, sit them and take the lumps. December and January are more important than September. Making guys gut out injuries to play week one is stone aged thinking, especially on a perennial contender. Quote

How do you get Shakir "did not look 100%" from a quick video that we all saw where he looked good?? He will play and be fine. Coleman too - it's all just table talk. Yet again It seems like the story nationally for sure...and even in the local Buffalo media to a certain extent is that Baltimore is an unstoppable juggernaut on Offense and a roster that is littered with high end talent. If McD wants to move the needle with Bills fans, and everyone else for that matter, the 1st step is coming up with a game plan Sunday night that stuffs the run and confuses Lamar just enough to get him to hold it a bit longer and try to be superman on most plays. The Bills were 9th in QB pressure last year and they added Bosa and the Draft pick kids. I have to leave Hoecht out right now and that is heartbreaking...lol... Still, that is a significant talent upgrade to go along with Groot and Oliver. But at the end of the day they have to get off the field on 3rd down. Those D-linemen either have to get home, or force the incompletion. And the way I look at it McD and Babich have had a full off season to laser focus on the glaring Defensive issues. It has to look better Sunday night... Ravens or not. 😎 3 1 1 Quote

BuffaloBaumer Posted September 4 Posted September 4 I have not felt this hopeless about a game since the first KC playoff game 4 years ago. I still think they win the division and host a playoff game, but man, I am fully prepared to lose by 10 and then regroup the rest of the season. 1 2 Quote

Process Posted September 4 Posted September 4 Are Bills fans the most pessimistic fans in sports? Some of these pots are both comical and delusional. I wouldn't be surprised if we lost. If we do, I still think we get the 1 seed. I also wouldn't be surprised if we won.... "Hopeless" lol 2 2 1 Quote

"Hopeless" lol Being pessimistic about one game is just being realistic, not delusional. If Benford and White are out, it is going to be extremely tough to win this one. Add in the doubts about the 2 safeties and a new Dline just adds to the reality of the situation. I still believe this team has what it takes to get to the Super Bowl, but it's going to take a bit to get this defense to where it needs to be. Look at the Ravens last season; they turned around their whole defense towards the end of the season and caught fire in the playoffs. 2 Quote
