Both not very good and you should be looking to upgrade even if it’s only depth players. They are a liability and always have been. Yeah, I dont think Dane is long for this team... at best PS incase we have a major issue... Hamlin is just not a good saftey.. he knows the system... but we need an upgrade... I havent seen Forrest play.. I heard Hancock was being looked at as a saftey, bottom line is our DBs are not good... Iike to the point that you are thinking hmmmm... is Poyer an upgrade LOL whats Ronnie Lott doing now a days... can we get AJ Klein out of the RV and convert him to saftey... LOL... 🤣 Quote
Dick_Cheney Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Personally I'm not even sure if I'm in the "he's a solid backup player" like so many people seem to be saying. Can he play the position if a starter gets hurt? Uh, technically I guess? Will I have any faith whatsoever in his performance in place of whoever the starter was? Absolutely not. 3 Quote

Billsguy Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Hamlin is just plain terrible. He is so slow it's a joke. He might be the worst safety in the league and other teams know it. Bishop had better improve drastically because right now he's looking like another Beane draft mistake. Big balls Beane better find a couple of qualified safeties or this defense will struggle mightily again this year. Quote

QB, mostly. Obviously there's more to it- But if you put the cheat code known as Josh Allen on any Doug Whaley team, chances are there's a reversal of fortunes. Quote
Jukester Posted August 18 Posted August 18 1 hour ago, Bruffalo said: The truth of it is probably somewhere in the middle. Hamlin is just good enough to be a viable in our scheme. That being said, if the defensive front isn't generating pressure then Hamlin is going to get exposed, hard. It used to be that our safeties and secondary helped hide all the problems we had with our defensive line. Now we need it to be the opposite. Whether or not it's going to work remains to be seen. Yes. I’m not a fan of Hamlin but it is definitely overreaction Monday around here after a meaningless preseason game 2 1 Quote

Some of us said last year starting Damar over Bishop would only prolong Bishops learning curve. Players learn faster on the field not the film room. Experience matters and when you’re playing guys that aren’t very good with no upside it hurts the team short term and long term. Quote

Would have liked them to go after Barron and if he didn’t fall to the 20s then grab Nick Emmanwori and then grab a FA on top of Tre; maybe Donte Jackson, St. Juste or Eric Stokes. Got to roll with what they got. I’m sure we’ll be fine. 1 Quote

It’s not true, though. Beane has given him Rapp, Bishop, Hamlin, Forrest, and Lewis at the Safety spot. Why are people blaming McDermott for the fact that Hamlin is the best option of the bunch? It’s not like he’s blocking Kyle Hamilton from getting playing time. Quote

Obviously there's more to it- But if you put the cheat code known as Josh Allen on any Doug Whaley team, chances are there's a reversal of fortunes. The team was ran horribly under Whaley. I don't think it would have mattered. He hired Doug Marrone and Rex Ryan as head coaches. And he wasn't fantastic with talent. He brought in what Jerry Hughes and LeSean McCoy? His 2014 draft sucked. His 2015 draft sucked. His 2016 draft sucked. What exactly did he do? And Donahoe brought in Bledsoe. You can't say he did nothing about it. He also brought in Troy Vincent, Takeo Spikes, London Fletcher, Lawyer Milloy. He drafted guys like Aaron Schoebel, Travis Henry, Nate Clements, Willis McGahee, Lee Evans. But he also hired 2 idiot head coaches with Gregg Williams and Mike Milarkey. And I don't think McDermott was a Whaley hire. That was Terry and Kim. Beane is better than any GM we have had since Butler. That's a fact Edited August 18 by Buffalo03 Quote

Is what it is If he’s not getting cut why did the Bills let him get to free agency and then only signed him for 1 year? We all will have a special place for Hamlin but this is about winning a Super Bowl. Quote
machine gun kelly Posted August 18 Posted August 18 I’m not showing an opinion about him, but the reality is the proposed starter looks terrible and is always hurt. Hamlin knows the system so he may keep his spot as a backup out of necessity. I don’t like it, but at least Beane tried to strike on Bishop, but overestimated his ability. Quote
dorquemada Posted August 18 Posted August 18 It would seem that we'll be an all D draft next year too, we'll need a couple safeties and probably some more DL. At what point does this become success limiting? Quote
Steptide Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Cutting Hamlin saves nothing against the cap. He's good depth, but not a starter. He has 1 year left on his deal. Keep him as a backup. But yes, the safety position is definitely looking bleek 1 Quote

However, Hamlin was once again taking terrible angles, out of position, and sllllllow. He isnt showing any improvement in his game. He is what he is at this point. You would hope with his starting experience that he would of been someone to stand out amongst a group of rookies and backups, but he just proved once again that he's nothing more than a backup. 1 Quote

FormerLV-BILLS Posted August 18 Posted August 18 1 hour ago, Captain Hindsight said: If you take away the teams best player, they will probably suck Usually true. However, the Ravens are loaded. They most likely wouldn't suck without Lamar. But they obviously woudn't be as good. Same with the Eagles. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't suck. The Lions probably wouldn't suck without their best player. Hell, they were missing about 10 of them last year, and didn't suck. The Bills.........well...........who the hell would they have left? Without Allen, who the hell would they have left on either side of the ball? There are no other superstars on this team. Not even close to a second one. On offense, who would make a play without Allen out there? On defense, we already know they can't stop good QB's. Imagine if they were on the field more, because the Bills didn't have Allen. Eight years of this regime. One star player. A couple of nice players. The rest (probably 80% of the starters) are interchangeable, mediocre, players. Again, if any of the WR's get hurt, is it really a big deal? We kind of miss Shakir, but they are almost all interchangeable. 1 Quote
