BillsPride12 Posted Monday at 01:05 PM Posted Monday at 01:05 PM There was an ambulance behind me on the ride into work this morning and this got me thinking about this question. Me personally have never had to and never really been close to being in any situations where I would. But I imagine for anybody that has had to there is probably an interesting(albeit probably sad and disturbing as well) story behind it. Quote
17islongenough Posted Monday at 01:18 PM Posted Monday at 01:18 PM I called when I was a kid because I thought my dad dad. He was just sleeping. The cops showed up and I was naked. But since then no. 1 Quote

Royale with Cheese Posted Monday at 01:56 PM Posted Monday at 01:56 PM (edited) Twice. Once because a DirecTV guy accidentally backed into a car in LA. The 4 guys got out of the car and beat the **** guy. I called 911 and told them they have to get here, gangstas are beating up this guy and I think they could kill him. 4 bald headed, tatted up guys beating up a Korean cable guy. They didn't kill him, they drove off and the cable guy got up and went into his van. LAPD never showed up. Another time because a guy was absolutely hammered drunk on the highway. He was swerving all over into multiple lanes at 75+ mph. He wasn't changing lanes, he was just drifting badly, then realized it, pulled hard to get back on track but it was multiple lanes each time. I don't know the result of that. Edited Monday at 02:08 PM by Royale with Cheese Quote

frostbitmic Posted Monday at 02:10 PM Posted Monday at 02:10 PM Many times, my alarm monitoring company made a number as well. I had a store for 30+ years, **** happens. Quote
ExiledInIllinois Posted Monday at 02:37 PM Posted Monday at 02:37 PM 311 here for non-emergency. Quote
PastaJoe Posted Monday at 03:27 PM Posted Monday at 03:27 PM I once saw a car fly off the road at high speed into a field. I stopped to check and it was a middle aged woman who was bleeding from the mouth and slurring her speech. I called 911, and then realized she was drunk as she took another drink from one of the many beer cans in the car. She said she just wanted to leave, put her car in reverse, gunned it, and got stuck in a ditch. Then the police arrived and took over. Quote
Augie Posted Monday at 03:34 PM Posted Monday at 03:34 PM I almost had to call once, around 5th grade. I was upstairs playing chess with a buddy, and I hear my sister screaming from down in the kitchen. I run downstairs to find she has started a grease fire trying to make popcorn. (This is before microwaves or Jiffy Pop, for the younger crowd.) The flames are leaping up, but I don’t panic. I run into the dining room and open the sliding glass door and use pot holders to carry this bucket of fire to the dining room and toss it into the back yard. Unfortunately, the screen door was still closed on the slider, and the fire just bounced right back at me and landed on the dining room carpet. OOPS! 😱 🔥 I opened the screen and kicked the pot-o-fire onto the back patio. The good news is it had landed on a remnant of carpet used to wipe our feet, so the doormat was ruined but the carpet was saved. 2 Quote
EmotionallyUnstable Posted Monday at 03:43 PM Posted Monday at 03:43 PM First in 3rd grade my dad fell off the second story roof. Broke both arms. Second, I thought my daughter swallowed a coin that was stuck in her throat. She said she did, so I panicked and it was stuck as she was being weird. X Ray proved not to trust a 3 year old. Quote
Ridgewaycynic2013 Posted Monday at 04:27 PM Posted Monday at 04:27 PM A few of us were going to call over a member cheating (by using Google) in the 'Name This Person' thread, but the dispatcher said it didn't qualify as a true emergency. 2 Quote

RkFast Posted Monday at 04:56 PM Posted Monday at 04:56 PM 911? All the time. Family heath issues and injuries, witnessing a dangerous driver on the parkway, fires, witness to criminal activity, car accidents, bike accidents, my chicken takeout was overcooked, etc. Quote
BuffaloBud Posted Monday at 05:15 PM Posted Monday at 05:15 PM First for electrical fire in the house about 330am. Fire department came and had the street lite up like mid-day. Second was for a car that ran off an exit ramp and rolled about 3 times. Quote

Golden*Wheels Posted Monday at 06:07 PM Posted Monday at 06:07 PM (edited) Called once for a car accident I was in. They asked if anyone was hurt, I said no, they said walk to the gas station and call the Troop. OK, makes sense. Years later, I drove by some drunk who spun out in the rain and ended up half in the corn/half on the road, he was ok but he was COCKED....called 911, explained the situation....the dispatcher legit asked (told, actually) me to "start directing traffic". She already had the location so that was a quick "are you *****in nuts"? and a hang up. Edited Monday at 06:07 PM by Golden*Wheels Quote
The Jokeman Posted Monday at 06:11 PM Posted Monday at 06:11 PM It was winter and these homeless guy was outside and you could see he needed to get somewhere arm I called 911 to help him out. The dispatcher was like it might take a few hours to get to him etc. Kind of sad really. I've been called by police officers responding to 911 calls for my parents (they're now both in assisted living) but prior it was a real fiasco. Last one I recall was mom locked herself in the bathroom and instead of pressing the life alert button at side of bathtub she opened window and screamed for the neighbors to call 911 to get her out. Needless to say that was step that lead to her getting to assisted living. Quote

She already had the location so that was a quick "are you *****in nuts"? and a hang up. I had to call when I heard a crash outside my front door once. A car was going too fast in front of the house where a small island divided the curvy road. It should be about 15 mph to be safe on that stretch in this residential area, but a teenage boy was going much faster. His front right tire went up a berm and his right headlight hit a palm tree. This flipped the car over and it skidded across the road and came to rest, upside down, on the mailbox of the people across the street. I got outside as the babysitter comes out with the portable phone to call the homeowners. The kid crawls out of the car window, takes the phone away from the babysitter and calls his mother. The first words I hear are “Mom, I did it again!” 😳 Really??? I noticed the front passenger window was open (on the upside down car) on a chilly night. That wasn’t right, so I pieced it together. He was driving along the tricky stretch when he lowered the passenger window to toss a couple empty Budweiser bottles into my front yard. THAT is when he hit the berm and flipped. I didn’t rat him out when the cops arrived (I was slow to put it together), but part of me worries that he needed to face the music lest he do it yet again, and maybe somebody gets hurt. 1 Quote
