Yeah. WR bubble screens are the only thing they've been able to execute from a screen perspective in the past couple seasons.

With the movement skills of some of our o-linemen and Cook's ability in space, RB screens should be a lethal part of our offense.

Brady started figuring out the RB screen game better late in the year last year...we were mind-numbingly awful at them for a long time, and I had no idea why, because we seemingly had all the pieces in place to be tremendously effective.

The one against the Rams that Ty Johnson took untouched for like 45 yards and a TD was a masterpiece. Need to keep improving in this area of the offense to make things even harder to defend against than they already are, which is virtually Mission Impossible as it is.

Love it.  Now we’re supposed to worry about another hold out in 2-3 years!

You be you, Bills fans!

I never said we should worry about a hold out 2-3 years from now.  I was just giving an opinion.  Go Bills!

Wasn't trying to answer it - my statement is pretty obvious.  Why is this all being directed at Cook?  All of those other guys signed extensions, but only Cook's negatively effects being able to sign guys?  Doesn't make sense

Because Cook is the last one signed.   Imagine the vitriol if #50 was the guy that just signed!  With his contract.  Yeah.  Imagine that

4 years 48 million. 30 million guaranteed

Hopefully come playoff time, they don’t abandon the run which had worked for them the entire year. With all that money tied up, they better run Cook into the ground (not literally.) Keep Josh Allen’s jersey just a little bit cleaner.

Sure.

James Cook is not particularly a threat in the passing game. He's pretty good there, but he's not great.

Case in point: He is not the team's 3rd down back. Running backs that are true threats in the passing game don't tend to get taken off the field on 3rd downs.

If a running back isn't a bellcow and doesn't have major pass catching chops, I prefer not to pay them big money.

I don't particularly care to relitigate the issue any further than that, as I've said my piece plenty over the past few months on this forum.

Go Bills.

Ummm - he get's taken off the field on 3rd downs because he isn't as good of a blocker compared to Ty Johnson. You need a good blocker on 3rd down. Ty slips out into the open on broken plays and excels at finding space - but the main goal is blocking - or pounding it up the middle which TY is better at.

Ty caught a pass on third down 13% of all Bills third downs last season. That's not a lot at all. Why you say?!? Because he's in there to BLOCK.

Really? You know this for a fact? Then why bother with the season?

🤦‍♂️

Yes, I know it for a fact…But what else am I gonna do?

The Bills are still must see tv, even if they don’t win the Super Bowl. I’ve made my peace with it because watching Josh Allen is too special, and more than makes up for it.

If you want an explosive playmaker, is it better to spend $30 million a year on a receiver who gets 7 catches a game, or $18 million on an offensive lineman and $12 million on a running back with 16 carries and 4 catches?

Exactly

1) James Cook is a good football player, adds an explosive element to the Bills offense, and makes life easier for Josh Allen.

2) As a matter of team building philosophy, I don't love giving second contracts to running backs that have not consistently displayed bellcow ability and pass catching chops.

3) Giving Cook the most guaranteed money that a running back has gotten in five years is...significant.

4) I believe what likely happened is that the Bills said "look, we can't reach the $15million number you're asking for. But we can up the guarantees". It was a way to meet the agent in the middle, make the player happy, and end the drama.

5) Brandon Beane likely did not want to go into such a critical season -- with the Bills once again on the doorstep of reaching a Super Bowl -- with a disgruntled player on offense and any kind of funkiness in the locker room. His desire for stability and harmony likely contributed to his doing what, for him, is an atypical thing at the running back position.

All in all, while the guarantees are high and the move itself goes against my preferred roster building strategy, I'm happy the drama is over, happy for James Cook (players should always get the bag when they can!), and happy that the offensive core is essentially locked in for the next three seasons. Super Bowl contention should continue annually (health permitting), and that's a win for Beane and the Bills.

Big contracts to RB are not my fave either.... I like the term though 4 years... if he stays healthy and produces it will age well... if not well not so much... but on the surface it does seem fair market...

what i  like the most is the player is back, distraction has been avoided and we can move on with our TC and into the season...  and we can end the Cook speculation threads cause... well now we know...  and I think we all expected a contract in the 11-12mm range that seems to be the mark....  the 15-17mm thing was just ridiculous to me...

I like Ray and Ty but Jimmy gives them a gamebreaker element that those guys don't quite have yet. Cook's speed, vision, and ability to slice thru lanes is really good.

Ty is such an amazing receiver though. His Broncos playoff TD catch last year where he had to lift both his feet off the ground is one of the best catches ever. Let alone for a RB! Cook was supposed to be an unfair cheatcode in the passing game but so far that hasn't been true. Great RB though, for sure. But Ty will remain the main 3rd down back.

I have a Question..

From a Business Standpoint.. you think his Agent brought up the fact that he wants to be used more on third downs?

There is always more than just money in these agreements. Especially with players as talented as cook.

looking forward to reading thoughts on this.

If i was cook.. I would want a larger snap count to prove im the same person with 50 or so more snaps a year. And PROVE he can be that dog on 3rd down.
