Figster Posted August 19 Posted August 19 (edited) How well will the irrigation system work to keep the grass in good playing condition is my question. Heated grass melts the snow into water. 6 ft of snow creates allot of water the system is expected to remove while keeping the field playable. Will it fog up the stadium? Is it possible an easily removable cover can be placed over the field for protection? I'm skeptical, but love grass from an injury perspective... Edited August 19 by Figster Quote

I'm skeptical, but love grass from an injury perspective... wondered this myself…part of the calculus nowadays is that with the league revenue being so high you can just pre-schedule to rip up the turf and re-sod from scratch 2-3 times a year. A complete premium grass re-sod can be done for $200-$300k - about half the cost of league minimum veteran. 1 1 Quote

Interesting perspective Romovable pitch perhaps for different venues and grass maintenance might be wise? https://sportsrender.com/2024/08/26/top-removable-pitch-stadiums-around-the-world/#google_vignette Edited August 19 by Figster 1 Quote

I'd assume there's something down there to pump water out into the piss troughs 🙂 Even playing touch football, i felt a noticable difference when i switched from turf to grass. I did an indoor session at the new UB field house a year or two ago, and my ankles and knees just straight up hurt the next day. I know they can get taped up pretty well by a trainer vs. me doing it myself but man it was hard to walk some days. Edited August 19 by Bleeding Bills Blue 1 Quote

Based on my ailing memory, maybe partook in a little too much of it... kids, this is why they tell you not to do drugs. Edited August 19 by transient 1 2 Quote

There's a hell of a lot of technology being applied to the field - I would be very surprised if everything hasn't been thought of and it hasn't been engineered to handle even worst case scenarios Edited August 19 by stevewin Quote

It's a system where if Buffalo gets 50 mile winds again like the game against NE a few years back, they can take 20 mile per winds and spread the additional 30mph over the next 4 home games. 2 Quote

Most heavy snows in Buffalo have wind as well, and I think the idea is that the way the stadium is designed to deflect the wind, it will also keep a lot of snow out, as well. It's a bit like the way the wind in the back of a pickup is designed to circulate when it's driven, creating a kind of wind lid over the bed. I think that's the plan anyway....curious to see how it works out in practice. Not sure if someone has mentioned but it also has permanently installed grow lights, which is pretty cool. 2 Quote
