oldmanfan Posted August 18 Posted August 18 I am not the sort to panic over a couple preseason games but I have noticed that, in both games so far, the quick pass has been pretty successful. It nullified the rush for the most part, and sitting in zone allowed WRs to get open in a regular basis. So I’m wondering if this might force a switch from a zone dominant scheme more to a man concept. Many here are much better scholars of strategy than me so please weigh in. 7 1 Quote
BananaB Posted August 18 Posted August 18 What we seen last night is a lot of what we see in the playoffs against Chiefs. Difference is Allen is moving the ball chewing up time and putting points on the board. D system is soft. 4 1 9 3 Quote
Xwnyer Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Tired of the soft zone tampa 2 scheme. Playing 10 yards off receivers, safeties 20 yards deep and heading away from LOS at snap lots of open area just over the LBs 1 4 3 2 Quote
dorquemada Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Somehow, despite all the draft capital spend on the DL, we don’t have the horses to put pressure on the QB. I’m not sure what can be done schematically to compensate for personnel. We’re told that McD is a defensive genius, and if you don’t believe it just ask him, so we have to assume the scheme is optimized for the players and we have a season of the opponents converting 3rd and long over and over. 3 1 4 2 Quote
MPL Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Last night’s d-line consisted of 3 rookies and 1 2nd-year players — all of which are backups or players considered to be projects — against a Bears starting offense that had something to prove in Ben Johnson’s first home preseason game. These are the first game reps these guys have played against nfl starters. Of course there was no effective pass rush. Dane Jackson was your CB1 on the night against DJ Moore. Let’s all relax. Last night showed nothing. 7 4 1 4 Quote

And somewhere in there, the thinking is we get a fumble, INT, sack, etc..to stop the drive. The Bills D does a pretty good job on first and second down but they've been horrible on 3rd downs (as we all know). That has to change, 3 1 Quote

Our DL never had a chance because opposing QBs get the ball out very quickly, usually to a receiver without a defender within 5 yards of him. Quote

This is why I suggested getting more guys this offseason that could play press/ man and make a change on the DL. Philly showed the way. 2 Quote
Gregg Posted August 18 Posted August 18 I will start caring about wins and losses starting Sept 7th. All I care about right now is the Bills get out of these games with no injuries. 4 3 Quote

Yes, they should totally run their new defensive system in a meaningless preseason game for the first time so the Ravens can prepare for it... that's a fabulous idea 5 Quote
PromoTheRobot Posted August 18 Posted August 18 I don't believe we saw our real defense yet. But what we have seen is scary bad. 4 4 Quote

Nothing out of camp has suggested anything new. Oh that's right, McDermott has his own alternate universe pocket where he take the defense at night and trains the new defense. Quote

These teams meet in the regular season, so I expect both teams to have a very "vanilla" game plan for this one. 2 Quote
gonzo1105 Posted August 18 Posted August 18 The Bills had no desire to do anything last night. There were multiple times they were playing the Leslie Frazier off coverage on 3rd and 3 or playing press man cover 1 and there were about 4 or 5 times they ran a basic zone blitz where they dropped D lineman into coverage and left them on an island. They wanted to try things last night and put it on film 3 Quote
