Cooper announced his retirement.

that shouldn’t stop Beane from giving away another third round pick for him.  Everyone loved giving away a third round pick and probably would again if it was for a wr they have heard of.

who needs third round picks when you have ogunjobi, hoecht, Forrest etc.

Wish we had left Dane at home with Cooper.  In two drives I saw all I needed to see from Dane.  He got beat deep by a guy who ran a 4.75 40 yard dash and got run over on a 3 yard pass that turned into a big gain which is the epitome of what's wrong with this defense.

I’d rather bring back Gabe Davis. at least go get a guy that had good chemistry with Josh

Gabe actually didn’t have good chemistry with Josh, part of why we let him walk, that and being constantly injured, etc etc

White was really not that bad. He overplayed the cushion on that one route to Robinson but the other completions on him were exactly the kind of keep it in front of you and tackle corner play this scheme demands. I think the reaction to that one play is overboard.

Douglas was toast last year. I am confident we are better now.

Douglas was as good as Jackson, Jackson was as bad as Douglas, Jackson was never as good as we believed, or Douglas fell off terribly.

Using Jackson as the bottom of the depth chart barometer lets us know where Douglas would be since I believe that White is going to (if healthy) surprise people in 2025.

I think Ja'Marcus Ingram makes this roster based on my personal preference and belief that he can play well as a #4.

Hardy, Cordrington, Couch, Strong, Hancock make it quite an interesting mix.

Add in Cam Lewis's ability to backup in any of the 4 DB positions and we could see some interesting shake ups back there.

We already know one of our DL will be traded for a 6th. Maybe we see a DB as well

Cooper did not announce retirement. Its possible he doesn't want to play any longer. Offense was better when he was on the team.

Hopefully its a moot point and Samuel is healthy. I liked the projected top 5 of Palmer, Moore, Samuel, Coleman, and Shakir. I'm just worried as we have not heard much from Palmer and Samuel is hurt again.

Yes you are right.  I saw the ticker the other night that cooper had retired and apparently it was a fake account that created it which I didn’t know until right now.

he probably didn’t want to go to a camp.   I don’t think he adds a single thing to the team just like I didn’t think he did last year.  Giving up a 3rd round pick for him was a, “GOB’S voice”…huge mistake.

Cooper is washed and Tre is a placeholder. Even if Tre struggles the first month and it becomes obvious we need to make a change before Max is ready, I'd rather see someone like Ingram or Dorian Strong get a shot. Hell, even Te'Cory Couch looked ok out there yesterday. This is the one area where we can probably trust in McD to coach up some options after finally reinvesting in our DBs.

Both Samuel and Hairston are hurt.  Douglas is better than any back-up CB on the team now and for all we know is probably better than White.  Samuel was injured all last year.  Coleman looks better but so far we have not seen Palmer do much and Moore regressed when the pads went on.   Cooper made plays last year.  He played with a bad wrist injury. Sure seemed like the offense was better when he was on the team.  He made some nice difficult catches in the a few games but disappeared in the playoffs.

Maybe give it another week to see where Samuel and Hairston are in their recovery and hope that White looks better next week.

Flame away...

Let's see how the next couple weeks go. If things do not improve, then it's worth a thought

There are several guys in the secondary alone who absolutely suck and have hung around for years because they "know the system."

I think Tre was fine.  I also think he is a strong presence in the locker room and a mentor for these guys in the secondary and that is worth a lot more than just his play.  I thought he made good tackles for short gains on those that were completed but for the one decent gain he gave up.  Not exactly a liability.  The defense had issues getting effective pressure especially in containment of running lanes and outside contain.

Lets bring back every Bills player that ever played here and is still active, yeah thats the answer!

I hear Donte Whitner is available.

Why what's the point? Eve if we cut Samuel, Cooper is at best WR4 on this team. Most would have like to see us upgrade at WR1. We have young guys that can fill the WR 4 and 5 spots.

this is mcD's style.  Old slow experienced guys.

Douglas is looking for a big pay day.  He ain't coming here for veterans minimum which is all we can currently offer to anyone who will sign with the BIlls.

Samuel cannot be cut.  The cap hit will be too big for this year.  He could be traded, but no one is going to want an injured player at that price.

Shavers making the 53 is still difficult as Shenault had a very good game on special teams (KR) plus he made a nice 2-pt conversion.

The Bills have a big problem at WR....Keon has had a decent camp, Shakir is missing most of camp,  Palmer just came back from injury....Samuel is not to be seen anywhere in the building...Elijah Moore - not to be seen....The WR position is a mess and it is very unfair on Josh to take all that burden.

The reason it concerns me is it plays right into my fear that Tre isn't athletic enough to play the position anymore. In his prime he'd give up that cushion but he'd transition and close to make a play at the catch point. Unfortunately I don't think he has it in him to do that anymore... And if opposing offenses catch on they're going to pick on him on those exact routes.

But no the solution isn't to re-sign Rasul Douglas who is similarly washed up. The solution is to wait for Hairston to get back and try to get him up to speed ASAP. And pray that Benford stays healthy because if he goes down we are in contention for the worst secondary in the NFL.
